Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

After months of waiting, The Wonder Years was finally added to Netflix.

one of the reasons the series has never been on home video is because the contract and licensing rights for all the songs used in the series, including the theme song, did not include home video distribution (because such a thing didnt exist at the time). so, to go back now and acquire licensing rights to all the songs in the show for home video distribution (i.e. the most popular songs of all time) would cost a small fortune to do.

so there are probably more changes than just the intro. they probably replaced the original musical cues with other (cheaper) songs or covers of what they originally used. i just watched the first few seconds of it on netflix, and it sounds like theyre using a cover of joe cockers version for the theme.

& from what I hear it does not have the intro theme song

They have a slightly different version of the same song. It's still Cocker singing too.

is it still cocker singing? from the few seconds i heard, it was obviously a different version that what they originally used, i thought they just had someone trying to imitate the cocker original.

Netflix Scraps Plans to Separate DVD-by-Mail Service
Source: Netflix October 10, 2011

Netflix, Inc. today said it will not rename its DVD-by-mail service and that its U.S. members will continue to go to the Netflix website for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

Netflix said in a September 18 blog post that its DVD-by-mail service would operate at Qwikster.com. Instead, U.S. members will continue to use one website, one account and one password for their movie and TV watching enjoyment under the Netflix brand.

"Consumers value the simplicity Netflix has always offered and we respect that," said Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings. "There is a difference between moving quickly -- which Netflix has done very well for years -- and moving too fast, which is what we did in this case."

Netflix today informed its U.S. members in personal emails and a post on the Netflix Blog, which you can read below:

DVDs will be staying at netflix.com

It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.

This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster.

While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.

We’re constantly improving our streaming selection. We’ve recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we’ve added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS.

We value our members, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get movies & TV shows.

Thank you.

Well thats good

But are they still planning on adding video games is my question.

What a company in disarray. How can they make so many questionable decisions, in such a close span, after being so good before that? Crazy.

They're desperate to stay ahead of the curve and as a result are screwing themselves.

I am guessing they will make the Video Game thing separate

They've gone manic. It's like someone dosed their cereal with extra sugar or maybe PCP.

It's just another Manic Monday at the Netflix office.

You don't say.

Easily negotiable, but still... of course it makes it more ****ing difficult.

If anything, they should make the video game component a 'separate' entity.

this was all just a ploy to make us think they're still listening to customers. :p

This just sounds so incompetent to me, making it one company again does not erase the bad will it created. Also I'm starting to question how smart this guy really is after everything that's happened.

this whole ordeal may have been crazy, but you gotta give them credit for recognizing their error, listening to their customers, and admitting guilt. im glad they listened and decided to keep it all under one house.

I have a hard time believing Qwikster was real, this was all some weird internal ploy for God knows what. The stoned dude who owns the Qwikster twitter is going to be significantly bummed by this news.

They wanted customers to believe they were still listening to them.

So they created this Qwikster ploy, knowing it would tick customers off. Then 'listened' to the customers and didn't go through with the idea they had no intention going through with.

Now to put my paranoia back in it's cage where it belongs. :p

It was phenomenally stupid... and a ****ty name to boot.

It's amazing how a better flow of information and the exercise of a little common sense would paint an entirely different picture here.

i joked that this was all a ruse to distract people from the price change fiasco.

but really, any idea that this was a ploy is ridiculous. no ploy is worth the bad press and stock drop this resulted in.

I dont care what these numb nuts do, I cant believe they drove me back to blockbuster for online renting and video game service. Took the perfect business model and word of mouth and in less then a month flushed it right down the toilet and didnt even have the common courtesyto wipe the seat off.

Isn't it obvious?

It was all part of a secret backroom deal to drive Netflix stock price down low enough for Amazon to buy it out for cheap.
