I remember hearing that in the original script of 2002's Spider-Man, Mysterio was the main villain. I would not be surprised if Bruce Campbell did not play Quentin Beck at all because frankly I'm not sure what to think of this. But the source it came from is shaping up to be very unreliable.

Personally I hope they have a cameo of Quentin Beck to set up for a future movie. Mysterio was one of the better classic villians. He impersonated Spiderman for weeks getting him accused of all kinds of crimes and then presented himself as the new hero in town to defeat spidey. He is a master of robotics and special effects and can convince his opponenets that he is doing things that he really isnt.

If they followed the classic Spiderman story, it would start with Spiderman foiling a fake alien invasion that was used to cover a bank robbery and one of the aliens (Beck) making his escape. Beck would then swear revenge on this man (that he actually named in the first movie) and use his talents to discredit him by commiting crimes AS Spiderman (and keeping the money for himself of course.) until he presents himself as the answer to everyones spider problem and takes on the job of "hero"

It could be a wild ride if done right. It could also tie in well to Kraven the Hunter, the Lizard, and Man-Wolf for another free for all Spidey Flick. It could be done.

Carnage is the one with a lame story. He's just a goon who got some powers and uses them for sheer chaos. No background needed, he's just a bulldozer type of character who does stuff. At least venom has a reason to hate and do what he does. Carnage may look cool, but he's not a great character for a movie, he will come off as a resident evil knock off with a few good one liners.

marvel newsletter reports this week that mysterio is back, in the comics that is. friendly neighborhood spiderman #11. below are links to mysterio's bio and the cover of fns #11. some pretty good artwork of mysterio.

BUT!!! more importantly, the bio details a connection between mysterio and the burglar that killed uncle ben. below is the excerpt about it from the bio. could it be that raimi will use mysterio as the 4th villain in connection with the burglar and sandman??? maybe marvel is timing the fns #11 mysterio story to coincide with comic-con. some food for thought.

"Later, Beck assumed the identity of Doctor Rinehart and ran his scam at the Restwell Nursing Home on Long Island. He amassed eight million dollars in three years but ran afoul of the Burglar who had killed Peter's Uncle Ben. The Burglar had broken into the Parker home years before in search of a treasure hidden in the 1930s by the gangster Dutch Mallone and now sought more information from Aunt May who was a resident of the nursing home. The Burglar held "Rinehart" prisoner, inducing the "Doctor" to help. Beck figured he could dispose of the Burglar once he learned the treasure's location so he faked May's death from a heart attack to allow the Burglar to take her from the nursing home without Peter knowing. Spider-Man, however, recognized Beck and confronted him after battling numerous illusions. Eventually, Beck escaped to work on other, safer scams, among them a scheme to undermine Spider-Man's confidence by making him the cause of an innocent bystander's death."

In astonishing spider-man at the moment in the UK Brock has cancer and has 6 months to live so hes selling his symbiote suit, it could be tying in with the movie. Don't know who buys the suit yet
