The whole talk that Liz gave to the Dr about what she would do with her husband made me think that its him behind that padlocked door then I remembered last weeks episode when Liz has that dream about Tom who was sporting a beard and it made me think why would Liz dream about Tom with a beard unless he has been hold captive long enough to grow one.

That would be a really dark place to take Lizzie. I thought the part about threatening to kill herself when she was young over a guy was why the Mossad woman gave Liz her evaluation by Creel and left it out of the report.

yup, pretty much what I suspected and they did take her to a dark place which is what I was thinking would happen all along (they teased a bit of it last season when she didn't think twice about breaking Toms thumb with a wrench to get answers)

The thing I'm wondering is who was the person in the car with the glasses on the dashboard that was following Lizzie.

My guess its been the guy/assasin Red sent to protect Liz all along, the glasses were probably just a misdirection.

I guess, but we never saw that guy wearing glasses in any other scene so that would make it a cheap misdirect.

It is and part of me thinks they hadnt thought things through about planning what to do with Tom when they were filming the first episode of season 2,so it might probably was susposed to end up been Tom but things changed somewhere down the line.

I get the feeling this show has fallen into a habit of just putting things onscreen without knowing for sure where they are taking the story.

Im sensing that a lot this season, its very much like wwe story telling.

First time posting in this thread, but I've been watching the show from the beginning. Caught up on this week's episode and had to comment. Just a week or two or go I was commenting to my sister how I wish we knew more about Dembe and why he's so loyal to Red...and low and behold!!! *lol* That plot line was definitely my favorite of the episode, it makes it more of a kind of a surrogate father/son relationship between them instead of mere employer/employee. It makes you want to look back at all the prior episodes (particularly the Anslo Garrick eps where you're biting your nails hoping that Dembe doesn't get killed) and see them with new eyes.

Other than that thread, the other thing I wanted to comment on was a bit regarding Ressler. I understand they did it for plot purposes, but him being sent to Alaska alone (without even having someone from a local branch of law enforcement to partner up/assist him) bugged me and took me out of the episode a bit.

Other than that, pretty good episode. Again, the Dembe thread of the plot and learning more about him was my favorite part.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it. I'm having the feeling they don't even know where to take the story anymore. :csad:

It's like that with a lot of shows. Great premise but nowhere to take it. :(

It's a shame that this seems to be going down The Mentalist path rather than the POI route.

I recall reading something regarding the shows creator and how he has no prior experience doing television before The Blacklist, cant help but think that this is one of the reason the writing has been poor lately

I know right now its pointless to throw out theories regarding this show as it just seems like they themselves have no idea where to take it, but I thought this theory is pretty good and holds some water.

First and foremost Red is not Elizabeth Keen's dad. We know this for a lot of reasons, he is aware of whom his wife is, and his own daughter he is looking for. He's also flat out told Keen he is not, this is important because his character design to Keen has been the flat out truth even if it's brutally painful. Many questions are now sprouting in the minds of "casual" viewers. "But the burns?" is probably the biggest one.

First lets talk about Red from what we know about him already - He is a former military man, and intelligence officer. (You can read this on his Wanted poster in Episode 1 if you pause on the poster) He also meets with one of his former squad mates who briefly talks about an incident that ruined his entire squads lives at the cost of Reds gains. Red corrects this mistake later in that episode by talking to Harold. This is a small piece of information I feel is much bigger. I'll explain it in a second.

The Blacklist is now apparently a list of coordinated people Red has linked to 1 person, he is working through the list to locate and find this 1 person. (Whom will be "No. 1" come the series finale whenever it ends) This person is apparently the bane to Reds life, and also Reds trigger for his criminal history. Why?

With the two above statements made lets get to the point...the twist. The No. 1 person on Reds Blacklist is Elizabeth Keen's father. This is brutally apparent. Going on the raw data the show has given I am going to assume Red, Keen's Father, Sam (Her Stepdad), and the Military man he talked to that Harold is to fix his records for, were all in a unit together in the Military. Red being a "real criminal" and in my opinion the shows obvious true antagonist did something that ruined the lives of many people, including Elizabeth's fathers. These events took place 20 years prior, both Red, and Keen's father disappeared the night Red went to Keen's house. The chess match starts here.

In retribution for this action (whatever it maybe later on) Elizabeth's father attacked Reds family...in the house Red blew up. In return Red did the same, burning down Elizabeth's house. Killing her mother, and thinking he killed the father. Red having lost his daughter or presumed lost his daughter couldn't bear to kill Elizabeth so he took her the night of the fire to Sam. (Who I feel might of been in on Reds military deception when he acted on it) We know this from a conversation in the car between Elizabeth and Red where Red stated "A friend brought you to Sam" not "Your father brought you to Sam". Red's burns also indicate that he was there the night Elizabeth's family was attacked. So Red rescued Keen to take her to Sam, also with Sam on Red's side he could watch over Keen.

Reds dilemma...Keen's father's corpse was never found...And thus the Blacklist starts...Red hunting for Keen's father and Keen's father trying to protect his daughter and kill Red at the same time. <Insert Tom Here> multiple obvious reasons help this as Tom has clearly stated "I work for the good guys." - "Your father is Alive." - "The man I work for is more ruthless, cunning, and lethal" <referring to Keens Father and Red>.

Tom is Keen's fathers Asset, Keen's father has been using Tom to protect and watch over his own daughter. Red knew this about Tom and has been trying to kill Tom since. You might be wondering about Berlin he's a nobody...he's No. 8 on the list which gave it away that he is neither Keen's father, nor is he important. He is a man out for revenge fed false information by Keen's father to kill Red. Nothing more, his involvement will likely be over come the Fall Season Finale.

You might be wondering why Keen's father is allowing Red to stay so close to Keen. This is the only plot point I haven't 100% figured out, but my assumption is Keen's father is cunning enough to know Red would never kill Elizabeth as he needs her for leverage to find Keen's father. So instead of coming out of the shadows he keeps tabs on Reddington by using Tom and other assests like Jolene. Keen's father also likely has a Blacklist sized list of Reddington's men/army that he has to work through himself to get to Reddington. These two men are playing Chess versus each other. Moving pawns around and taking actions when needed. Come the series finale we should have one hell of a standoff between Keen's Father and Reddinton where Keen will likely try to ask her father to spare Reddinton's life due to the fact that Reddington has done so much to help the FBI and or his caring for her makes her feel she owes him back for the times hes saved her.

There are an assortment of other small quips throughout the first season I could denote, but this is the general jist. Hope I didn't ruin the series for too many people.

TL: DR:

Red is the antagonist
Elizabeth Keen's Father is No. 1 on the Blacklist
Reds family was attacked by Keen's father after a Military dispute.
Red attacked Elizabeth's family in return, but could not kill Keen as a child.
Red saved Keen the night he tried to kill her father, took her to Sam. It is how he got his burns.
Tom works for Keen's father, entrusted asset to watch over his daughter.
Red is using the Blacklist to locate Keen's father and finish what he started.
The series finale will be Red vs Keen's Father. Keen will have to decide Red's fate. Likely will step-in to save Reddington in the end.

There is a John Reece in this episode :woot:

That is not the bombshell hyped by the previews is it ?

Lol those previews are melodramatic BS.

I'm still loving this show. Also I just noticed this on Megan Boone's Twitter. Lol.

Interesting twist.

I find the mystery of Reddington plot lines more interesting than the villain of the week ones. When the villain of the week has ties to the overarching plot I think the show is better.

I dunno. This bombshell reveal by Reddington was something I'd pretty much figured out a while ago. I was like, that's it..? :(

While the revelation was not the huge shocking twist they hyped I expected that as the promos are always melodramatic as Marvolo said.

The actual ep was pretty solid from top to bottom though, the stuff with Liz and Tom is good and it was nice to get some development for Samar.

Loved the last episode. Loved the twist. I didn't see it coming at all. I will say that I haven't been as wowed by the Black Listers so far this season the way I was last season. Part of it is the plots themselves which really seem too "case of the week" and part of it is the casting. The casting last season was impeccable where as this season the only guest stars that have really stood out for me are Reuben's (whom I could watch again and again as Mr. Vargas) and Peter Fonda who added a lot to his guest role. Stormare has also been good as Berlin, and I feel that as a season length bad guy he's more than adequate.

I like where Liz is going. She is trying to control her own destiny in the middle of this whole situation and to do that she's staying on the razor's edge in so many ways, professionally, ethically, her personal relationships... She can't walk away but she can't just be buffeted by all the forces at play anymore either. She's sharper in the field than ever, as witnessed by her sussing out the fake hospital situation, something I think old Liz might have taken at face value. So on that end they are handling things very well. But... Yes, they need to start getting things in focus and having reveals that clarify and not obfuscate things more. The Red's wife thing had some great moments (threatening the husband and Reuben's visiting the mistress being a high point) but I am really LESS clear on his history now than I was before. By no means has the show jumped the shark for me, nor is it less compelling as a show, but it's lost a step from the previous season. Concentrating on the Liz/Red connection and the back story of Tom is the way to move things forward. And that's important. Move the mysteries forward and not just leaving the audience twisting in the wind. More backstory on Red's merry band of loyal employees would help, as witnessed by people's reaction to learning about the depth of Dembe's and Red's relationship. That's great stuff, and I want to see more. Again, still a quality show that keeps me entertained with a fantastic cast that I adore, especially Boone and Spader, but they need to up their game a little.

Finally caught up. Liz was hot in her panties showing off her legs in that hospital set, which was a bit like a Mission Impossible con. More of her dressed like that each week please.

Wasnt expecting the twist at the end.

I have to say that this season hasn't been as interesting.

I really hope that's not the last we see of Tom.

I don't think we have seen the last of Tom.

I'm interested in seeing more of the shadowy cabal that Fitch was a part of.

I'm sick of these season interruptions

February

Really????
