N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton

To be fair, the Golden Globes are more global-centric than the Oscars, which are more American-focused. Certain themes like police brutality aren't going to seem as influential in other "white" nations.

It's for the same reason the film killed it domestically but did no different than other biopics in the foreign BO.

People in society with no knowledge of NWA are not people I wish to associate with. :o

Hopefully members of the cast will get to present at these movie award shows in the coming months.

Eh, not really. The hollyweird foreign press (the group behind the globes) just report about American entertainment for foreign markets, but the vast majority of the awards go to American films & tv shows.

I don't think police brutality is just an American issue, plus it's not like the movie is a documentary on police brutality...that's just one element.

The hollywood foreign press is notoriously corrupt and have been known to accept bribes for nods.

Either way they are out of touch and this genre of film would be ignored by then.

The filming of Tupac's movie has started. The guy from Notorious is playing Biggie in the movie.

I don't know looks kinda bootleg

Also it's being directed by former music video director Benny Boom, I highly doubt this will have the appeal or acclaim that Straight Outta Compton got.

Probably more like another Notorious sadly.

Oh it not going to come anywhere near what 'Straight Outta Compton' accomplished from either a critical OR financial standpoint.

Frankly, I think this looks like a joke...

Meh. The dude who played Biggie in Notorious wasn't great. Nowhere near the talent/doppelgangers SOC got. Seems like a cash grab after the popularity of SOC, which is a shame.

No not a cash grab they either had to make the movie or lose the rights to Tupac's story. Personally as a long time Tupac fan who actually got the chance to see him perform a few times I'm really disappointed about this movie and wish the studio didn't chase John Singleton away from the project.

I guess it's not shocking this didn't get an Oscar best picture nom but looking at the 8 films that were, this could and arguably should have been up-there.

understand this about the golden globes:
The association was founded in 1943,[2] by Los Angeles-based foreign journalists that wanted a more organized distributing process of cinema news to non-US markets

In 1943 a group of writers banded together to form the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and, by creating a generously distributed award called the Golden Globe Award, they now play a significant role in film marketing.

translation: foreign press agents wanted more access to hollywood stars so they created an award to facilitate that.

And the oscars is just the industry giving itself a handjob and in most cases when awards aren't given arbitrarily then theyre given for the same 4 kinds of performances or subjects. Want an oscar nod then do 1. a biopic, 2. a serious subject usually involving people dying or struggling, 3. portray a real person or a real ****ed up person, 4. something topical.

Suge Knight Arraigned for Allegedly Threatening to Kill 'Straight Outta Compton' Director F. Gary Gray
Ashley Cullins said:
The former rap mogul is also awaiting trial for murder in connection with a hit and run that happened during filming.

Conflicts arising from Straight Outta Compton have sparked a parade of legal nightmares for Marion "Suge" Knight — the latest of which saw him arraigned in an L.A. courtroom Thursday morning for allegedly threatening that film's director, F. Gary Gray.

Knight was indicted in February on a charge of violating California's Penal Code 422(a), which involves willful threats "to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person." He was allegedly unhappy with his portrayal in the film and threatened Gray via text message in August 2014.

He's also awaiting a 2018 trial for the murder of Terry Carter and attempted murder of Cle "Bone" Sloan, for which Knight plead not guilty. Knight pulled up to a Compton burger stand in January 2015 and fled after a brief conflict, running over both men.

The former rap mogul has also been fighting civil legal battles on several fronts, involving Dr. Dre, Chris Brown and Scott Storch — not to mention the wrongful death lawsuit he's facing from Carter's family.
