(A little taste of what's been written so far. Not proof read. It is set sometime in the early 1980s)

CLOSE UP OF POSTER NIGHT

A poster ‘ELECT HARVEY DENT for DA’ sets upon a brick wall. The bright, vibrant colorful poster is the only hint of color on a DREARY backdrop. SUDDENLY the hiss of a spray paint can is heard. Bright neon yellow streaks across the poster and young men snicker as the face of Harvey Dent is besmirched.

CUT TO ALLEYWAY NIGHT

CAMERA ON the three youths as they spray paint the wall in front of them. Behind them the figure of a lady passes the street in front of the alleyway and the three youths turn and look. She is alone.

INT. STREET NIGHT

The three YOUTHS make their way out onto the street, and slowly follow the young lady. He hair is black. She is a pretty young lady, with pale skin.

SUDDENLY the youths dash at her. She screams out, but in the struggle she cannot be heard. The clutch and grab at her purse and lock themselves in a seemingly endless tug of war until…

…the purse strap breaks. SNAP!

The youth clutching the purse staggers back from the momentum, then stops momentarily holding the purse. He pauses. Then he runs. The other two follow swiftly behind him as the CAMERA follows. They dart down an alleyway.

CUT TO INT. ALLEYWAY – NIGHT

The youth rummages through the purse, his hand darting about inside.

YOUTH
Sam, what’s in there, I wanna see!
SAM
Shut up Winston! I’m trying to find her fu---
(He snatches out a full money clip filled with hundreds)
FOUND IT!
YOUTH 2
Dang, that’s a lot of money.
QUICK CUT to TRASH CAN as it falls to the ground. THUD! The boys jump.

WINSTON
What was that?!?!
QUICK CUT to a cat slowly poking his head out from behind the fallen trash can.

SAM pulls out a make-up compact and throws it at the cat. He misses the animal by a mile. The cat, startled, disappears into a pile of garbage.

CLOSE UP ON YOUTH 2. He slowly walks over to the trash can, slowly investigates the area then shakes his head.

YOUTH 2
Cats man…
A brilliant non-statement.

The YOUTH 2 walks over to the pile of garbage.

YOUTH 2
Here kitty kitty kitty
JUST THEN a figure jumps out of the garbage. He tackles the YOUTH and drags him to the ground. HE QUICKLY pins the youth on his back.

CLOSE UP OF THE YOUTH as he claws the ground like an animal, trying to get away. The man in black keeps pulling him back. FINALLY the man lets loose a ferocious punch right to the youth’s head. The youth falls limp on the ground unconscious, and the man slowly rises to his feet.

He is dressed in all black, head to toe. Black boots, like those you’d find in the army. He wears a black pair of jeans, and black shirt. His face is obscured by a black baklava. He rises off the boy and stands tall.

CAMERA ON WINSTON as he nervously pulls out a gun. His hand shakes. He has clearly never fired one of these things before.

WINSTON
I’ll shoot, I’ll do it.
CLOSE UP OF the Man in black. He silently throws his hand up, and like magic three metal balls fly out of his palm.

They fly towards WINSTON’s face and explode in mid air. A thick cloud of smoke appears and WINSTON begins to cough.

THE MAN IN BLACK comes silently screaming through the cloud like a feral phantom and pulls WINSTON back in with him. WHEN the smoke clears the MAN IN BLACK is gripping WINSTON’s collar, holding his unconscious torso inches above the ground.

SAM fear dissipates and is replaced by anger and desperation. He lunges at the MAN AND BLACK. The man raises his arms to defend himself, but SAM has the upper hand. He quickly pulls out a knife and begins wildly stabbing and slashing.

He draws blood.

The MAN IN BLACK makes his first noise.

MAN IN BLACK
Ugh!
That is all he is, just a man.

SAM goes in for a kill, but the MAN swiftly grips the hand holding the knife. THE MAN delivers a mighty blow to SAM’s elbow with his other arm, shattering the bone. SAM screams!

SAM
You mudder fucccar…
SAM gripes his arm in intense pain, and can barely form words to express it. ANOTHER earth shattering blow across SAM’s face and he falls to the ground like the rest of his friends.

CAMERA ON THE PURSE as a bloodied hand plucks it off the ground.

INT. WOMAN on PAYPHONE

WOMAN
(frantic)
Yes, this is Selina Kyle, that’s S-E-
(pause – yells)
I JUST WANT TO TALK TO AN OFFICER!!!
A hand slaps the PHONEBOOTH three times quickly. FROM the door there is a very audible crack on the hand as it slaps the door.

Selina Kyle quiets herself, and all that is heard is the ambient nose from the woman on the other line.

EXT. PHONEBOOTH – Viewed through POV of the pavement.

THE PHONEBOOTH door swings open and SELINA KYLE looks down.

CUT TO CLOSE UP OF PURSE ON THE PAVEMENT

Selina Kyle kneels down and picks up the purse and holds it up. It’s hers.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN TO INT. ROAD – NIGHT

A black sports car flys wildly down a winding road. Swerve and weaving as if being driven by a drunk. The rain pours down on the road, blackening the surroundings around it. To the right is a cliff, cavernous and deep, and the car swerves dangerously close to it.

IT SQUEELS OFF into the night.

INT. SPORTS CAR

The MAN IN BLACK tightly gripes the steering wheel as if he’s holding on for dear life itself. His eyes writhe in pain, and little pools of blood spackles his shirt.

CUT TO. INT – MANSION. WAYNE MANOR – A brightly lit study.

There sits a man in his fifties, with slicked gray hair and a thin mustache. He has an old toughness to him, but he hides it well beneath a guise of sophistication. In a way this is a man at peace with his duality. His name is ALFRED PENNYWORTH. He quietly thumbs his NOVEL – HENRY V.

JUST THEN he is startled by what sounds like a car crash immediately outside.

FAIRLY GOOD..........Who is the baddie
Well unlike most every Batman thus far, this movie is about Batman first and foremost. There are basically two villains. One is the Joker who basically just appears at the end, and tipifies some of Batman's early failures. Then Hugo Strange would be the 'main baddie', but he's basically someone for Batman to fight. He has no real strong connections to the first half of the film. He's a doctor of human behavioral studies who contracts with the mob. He devises this scheme to evade the authorities where they set up patsies called 'The Red Hood'. The Red Hood is always identified as the ring leader by anyone's who is caught, while in reality the Red Hood is simply a person they con into helping them, who is killed shortly thereafter. I suppose you can figure out how the Joker factors into that.

The whole point of the movie is I'm taking the formula of Bat-movies and flipping it on it's head. It isn't an action movie, it's a drama and a character piece about Batman. The action only exists as a byproduct of the story. The drama drives the action, the action doesn't drive the story. It's about Bruce facing challenges and ultimately figuring out the path he wants to lead.

sounds deep and very interesing

I'll give the very basic breakdown of the first act.

After the brief scene you read, Bruce's first night out, Bruce crashes his car outside Wayne Manor, and bats are encircling him while his consciousness slips in and out.

Bruce awakes to a very vivid memory of his mom reading "Good night moon", and his consciousness slips one more (play on inception with layered dreams)

Bruce awakes once more sitting in a room with Lucius A Fox, his father, his mother and a school administrator. The school administrator heaps praise upon how gifted of a student Bruce is at the age of 10. Lucius and Thomas Wayne express interest in sending young Wayne to a special school when he reaches High School age in Japan, a business school so Wayne can learn to take his fathers role as CEO. Bruce immediately becomes anxious about the trip and later expresses doubt about being able to live away from home to his mother.

That night his father takes them to see "The Mark of Zorro", and the rest you know is history. After the funeral Bruce enters his fathers gym and wales upon the punching bag until he breaks and bloodies his hands. Alfred finds him.

The story takes a somewhat modest jump forward in time. Bruce now approaching high school age has been nose deep in books on crime and investigation. Alfred runs cover for him by saying that he is being home schooled, but Lucius is now pressing for Bruce to attend college in Japan.

Lieuntenent Gordon arrives at Wayne Manor to report that there has been a break in his parents murder. He takes him into the GCPD and hands Bruce a file on Joe Chill. They say they have pinned him as the murderer. An orderly at Arkham made the connection while hearing Chill's psychotic ramblings about murdering some kids parents. It is revealed that he died while in Arkham.

Bruce has now been robbed of his revenge, so he visits Arkham. Dr. Arkham tells Bruce about Joe Chill and how he was a superstitious and cowardly man. Bruce is toured the through halls, and is told many of their stories, and begins to wonder if one day he would end up there. Dr. Arkham convinces Bruce that the only way to stop the Joe Chills of the world is to play on their superstitions.

Bruce returns home, he accepts the trip to Japan. Once at school he turns his entire semesters assignments in the first day and says he will not be returning until the next semester. He heads for Kigiri temple, and begins his training. We meet Lady Shiva there.

Sadly, I'm concentrating on my Matrix Prequel (which has been a little hard to write, I wrote it while I was having a very rough week, now I'm having a phenomenal week and can't stop smiling...so tapping into angst is a lot more challenging). My Matrix Prequel features mostly original characters, minus two very minor characters and plot points, it's entirely it's own thing making me more jazzed about writing it. I don't have a great third act for this yet either, but I'm open to suggestions.
