anyone think that maybe Beck is just pretending to be an undead creature from hell to have an edge against everyone else? I mean, it sounds so much like something Beck would do.

Definately Beck. The originals are irreplacable. If their character is watery then give it substance, develop it into something different and daring then, presto, you get a better and more versatile character without changing character figures.
