Sometimes you watch a movie and for whatever reason it just doesnt resonate with you and then...you watch it again...and something just clicks. What movies have you guys watched, hated and then given it another shot and fell in love with?

Or the opposite. Maybe there were movies you loved once then rewatched it and thought "this really isnt as good as I remember..." What movies have had you change your opinion about them upon rewatches?

Most recently Manchester by the Sea and the Accountant. I really uninspired by both when I saw them in theaters, but I ended up watching them again on DVD and enjoyed them both more the 2nd time (in the case of The Accountant, I enjoyed it way more)

Waterworld (I know) was a huge one that I loved as a kid and when I watched it again as an adult I was so embarrassed because GD that movie is trash.

Recent memory. Fell in love with these on rewatch:
-Cloud Atlas (I fell in love with the scope and atmosphere of the film, feels inspiring);
-Guardians of the Galaxy (I wasn't really prepared to it's tone initially);
-Ex Machina (initially it felt like something I saw a dozen times before, but I love it's haunting atmosphere and characters).

Thought much less of them on rewatch:
-Star Wars - Episode VII: The Force Awakens (hype is a bad thing, after thinking it through I realized it's a mediocre film, saved by feel good energy and likable cast);
-Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (endless debates exposed it's flaws more glaringly).

A few titles that didn't hold for me since the time I watched them as a kid/teen:
-Robocop 2 (not nearly as bad as critics make it look, pretty enjoyable, but still pretty far behind the original);
-Van Damme flicks (except for Street Fighter).

No Country for Old Men
Slumdog Millionaire
Mad Max: Fury Road

first time I watched them, did not like them. Second time Love them. All three are my favorites now.

Fargo. I really did not like that movie when I first saw it as a young teen. I appreciate it a lot more now as an adult.

It's pretty rare for me but has happened a few times.

Disliked The Graduate and Jurassic Park the first time I watched them in 2005, liked them a lot about eight years later.

The Incredibles after 9 years went from great to just good.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
improved a lot, from lower-average to second-best of the series, on a later rewatch.

Man of Steel... I thought it was pretty well done, but after rewatching a year or two later, it's kinda unwatchable.

I'm the same, with MOS, i walked out the cinema feeling empty, so watched it a week later and loved it, left it a year and turned off after 10 mins, fast forward to the smallville fight then lost interest.

I felt like the movie was a two hour trailer for this amazing trilogy.

Bladerunner for me. Watched it on Netflix one day. Hated it. A few years went by. Gave it another shot. Liked it a little better but still very lukewarm. I gave it one last try the week BR 2049 came out and loved it. It just clicked for me. And now I'm eager to rewatch it again.

I feel the same!

When I was a teen this was possibly my very favorite movie for at least a year or two. The "problem" might be that it is a fundamentally depressing and stressful movie at it's core, making it difficult to watch over and over again. It wears you out.

Guardians 2 - kinda hated this film the movie when I first saw it. Now think it is decent, but definitely fails to live up to the original.

The Force Awakens - Loved it, but a few watches on and...the shallowness of the characters and the general "everything again but worse" has led me to feeling that this is possibly the most offensive movie I can think of. Certainly the biggest missed oppurtunity in film ever.

Age of Ultron - didn't quite think it was bad, but now I see it as having some of the best scenes in the MCU so far.

Actually, The Incredibles initially didn't really impress me all that much. I didn't think it was bad or anything, just boring. I gave it another shot a few years later and it became one of my favorite superhero movies. For some reason I feel it gets more interesting as you grow older.

Guardians 2 left me kinda lukewarm on the first watch in a theater, but I rewatched it later at home and it felt better. Not dramatically, but I placed it in the better half of MCU films.

Opposite for me. On my initial viewing I was disappointed, but I really grew to appreciate it later on.

Man of Steel was never watchable for me. I really wanted to like it and to see genius of Snyder in it, but it's unwatchable indeed. With rare exceptions.

For me the main problem with The Incredibles was mostly that Mr. Incredible became less likeable and a lot of the writing to try to make you like him seemed more and more contrived.

The animation, the voice acting still really good but the story feels too self-congratulatory.

Even though I still like it a lot, I'm not as in love with The Force Awakens as I was when I first saw it.

Same here. First time I saw the movie I was so bored I never even finished it. A few years later I decided to give it another chance and it turned out to be great film.

I didn't like On Her Majesty's Secret Service the first I watched it. It was just too different and Lazenby was the weakest Bond (that much is still true), but I've grown to appreciate it far more over the years. Until Casino Royale it was odd in that it was a Bond film that was basically a romance and had a downer ending. These days I see it as the film with maybe the best Bond girl ever in Diana Rigg. All these decades later she was still fantastic on Game of Thrones too. One of the my favorite characters on that show.

The other way is the first Bay Transformers film. As someone who grew up with Transformers in the 80s, I really enjoyed seeing all of that robot fighting action on-screen in the the theater. It did not hold up at all on second viewing. So much so that I still haven't seen any of the sequels.

The Dark Knight Rises. Some seriously eye rolling **** in that film, but I can't say upon subsequent viewings that it doesn't have a heart, even if it's far from Nolan's best work.

The newest one I can think of is war of the apes. I loved dawn and liked rise a lot and was really excited for war. When I first saw war I liked it but kind of felt let down and felt like the 2/3 part of the movie was slow and kind of boring. After seeing it a 2nd time I loved it and didn't fell let down at all or like it was slow. I think the problem was that from the trailers and the titled being war I was expecting a lot more action from the movie. Because of the miss marketing I think I was expecting a different type of movie. So after seeing it a 2nd time and knowing what to expect I think the lack of action didn't bother me and the movies story and soundtrack is so good.

Star war TFA when I first saw it I liked it but kind of felt let down and kind of felt like I may have liked episode 3-6 more and felt like it was to much like episode 4. After watching it a 2nd time I had like a complete 180 it is now my 2nd favorite behind only episode 6 and I think 8 could end up being the best star wars movie ever. When I saw it a 2nd time it didn't fell like episode 4 any more and the movie just has so many great things about it and few flaws and the few it does have are small. I am not sure why things changed so much. No it wasn't because of a lot of hype or any thing going into it. In fact I had little hype going into this movie. Yes I know star wars but after hating episodes 1-2 and likening but not loving 3 my hype for star wars was almost died to the point where if 7 had not been good I would have been done with star wars. Also episodes 1-3 all looked great from trailers so even though 7 looked good from trailers I still figured it would suck. Also not having yoda, empire, vader I was expecting a star wars movie with out them to suck years and years before TFA even came out once the rumors of a new star wars movie started to pick up more and more before TFA became a thing.

Spider-Man 3 I never hated this movie like some people in fact I like it over all but yes I was disappointed from day 1 has it was not even close to has good has 2 even though it looked like it would be better then 2. But when I first saw it I liked it more then 1. Now having watched the movie a lot of times I think it is by far the weakest Spider-Man movie yet and its a kind of movie where the flaws stand out more and more the more you watch it.
