Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

Thats not what I meant. What I was trying to say is that the prices we are paying for currently with DVD and Streaming, will probably become the prices we will be paying for only one of those service a year or two down the line.

The crazy thing is their watch instantly selection is horrendously bad and limited. How is it fair to charge the same price for the dvd by mail option?

Oh, you mean a bump to $10 instead of $8 for one service? Yeah, I could see that eventually, though I doubt it will be any time soon since they lowered the price for now. Though, I don't know why some are so down on the streaming service. It's not the greatest library in the world or anything, but I find it to be pretty good.

I signed up with netflix last june for new titles and it would save me money instead of paying $5 a pop to rent from blockbuster. a year later, Im stuck waiting for every new title and all the instant streaming is, is a straight to dvd fans wet dream. Blockbuster striking that deal for exclusivity is complete bull crap, now I know they did it to stay afloat but every movie seems like they get for 30 days.

I hate this change. Personally, I think their streaming library is crap. If you count the movies I've wanted to see out of my own leisure and the 20ish I had to watch for my class last semester, only 2 or 3 were streaming. If you want to watch shows, streaming is good. But movies have a limited selection.

What I hate is there's no discount to get both. There'd be more of an incentive to get both plans if you got $2-3 off.

My family is currently on this plan with Blu-Ray which is $12. We'll definitely just be going to regular DVDs and streaming, maybe ditch one of them down the road.

I completely agree with you. One more thing that REALLY irritates me is the lack of HD content. I just don't get why the newer movies aren't in HD and it's mostly old movies that are in HD. That just doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.

I've already changed my plan to streaming only and joined Blockbuster (blu-ray no charge. woot!) I like that they get movies so much sooner.

To me it seems like they've gotten about Blockbuster...or just don't consider them a threat. But when Netflix pulls stuff like this, they need to realize Blockbuster has two big benefits that Netflix doesn't have...movies on release and free blu-ray. It's enough to make even a huge fan of Netflix like myself jump ship and just keep streaming.

To me it seems like they've gotten about Blockbuster...or just don't consider them a threat. That was my problem with them too awhile back. But lately i've noticed a lot of older titles I hadn't heard of before on Blockbuster. Especially foreign films that Netflix didn't even have. So, I think they are improving. I mainly use them for newer foreign films (they get them sooner) and new american releases and tv shows. Seems to be good so far. Heck, it's a good thing Blockbuster can't stream on 360 or else I might be tempted to leave Netflix all together.

It's a doubling (almost) of the current price. And Netflix only puts a fraction of their stuff up for streaming. If that doesn't change, that's a big negative.

I'll be downgrading to streaming only come September (or rather late August). I go for the DVDs by mail just as a nice, little $1-2 throw-in. I'm not really all that keen on checking out enough flicks that are mail-exclusive for it to be worth $8 on its own (which still ain't a bad price at all).

Oh well, they held off on this longer than I imagined they would.

So, if I'm reading the Blockbuster site right, 1 disc a month (including bluray) and unlimited steaming for $11.99

While Netflix will be 1 disc a month for $7.99. And blueray is an additional $2.00.

I think personally netflix streaming is horrible and has nothing really worthwhile as far as new hits. Ironman 2 is the newest big movie they got and that came out last october on bluray. I wouldnt mind streaming only if brand new movies were available but I think im going with 2 blurays at a time and no streaming.

It doesn't have much newer stuff, true, but I find a lot of stuff on there I enjoy quite a bit. I was watching 3rd Rock from the Sun, Rocko's Modern Life and Married...With Children slowly via that, and I got to watch all of 30 Rock up to season 4 thanks to that. Picked up a lot of good foreign films and stand-ups, too. I really don't see why people are down on it. Maybe it doesn't have a lot of newer stuff, but it's got a good amount of content that they're constantly working on growing.

This is why if I stick with the service I'll be downgrading something, or not using streaming. That content is too limited or old. If they'd release first run it'd be great but they dont, and it's bad enough I have to wait and extra month from when some movies are available for sale, till they are available in my queue.

Yeah, I mostly watch it for the TV offerings. I've either caught up on or got into several programs through that. Notable new releases don't do that much for me. There's likely a reason why I passed on them during first run or even at the $1 theater. I'm more partial to older stuff. Even that's just a bonus.

I can make up for the new stuff I missed and really want to see with the occasional rental. It'd be less than what they're charging to continue my current subscription under the new rate.

Maybe if they let us download the Videos we Stream we like Amazon & Itunes does then that would probably help make this plan worth while ? That way put it on any device you want when you can't use Netflix etc
