Hopefully we all know what hipsters are. I was just brainstorming a list of movies that they love, and of course, this is a generalization / stereotype, and is only meant to be for fun. Anybody can obviously love these movies, and I particularly love quite a few of them. But damn, if I haven't seen hipsters mention these movies all the time. Feel free to add more:

Garden State
The Big Lebowski
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Juno
Little Miss Sunshine
500 Days of Summer
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Sweeney Todd
Requiem for a Dream
Fargo
Alice in Wonderland

The Royal Tenenbaums
The Nightmare Before Christmas

a lot of these are movies that are liked by a lot of people like. Many of these are quite popular, which by their nature, Hipsters would reject. I don't see the point of this thread.

also do you just hold that anything that Charlie Kaufman writes is Hipster-bait?

true but he did nail it on a lot of them but forgot Rules of Attraction.

I feel that the word hipster has nearly become meaningless. It's an undefined term that can fit the description of some many different things that may be slightly odd or quirky.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World mostly makes fun of hipsters doesn't it?

I was expecting Wes Anderson and close thread.

Anything by Spike Jones.

The end.

ETA: Who would have known that hipsters like good movies?

I am not quite sure what the definiftion of hipster is, but going with my own definition, I guess I would say a hipster probably does not consider himself a hipster, and probably thinks that he *genuinely* likes all of these movies, while thinking that all the other people who have seen them and talk about them are only saying that to look hip. You've seen these movies right?

Yeah, as the wisdom of Nubs once said:

'A term for *****ebags to throw around to make fun of other *****ebags, while somehow thinking they aren't *****ebags by doing so.*'

Napoleon Dynamite, that piece of ****.

It certainly is a never ending cycle. There is a big word for that, tandemic.

my definition of a hipster has always been someone who likes something for the "cool points" it'd garner them for liking it, and not because they necessarily have any genuine liking for said thing. as soon as its not considered cool to like it anymore, they would easily change their opinion on it....once again, for the cool points.

its plastic passion....

Sofia Coppola's movies.

I guess people staring out a window for 5 minutes is art.

Most of the ppl who hate hispsters are hipsters. They just don't know it.

If loving 96% of those movies makes me a hipster then I will gladly be a hat wearing hipster.

Seriously they all wear hats.

Agreed about Wes Anderson. I would also add this...

I think 'hipster' is a mainstream indie kid: it's more about style and partying. But as a word, it has trendsended into regular culture. To give yourself a title is...childish me thinks.

With me, while I kinda fall into that scene but yeah, me and friends can agree that they can be pretentious at times. But whatever. Hipster chicks are hot.

Think about this: It's like how the 80s popularized punk. And kids dressed up punk/new wave to the point it became the norm and just became a 'style'.
