Next year I'll be doing a student film. The script has been worked out and I am about half way through it. The film features some mild gun play, and I will need fairly realistic looking replicas. Is there anywhere I would be able to quickly and cheaply acquire such things?

Also, if anyone has any recommendations regarding what type of camera to shoot the film with, it would be greatly appreciated.

find some friends who have airsoft guns and such or just plain fake guns.

with cameras, i'm not so sure. I'd go for a The Panasonic PV-GS33. It's $350, but it's damn good for detail and frame rate.

Pretty much what DP said. Airsoft guns look pretty realistic, save for an orange tip, annd that can easily be manipulated. For cameras, well, it really depends on how you want the film to look. Different camereas work better for different films, if you know what I mean.

I pefer the Canon XL2, even though it's not a huge step up from the XL1.
It's really what kinda film your doing, like SwordMaster said.

It's basically going to be done as a sort of Noir 24, with some of it in more of a docu-style, but most of it in a method more reminiscient of classic cinema. I'm heavily influenced by some of the works by Jacques Tourneur.

you could buy a gun and just shoot blanks. wait,

are you over 18 and have an ID and no criminal record?

No, yes and yes.

I can't use real guns anyway. I'm going to be filming this in some public places that might frown upon it. But thank you for the advice.

id recomend pellet guns, but those look and sound a lot like real guns and might cause you some legal trouble.
