What's up boys and girls, perhaps some of you have missed my pressense on these boards but alas I'm at college now, and you find yourself spending most of your time hanging out with various people and all the other time reading. So when the only times I use the internets is at work. So my time around here will be sparse and this will probably be the only thread I post in, unless Sandman's thread is still active, I got post in there, sorry sandman :(... In any case this is not a general/broad thread for all movies but simply those that could possibly be up for Oscars this year. Now due to my limited time, I ask people to edit there orignal posts with there various reviews/etc.

Hollywoodland
Directed by Allen Coulter
Rating: 8/10

Possible Nominations:
Best Supporting Actor: Ben Affleck
Best Actor: Adrian Brody
Best Actress: Diane Lane
Best Cinematography: Jonathan Freeman
Best Picture

Those are the 5 noms I'd give it, things like sound-editing, costumes, I simply not well versed enough to give an opinion. Ben Affleck performance was truely great, because he never hammed it up, he wasn't scene stealing, he played his part subdued, and at that climatic scene with Diane Lane it was truely great when he let it all out. Brody gave a great performance, I felt his pain, and the scenes with his kid were heart-felt. The cinematography real fit the movie, the use of older film stock, the noir like inspiration, it all really came together. Now I give it best picture instead of best director because direction is where it really lacked. This movie runs on the strength of it's actors and cinematography rather than story/direction, because the movie falls a bit flat at times but hte acting + cinematography was great.

The Departed hasnt come out yet, but really id like to see Scorcese get a pity Oscar at this point.

As would I but the Departed seems to be more of a fun movie after a series of really deep and great movies (Aviator and Gangs of New York). I don't see the Oscars biting, though I haven't seen one clear contender for best director this year...

if the Oscar bought Training Day, surely they can buy The Departed...

HollywoodLand won't be nominated for best picture,it's not Best Pic material..Maybe Affleck best actor nomination.

The Departed IMOis a shoe-in. So what if it looks like a fun movie? I myself consider Goodfellas a very fun and enjoyable movie, but it doesn't take away from its more artistically substantial elements at all.

The Prestige IMO might get a few visual nominations, and I think Bale should get a pity nomination, just because he's Bale, and he's a badass.

The Good Shepherd seems like a lock as well, great cast (a good half of which are no strangers to the Golden Statuette) and De Niro directing.

All I can think of for now.

Agreed. It's about god damn time he got some kind of recognition.

Here are some of my Oscar Nominations but not in stone

Bobby
DreamGirls
United 93
Flags Of Our Fathers
Apocalypto (if the AMPAS can forgive Gibson)

The Departed might not get nominated since it's a remake of "Internal Affairs" from Hong Kong.
