and guys, he has an actual job and life that he needs to attend to. he only makes stuff as quickly as he can, which isn't very fast. he's not at everyone's beck and call, and will start up his shop every time someone gets an idea for a new prop. With the gunblade, it was a case of him being intrigued by the idea, me being willing to pay for it, it being simple and doable, and us having confidence he could sell another dozen of em on ebay (which he did). Doc Ock Tentacles are difficult, especially if you wanted them affixed to a harness for someone to wear, as you suggested. The ones he made originally (to start this thread) where supposed to be for display only, and he wanted a few hundred just for 2 feet of one of em. it's not cheap, nor easy for him to make.

and for all we know, he hasn't been around cause he's having a family crisis or something. Maybe he'll never come back, in which case I'd be sad, cause he was a nice, cool guy

Hey, I admit his costume needs to be updated, but he is still cool. And I don't mean the crappy Ultimate Shocker. But I believe the reason for the costume was so that he was protected against his own gauntlets. Sort of like a shock absorber.

Hey, I hear ya. If he wants to say no, he can say no! But the props I want aren't nearly as unique as the gunblade. I know all about mass production. Make the mold (the most expensive part), and the rest is gravy. I see 10 auctions a day for sideshowcollectables Samaritan gun, all at $500+. And this is an item that is limited to 1000 units. I also cant count the times I have seen a request for a Daredevil billyclub, another fairly easy project for a guy with his skills. The guy has talent, lets help him make the extra scratch if he wants it. And if he doesnt, no harm no foul.

Regardless, he's still a favorite for many. Besides, IMO there's so much wasted potential on him.

BTW, I was watching a few auctions on Ebay. They were selling one of the original shirts, pants and dusters from the movie. I didn't see what they finally went for, but the shirt was at about $200 with a day left, the pants about $500, and the duster was at $1600 with 11 hours left!! Oh, to have that much extra cash lying around.

That is alot of payola. The gun will have a rotating cylinder with removeable shells/bullets but will not cock nor have a moving trigger. Do you want the piece painted or are you willing to paint it yourself? I usually use Krylon plastic paint with airbrushed touchups and highlights. Nothing too difficult. The gun will be a very realistic weight and very exact size. It will be constructed entirely of cast resin including the grips.

Sounds great. If you have time to paint it, please do. If not, I'll do it myself. I would just hate to ruin the piece with my clumsy mitts. The articulation is more than I hoped for, given the time limit. I'm going to use it for Halloween, then display it in my rec room. I run a nightclub in Indy and always have a sweet costume. If someone will tell me how to post a picture, I'll post one of me as the Hulk last year.

I drew the Sam up on a computer program and tweaked the size until I was happy then printed that and a mirror immage to adhere to pink styrofoam. This will make the masters for the mold

The gun will be cast in three large pieces and then have trim added for
realism.

Looking good. I think the frame and cylinder need to be a little taller to be in proportion to the handle. Other than that, I think its fine. Any opinions from the peanut gallery?

I have had alot of people ask me how I make some of the props so I will
post some pictures as I go for those of you that are interested in doing something yourselves.

First i print out my finished photo. in this case it had to be taped together
to come out of my printer. In this case i made a mirror image as well for the
second half of the gun. (the reason for this will be more apparent in the casting stage) This is applied to a sheet of Fomular insulation. From good ol home depot. it is amazingly easy and cheap to work with.

Then i cut the rough shape out with a scroll saw. Some people prefer a band saw or hand cuts with a razor but for me the accuracy of the scroll saw is best.

Then I start shaping the guns different angles and levels. I will have to do everything twice to complete both sides of the gun.This is where you really have to have a little vision to see how its all going to come together in the end. As you can see i have left off some important pieces such as the hammer and the sight and the top rail. These will all be added later to the body. They have been left of for a reason and you will see how it finishes later. I decided to use a bit of wooden dowel for the lower slide. It will also be cast after being adhered to the foam later.

Damn that is a big barrel.

So the Sam is under way. It feels good to get back in the shop. I live in Arizona and it is so friggen hot even though my garage has AC it is too hot most days to work out there but a little cooling trend has made it not too bad at all.

Big gun for a big boy. I am SO excited that this is getting done. I have seen so many auctions for this gun on Ebay for $500+. Guys, lets keep our prop builder in business!!I am betting that he is going to sell this to me (and others) for under $150. You can reserve judgement until you see the finished product (not me, I bought this under contract), but hop on. If we can make Suicide King some money, how nice would it be to have our own pet prop builder!?!? (No offense, SK, just trying to keep the paper flowing!!)
