Considering these characters are human like everyone else, with the exception of that extra X-gene, do you think that with age, their mutations would diminish. Considering most mutants manifest their abilities during a heightened period in their lives, mostly at puberty, is it conceivable that they could lose these abilities during other natural occurring events, such as menopause, or other mentally debilitating diseases, like Alzheimer’s or something along that line. Although Alzheimer’s is mostly the ability to recall information, I’m sure this could play a major turning point in their ability to connect with their powers. That, or any other mental disease associated with old age.

Marvel writes futuristic versions of our favorite characters, but I don’t think they realistically portray them in humanistic situations and how the diseases associated with old age may play in altering their mutations.

What are your (educated) thoughts?

Why wouldn't they? With age, all facilities diminish. Strength, mental accuity, sensory perception, immune system efficiency, etc. etc.

Hmmm...whats who's the oldest mutant now?

I think a mutant's power(s) would diminish, if their body can age.

Some people think Wolverine is exempt from this theory, but if he started off as a baby, then to a child, then teenager, to an adult... That means he can age. Although he can age slower than most people.... He still ages.

Plus, with everything he's endured over the years, I would think he would be the one to suffer from a degenerate disorder the most, only because there has to be a point where his body's constant damage and regenerating would eventually catch up to him.

What do you mean catch up to him?

Wouldn't he just have to just be more careful, as his ability to heal ebbs? I say that with doubt, seeing has some characters might have developed powers that allow them to say at a certain bodily age forever. Like Iceman for example. And Wolverine might as well fit in there too jugding from his miraculous feats of survival. That's one hell of a healing power, or immortality.

The only way I see Iceman living forever, is if he stays in his ice form forever. He could constantly regererate from any form of water. As for Wolverine, I see his healing factor going haywire as he ages, kind of like the frog on the nanomeds in the Hulk movie.

Strangely, Wolverine's healing factor seems to be getting stronger as he ages. During the first Claremont run on Uncanny, there were several times when Wolvie was seriously injured & took a good long while to recover fully. Nowadays it seems he can be blasted to a skeleton & regenerate immediately! Or so I hear.

Magneto is in his 80s. Weren't his powers teetering out before Wanda put the wammy on him? A younger Magneto wouldn't have let a single sentinel come in that close to Genosha, let alone let the whole island get trashed.

I don't know about Destiny, though. She lived to be well over 100, and her powers never showed any signs of getting weaker. Same for Mystique.

Chronlogically, he's in the 70-80 range; but remember he was regressed to a 6 month old by Mutant Alpha, then restored to adulthood by Davan Shakari (a Shi'ar agent). In Uncanny 200 they said that he was biologically in his early thirties. If we knew how long ago that was in Marvel time, we could figure out his current physical age.
Also, when the sentinels attacked Genosha he was recovering from Wolverine almost killing him in the wretched Eve of Destruction storyline. BUT GENOSHA HAD A FLIPPIN' ARMY!! They shouldn't have been wiped out so quickly & easily.

It's not gossip, Wolverine(and his pants) can survive an atomic bomb and he can revive within 2 minutes of being a skeleton with no organs, no brain, nothing. Apparently immortality is gauged by issus sold. Or so I hear. :oldrazz:

Wolverine #42 is the revival from skeleton. I'm not sure what issue of what title you can find the atomic bomb one. I saw it in a scan.

I mean who is he/she. not the egyptian goddess?

Oh, you mean my illegitimate typo. That should be "issue". :oldrazz:

Also, the Egyptian goddess' name is Isis.

Gotta love those unstable molecules! :woot:

I dont think they'd lose their powers, but their power levels would decrease. I think Magneto is the best example. In recent years, he's been shown to not be as powerful as he once was. I think this was best depicted in the series Dark Seduction and/or Maneto Rex

The problem with using Magneto as an example is that he's not physically old. In UXM 200 they said he was biologically in his early 30's. Now in real time that story took place about 20 years ago, but in Marvel time...?

As for his weakness after the Magneto War storyline, my personal theory is that he just stressed his power so much it sort of temporarily burnt out. Like straining a muscle, or breaking a bone--you can't use it until it heals properly.
