NBC's ''The Blacklist''

I thought clip episodes were a thing lost in the 90's.

Dull episode bar the scene between Red and The Major where we learned more about Tom. I didn't think it made sense how a powerful Federal unit was kowtowed by some power tripping Judge and I didn't like how the episode took Liz out of character in how easily he flustered her.

It felt like some focus group had given feedback that the audience had lost track and thus interest in what the shows through-line was, so they did a recap episode.

It was almost as if the Judge was the voice of the shows audience and skeptics.

My favorite part.
Liz:''wow I suck''
The Judge then looks at the Stenographer to make sure she got that.

I also enjoyed the Judge pointing out how oblivious Liz is to all the things around her.

Filler episode used to pad out a over long network TV season.

I think the Judge is working for someone, just don't know who yet. His questions were quite pointed at finding out information, more so than was necessary for him to make a determination on the actual case he was supposed to be presiding over.

^ That was how I took it too. I'm thinking the Judge is also trying to determine if Red really has the Fulcrum or not.

I have a feeling the Stenographer is working for Red.

I was thinking the same about the Judge and how it makes no sense how Liz didn't react and counter him.

What's worse is how Liz was openly giving those information to the Judge. She didn't have to offer some of those information out (like the Fulcrum). I'm shocked that she wasn't more suspicious of how pointed the judge's questions are.

If he's not a spy for someone, I'm half expecting the Judge to not make it out alive. I don't think Red would allow someone like that to just know all those details. :hehe:

In some ways it was like Liz was using him as her therapist. :funny:

Yes, I can't see Red being comfortable with so much vital intel just floating around out there. :ninja:

OR...

Liz and Red are baiting the judge into exposing his shadowy backers that are making him do this in the first place.

So Red hired Tom to get close to Liz. Then Berlin outbids Red for Tom's services. Man, that scene outside the Nebraska hospital is so damn confusing. Also, it was nice to see Slade Wilson again.

Seriously, why did they "pretend" not to know each other?

I really think so too. My wife had a good point about last week's episode and the "recap". Maybe since the show switched days, they figured they needed to bring everyone up to speed if they were new to the show.

Nevertheless, I've never seen a series recap just over halfway into the second season of said series.

Harold's government friend giving the judge a verbal beatdown was awesome.

Him saying "I think" as me thinking he isn't sure either. We'll see.

As for the most recent episode....

So the judge was legit. Nothing shady. He just wants justice for the dead cop. Almost felt bad for him as he was getting his ass handed to him by smug face. Didn't like smug face making that "I can do whatever I want" smug face as he left the judge's office, the courtroom & Cooper's office. Here's hoping he gets to eat one of Red's bullets.

Red shouldn't question Ressler anymore when he insists on taking part in Red's stings. That's the 2nd or 3rd time that Ressler has used the dirty FBI agent on Red's payroll. And it works.

I think Tom was betting on getting locked away in some high maximum federal prison after confessing to escape whoever hired him to infiltrate that nazi group. Whoever wanted Tom inside that neo-nazi group will be looking for a refund.

Damn. Tom got really ripped. Me likey! :awesome:

Yep. I do feel bad for the judge though. That must've been so frustrating and you just know that Harold's friend is up to no good. Those favors he's been going is going to bite Liz and Harold in the ass pretty soon.

What did everyone take away from Reds final dialogue with Liz, I took it as him feeling guilty about killing her (Liz) parents, esp when she was currently observing the dead cops kid daughter (and setting up a trust fund for her).

Gotta admit it was kinda strange to see Tom Connolly (Reed Birney) give the Judge a verbal beat down in this episode but then play somewhat of a loser (Donald Blythe) in House of Cards.

I agree with your first comments. Red was revealing without saying specifics. He's sneaky that way. :)

Ditto. He was really referring to him and Liz with him being Liz and Liz being the cop's daughter. Spader did some exceptional acting in that particular scene.

I was surprised the judge was not a part of some deeper conspiracy looking for evidence on Red. It turns out he was "paranoid about the government" instead. He was so pointedly looking for details that he appeared to be involved in the very thing he was trying to uncover. :funny:

And Spader... that guy rocks. I've liked him for years but it wasn't until recently with The Blacklist and just the voiceover work for the Age of Ultron trailer makes him so much more impressive now.

And to think he was Daniel Jackson on Stargate. Not that I'm knocking it. It's just so different in tone and reality to what he's doing now that it makes his versatility stand out all that much more.

The scene at the end with Red and Liz was brilliant, Spader's facial expressions conveying the underlying heartfelt regret and guilt of what he was actually saying, and Megan's selling Liz's realization.

The scene with Tom and the judge was also great, Tom has become such a complex and interesting character,. I can't see things ending well for him but I hope they keep him around for a long while yet and explore his relationship with Liz and his past.

Smug bastard vs paranoid prick was a great scene, and I agree with Kvz, smug bastard is going to become a problem for Harold.

The outcome of the trial was pretty bold on the shows part, you felt for the cop and the family, yet you also felt for Liz and had to balance it with the bigger picture.

I'm thinking that Red & Tom never met prior to the NB Hospital. It wasn't until Berlin came into the picture that Tom found out about who hired him. Red of course knew exactly who he was talking to outside of the hospital.

Good episode last night, I couldn't help but think of the current Batman Endgame storyline which also deals with immortality (esp when they bought up experimenting with the jellyfish).

Next episode looks intense.

Liz looked cute in her winter clothes and the scene with her and Ressler was nice, plus the stuff with Tom is very good right now.

Oh that looks like some good stuff! :woot:
