Me either. Got the blu-ray as a Christmas gift years ago and finally decided to watch it last year or so for the first time all the way through and I thought there was a few funny moments but wasn't all that impressed.

I'm not really a big Will Ferrell fan though. Anchorman, the same thing.

makes me laugh how people complain how some scenes don't hold up well in todays society.. like American pie etc, but that's the point... at the time.. that's what stupid kids/people did... it's only now in this era that everyone make themselves out to be perfect and cancel others quicker than a refresh icon.

People make mistakes, genuine naive mistakes, girls, boys, white, brown, whatever... it's a lesson in life. That's why you watch it and cringe... as you did then, as you would now...

Horror movies do all kinds of weird, depraved ****, does that mean they don't hold up now..

The first two Austin Powers movies are great. I still laugh at them to this day. Goldmember has its moments, I especially liked the movie within a movie with the likes of Tom Cruise, Danny Devito, John Travolta, etc. and I loved Michael Caine. But some of the jokes just felt flat and/or repetitive. And Beyoncé was terribly miscast, she can’t act for s***

Comedy is maybe the one genre I won't listen to critics or friends because it really does come down to taste in what we find funny. Broad, subtle, physical, intellectual. I can laugh at Annie Hall and Dumb & Dumber the exact same but I see why people who like one might not like the other.

That didn't even hold up in 2001. That terrible CGI was dead on arrival.

Yeah but the third one recycled a bunch of the same jokes as the second one too. Mini-Austin, Dr. Evil performing a song with Mini-Me, people reacting to the suggestive rocketship, etc.

Me, I've never been especially impressed with the "But we all did stupid stuff" defense. Just because 'you' did something in your past doesn't mean its okay. It could be wrong now, *and also was wrong then, too*. It just means that. . . stuff you did in the past was actually wrong.

Maybe instead of excusing it in others as a way to avoid any feelings of guilt in themselves, they should just admit "Hey, maybe I am not a perfect saint, and should perhaps encourage others to be better people than I was at that age".

Maybe I am a prude but I think the way Rosamund Pike's character is treated in Jack Reacher seems ...questionable, especially in the post-#MeToo age. The way McQuarrie focuses on her cleavage and lights her face was very distracting and male gaze-y.

Yep. It's about recognizing that such actions were wrong, taking responsibility for them, and working to prevent them from repeating themselves. And that's the point that posters like Vaibow or the "This Work Of Obvious Satire Couldn't Be Made Today" crowd don't seem to get. (Or the Netflix execs who nixxed the D&D episode of Community). This isn't about movies portraying people making bad choices. This is about movies that made bad choices themselves and instead of acknowledging and commenting on those choices and why they're wrong (Racism in Blazing Saddles, Blackface in Tropic Thunder, Objectification in Superbad, etc...) they are presented and promoted as fine and funny. For example - Invasion of privacy and straight up rape in Revenge of the Nerds or actual blackface/yellowface/etc in movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's.

This also doesn't mean that movies that haven't aged well due to certain elements are without artistic merit. But they need to be examined critically and contextually without painting over their problems.

isn't that what I was saying... like, it was stupid, it was wrong, but we knew it was wrong and that's the awkward humour? like, laughing at them, not with them and also realize that like, its a movie and no animals or feelings were hurt in the making of.

We're talking about movies that didn't age well because they made creative choices or portrayed scenarios/characters in inappropriate/inaccurate/harmful ways. Additional examples: Gone With The Wind, Dumbo, Peter Pan...
