N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton

to say this least, compared to other biopics for me, this is one that has a timelessness sort of feel to it, if it doesn't make film of the year that would surprise me to say the least.

I want to do a full review on this movie a little later, watched this movie with my sister(who is barely interested in rappers and rap) and my little brother and the both thoroughly enjoyed the film. After seeing this we went to see Man from U.N.C.L.E. which was alright, but didn't leave as lasting affect. Half of those songs, especially that Ron Ayers song from the Dr.Dre intro is going into my playlist.

I've had 'No Vaseline' on repeat ever since I saw the movie...what a great track.

No Vaseline, Cube basically won that beef with that track I mean honestly did you even see any of the NWA members diss Cube after that

Yep...Dre dissed him on F*** With Dre Day.

But No Vaseline was a perfect diss track though

Heh, well I wasn't disputing whether Cube won the battle or not...just answering your question.

Always bump No Vaseline whenever I go to work because it is literally stuck in my head but in all seriousness though I wouldn't be surprised if Straight Outta Compton gets Oscar buzz during Oscar season

Indeed. The look on their faces while listening to the track...priceless. :woot:

That was what made the scene. The chicks were laughing their asses off and the dudes were just feeling salty as hell.

Where? I remember them singling out Tim Dog, Luke Campbell and Eazy E, but I don't remember anyone dissing Cube.

"Then we gon' creep to South Central/
on a street knowledge mission as I steps in the temple/
spot him got him as I pulls out my strap/
got my chrome to the side of his White Sox hat/
you try to check my homie, you better check yourself/
cuz when you diss Dre you diss yourself/
mother f[BLACKOUT]*bleep*[/BLACKOUT]er!"

Cube is from South Central LA. The temple line is referring to Cube's muslim leanings (at that time anyway). Cube's label/company at the time was called Street Knowledge. One of Cube's hit songs was Check Yo'self.

It'd be sweet if O'shea got a nom. I think he deserves it. Jason Mitchell too!

Ahhhh....all this time I thought he was talking about Eazy. But, then again, I never got the Street Knowledge and Check Yourself references in those bars before. Went right over my head.

I liked Real Compton City G's that Eazy did, there was some good lines. "All of a sudden Dr. Dre is the G thang, but on his old album covers he was a she-thang".

If they dont get the music rights then they shouldnt do it

I think they that with that Jimi Hendrix biopic a few years back. Dont think it turned out well

Yeah, true. I don't need a scene in your face that Eazy feels betrayed with the diss track with him listening to it in the car there. But if I remember correctly, he was kind of smiling in that scene, right? For some reason my mind is blank on that scene exactly but I remember him giving looks around like he was proud of Dre, I think I remember some sadness too but I'm not sure.

And with how Jason Mitchell was able to convey all of those emotions with no words, just facial expressions, is why he should get nominated and possibly win and oscar. He was just too good!

That one came out last year to a limited release. Personally, I enjoyed it a lot but it definitely suffered from not having Jimi Hendrix's music. Disappointing since it has a solid cast and crew behind it. Even if the subject's personal life outside their passion piques enough interest for a two-hour film, it's hard to pull it off successfully if you're missing that passion.

Jason Mitchell for Best Actor as far as his portrayal of Eazy E he should get nominated for an Oscar but knowing the Academy I am sure they won't nominate Straight Outta Compton as a picture or even the performances from some of the actors like Jason Mitchell or even O'Shea Jackson, Jr. Ice Cube's son who in my opinion was perfect as his father and should be nominated but knowing the Academy I am sure they won't even take it into consideration

I mean I to think Mitchell should be nominated but it's very early in the year. My stance on that can change. Getting a nod has a lot to do with competition

We still have Leo in Revenant, Depp in Black Mass, Redmayne in Danish Girl, Cranston in Trumbo, and more to consider. The competition is potentially pretty stiff.

If Mitchell doesnt get nominated it wont take away how good he was or how great the movie was.

Suge Knight was one of the best villains I've seen in a movie this year.

The opening crack house bust scene reminded me of season 1 True Detective when Rust went to the hood.

It crazy that the LAPD really did use a bloody tank on drug busts. The military grade stuff American police have access to is insane.
Indeed. The look on their faces while listening to the track...priceless. :woot:

I like how DJ Yella in the movie and real life was like "he got us good" :woot:

Yella seemed the most chill dude out of all of them.

This is looking like it's going to top Mad Max: Fury Road and San Andreas by the end of next weekend domestically. Astounding for like this. Congrats SOC!
