Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

I like the idea of video game servive . Now that is a smart move though I am curious to how much more they will try to squeeze out of me ?

I would say atleast $10 extra tacked on to what you already pay with netflix. Im just curious though how they'll handle that, it will be tough for them to get me to do it because I did that $15 a month with blockbuster where I get one game out a time for as long as I want with no fees and blockbuster at most is 3 minutes form my condo.

The problem with Blockbuster, is that if you want a game on release day, you have to get it at the store and pay an additional $1.99 (regardless if you are already paying for the monthly subscription). If you want the same game through the mail, you have to wait 3 months. Example: Uncharted 3 in store pick up 11/1/11 or subscription through mail 2/14/2012. If they did away with that, I would probably switch from GF to them.

I think they're trying to get kill DVD-by-mail. More people probably stream than get DVDs, so they rather put their money into getting more streaming content. They probably figure that the USPS will either increase rates or just go under. If any of those 2 happen, they'll have to increase the price of DVD rentals and would rather just outright can it.

I don't like the adding games. GameFly's issue is that they are expensive to obtain quickly and have a large stock. They also require extra padding because they are expensive to replace and therefore higher shipping rates. They're setting up Qwikster to fail.

Also, I like how he just apologizes for the price change. Yeah, thanks, how about giving a discount for subscribing to both plans?

But they are losing streaming content (Starz for one). Unless they put a deal together soon, things will only get worse for them.

Netflix to Split DVD Service into Qwikster, Add Video Games

I am happy they want to add video games but the bigger question is will they have a good amount of games and will the shipping and availibility be way better then gamefly? I currently have the blockbuster thing for games so I also have to ask will blockbuster get games before they do like new movies now?

So if Netflix customers want Qwikster, they'll have to subscribe to them separately? I don't think I'll be interested in that.

I have already switched my Netflix to one-DVD-and-streaming, but since I hardly watch their streaming (except for their Starz shows, which I heard will be ending soon), I might change to DVD only or simply cancel it completely.

Im not sure where your getting that intel from but I signed up a day before resistance 3 was out and they didnt charge me for a dime of it. just the half off for my first month. Yes it is $1.99 a day to rent now but with the subscription pass of instore rental you dont pay extra for first day releases.

Yeah there saying basically if you go with both dvd and streaming you will see 2 credit card charges, one from netflix and one from qwikster but both total what your currently paying (NO PRICE HIKES). I do just 2 bluray out at a time currently. I can see though this driving more people away because lets face it people dont want to add having to watch for 2 more charges on there credit card statements.

Im thinking of canceling though because more and more movies now are taking forever to become available and somehow shockingly I was able to get thor last week the day after its release from them.

Its funny he apologizes for the price hike but thats where he ends it. They admit it was a bad idea but dont want to go back to the pre july rates because it will make them look bad as a company. What started out as a new and better alternative to blockbuster and hollywood video has now turned into the evil they were trying to out do.

They all do it except wal-mart, they atleast realized you get the people coming back by being the cheapest in town 24/7. So many stores and business do this same model of being the new kid on the block who does better then joe blow then they turn around and do worse tactics to "rape" the consumers they've amassed form the competition.

It would not surprise me if Starz started their own site like HBO did & the Cable Providers paid for everything letting customers just login. I love HBOGO

My point was that I think they're trying to kill DVDs by mail so they can focus only on streaming. By prolonging it with Qwikster, it's like telling the people who only got DVDs "Oh well, we tried."

One of my teachers in middle school used to say "Don't tell me you're sorry, show me you're sorry." It's a great phrase which I use all the time and this is what this apology is, it's completely empty. Give me my old price back or at least a $2-3 discount on getting both subscriptions, otherwise your apology means nothing.

I honestly cant remember any company ever reverting back to a previous rate after a hike followed by mass criticism before. Gas stations maybe but they dont count. Netflix really did screw up a good thing. They should have stayed with what they were doing by having the streaming as a nice little add on to bring customers on board from the competition but sadly they got greedy like the rest of corporate america.

Yeah, I was talking about the $22 a month Total Pass. it doesn't include the $1.99 games for in store pick up.

I was just saying that it might be too late for that. They should have had that focus on streaming a long time ago, because they are losing their partners. Showtime has pulled some programing and now Starz (which includes Disney and Sony Pictures) is not renewing it's contract with them. They have a real mess on their hands and need to start paying up.

oh my bad this is that new $15.99 combo pass there pushing in store only. I noticed something though thursday when I was in blockbuster, 70% of there store is dvd dominated with 30% bluray. Its also a telling statistic that a good amount of the population still hasnt converted to the bluray/HD/3D tech craze.

This is the first time I have heard about the the $15 deal, so that's what threw me off. Lol. Sounds like a good deal if your BB gets new games in on a consistent basis and you can get there in time to get the one you want. I usually have bad luck with those types of things though.

I just read that if you are subscribing for both DVD and streaming with Netflix, you'll be double-billed for these services once Qwikster goes live? If that's the case, I better decide which one of the two I'd rather keep, or perhaps just cancel both and get out of this Netflix nonsense.

Yep. Two separate bills and two separate websites to go to.

This is just facepalm-worthy.

I heard that Netflix was losing money (or claimed that they were losing money) with the old pricing plan. But is separating DVD and streaming services while hiking the rate up as much as 60% worth it for the 1 million+ lost subscribers and 18% drop in their stock value? I think they probably lose even more money with the changes that they imposed.

I think they started it sept 1 if I had to guess, They seem to get every tuesday new game releases so its well worth it for me anyway. I just cant afford to keep dishing out $60 a game, the only draw back is you have to purchase a online pass depending on the developer.

I heard that rumor too and unless they open there books to the customers we have to take them at there word. I see them loosing money anyway they look at it. It would be different if say they had up to date movies available say 3 weeks after there released to instantly watch but there streaming has nothing good to offer. I havent had the streaming since august so maybe someone can tell what new movies they have now. I cant see how they were loosing money to make the moves they have made recently and expect to continue to grow financially. The only redeeming quality about them so far is you can cancel anytime you want without contract issues like a cell phone provider would.

Qwikster is handling physical discs and games. Netflix will be streaming only.

Idk. This just confuses me. I mean I get that Qwikster has DVDs and such and Netflix is now just streaming. IM just confused as to why? It just seems like an unnecessary and stupid change
