Hi.

Was wondering if you have any views on this? Does it really work? Are any of you guys members of a MLM company and what are your thoughts on it?

In partaking this discussion, please be mindful that I am not talking about those pyramid schemes which are different from MLMs, contrary to popular belief.

One example of a Multi-Level Marketing company that has produced successful entrepeneurs by the shiploads is Network 21.

What do you think?

To quote Bill Hicks - 'If anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourselves.'

But what is business without advertising or marketing? Those are essential business tools.

I create banners, flyers, and such for bands, promoters, etc. Does that count as advertising?

I do Marketing/PR (just started) and it drives the way a product or service is sold, people have such a silly sterotypical image of it because of the monotomy of corporate america's saturation to things but it is needed obviously.
As far as MLM goes, I always looked at it as franchising out which makes sense if your product or service has that appeal to it. Obviously it's very sales driven and it does have difficulty shaking off the percieved image of being a pyramid plan.

Well since you put it that way.....

Instead of Marketing and Advertising, you could try actually working for a living.

Meh, was just making an off the cuff comment.

I agree, advertising is necessary for any business to compete effectively, I just feel that the way that advertising and marketing as tools have permeated society to the extent that it has, has subsequently saturated our senses to the point that we become numbed to it. Advertisers are then forced to identify and exploit 'new', 'shocking', or 'hip' market niches.

Half the time, what is advertised is rarely what one gets. And most people seem to accept that as a given!

Situation: You buy 'x' product and complain when it doesn't so what was claimed. A friend looks at you in surprise, and exclaims 'Well what'd you expect??'

Well it depends on the sector and industry...

Advertising = just another medium to convince a client or an individual for the company's interest.

Marketing = can't really define that one in an appropriate sentence.

Actually, MLM is a bad case of business where small fish pays thousand bucks for membership and only receive tiredness and mostly nothing and the big fish gets the percentage of cash for their own. In my opinion, I strongly disagree the system of MLM based on demography and psychography in some countries due economic purposes. But it all depends on an individual itself on getting the job done. That's what I think from my own state of mind.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, coz we all learning something everyday ;)

Marketing in one sentence would be like, "the aspects of business regarding the actual sale of a product"

The four Ps: price, product, place, promotion.

MLM schemes work GREAT....as long as you're in the upper levels of them. Most things that MLM (which is really just a restructured pyramid scheme, to be honest) business market, be it services or products, have a certain saturation point at which it becomes harder and harder to make money selling the actual product or service. And, most of the great ideas have already been taken, so most MLM's are fairly well established. Which means your place in the MLM food chain is going to be somewhere around plankton or brine shrimp. You're better off pursing some of the more proven internet driven businesses (also not all they're cracked up to be) than you are getting involved in MLM.

At any rate, if you REALLY want to make good extra coinage, study up on real estate speculation and investment. If you know what you're doing, you can do quite well for yourself in that arena (I'm currently educating myself on it at the moment with investment in mind).

Yup, that does count as advertising. Also known as "Below The Line Advertising."

I, realistically, probably only know...mmm, a....thousand people?
I don't know....

But I know 2 families that were destroyed by their faith in Amway, 4 families that bought in and got out before it was too late, and one family that prospered.

That's what I'll say.

DM, if I read your signature backwards it says "Ay, Ahab, sukit!". Not very nice, my friend.

MLM was invented by P. T. Barnum. There's a sucker born every minute.
