Umbrella Academy Netflix Orders 'Umbrella Academy' Adaptation

Only 2 episodes in my friend.
Oh yes. I misread and thought you were 2 episodes into the second season. Cool, look forward to hearing what you think when you’re further in.

No probs easily done. Yeah if this didn’t have such a good reputation I would be skeptical about carrying on at this point to Be honest. I have kinda already guessed a few things and only parts of the storyline are grabbing me so far. The Hellboy influence is strong also but should have have expected that from a Dark Horse comic.

Started the first 2 episodes of the first season and finding it a bit slow to be honest.

But believe it gets better so will stick with it.

Dude, did you miss
the bit in the first episode where the Umbrella Academy team up to use all of their powers to take on a Russian tank and infantry division followed by a nuclear explosion?

Or Diego's escape from the institution?

But otherwise, there are some slow bits - I found the Vanya- Sissy storyline always slowed things down for me.

It depends on what you like I guess. Overall I felt the pacing a bit better.

Oh a few other things I meant to mention.

The nitrous oxide scene was hilarious.

I'm a big fan of team films and the family element here is a big thing for me too. When the
gang finally comes together and gets behind Vanya as a family, it's a great moment. I was worried when Vanya asks for help and gets turned down, but it turned out to be a good fakeout lol. I was genuinely thinking they were turning down her down and that the show was about to get too "edgy" for me. I'm fine with conflicts and tensions within a dysfunctional team/family, but I also need my cathartic moment at some point too.

It was also nice seeing Ben miss his family and interact in some way and it's a shame he's gone but at least we get the new version going forward.

It was great seeing them get over their personal crap to help Vanya - the comic probably would have gone the other way, because everytime after they band together to save the day they seem to all go their separate ways again. The show has some healing in it ( I'm so glad they had Luther own up to his part in causing the 2019 Apocalypse, and apologise to Vanya)

Well yeah I missed it because that sounds like season 2 and I only started season 1 last night :oldrazz:

I‘m now in 2.07 - I am also annoyed by the switching status quo of the academy members.
one episode Klaus/Allison/Vanya leave the cult/husband/girlfriend, next episode they return to them, after leaving them again,...I‘m lost right now, if they‘re back together or what.
Like the first season definitely not my series...but I‘ll finish it anyway

Edit: O.K. „Everybody“ got me

And when did Diego learn to Neo a hail of bullets ?

Yeah that came out of nowhere. I always thought he could redirect projectiles he threw himself, not just anything that was thrown at him. They’ve been under fire so many times, probably would’ve been useful to use that ability earlier.

I think overall all of their powers are just inconsistent and maybe they’re even supposed to be that way. Allison usually always has to say “I heard a rumour” but in the cafe scene she was just giving orders and the guy was doing everything she said. Vanya’s power is just... whatever they need it to be at that time. Even Five healed himself when he went back in time at the end. Didn’t know that was something he could do
Season 2 has certainly done a better job with the characters that weren't received as well first time around (even though I already liked most of them).

Quite a few people have mentioned that the music has gone a bit overboard this time. I can understand that as it's happening every other scene now lol. I like it myself, it makes it halfway towards being something like a musical. :cwink:

Haha, Olga. Ben's final scene was done well, even though I would have liked this version of him to hang around for future seasons. At least it will be fun to see the Sparrow version. A proper reunion and the family finally acting together is what I've been waiting for and I was really happy to see it. The final scene makes me want to binge season 3 right now haha.
I wouldn’t mind it half as much if it went all the way :funny:.
I also really wanted to see more of this Ben too. Ever since he appeared at the end of episode one in the first season, I thought he would have a major role to play but it seems they couldn’t figure out what to do with him other than being Klaus’s support. Even the possession abilities didn’t lead to much plot wise.

Fair enough, sorry I misread your earlier post. Hope you didn't read the spoilers.

No worries, I did read them but the trailer on Netflix that comes up when you hover over the show spoiled that part anyway, so I knew of it already.

Okay, so when it first aired I couldn't quite get into this show. I got about half way through the first season and just couldn't stick with it, and so have it a hard pass.

Until recently - for some reason. I caught up with season 1, and I'm now making my way through season 2. I wish I hadn't given up so quickly before as I'm thoroughly enjoying it this time around.

I am astounded though by how black and LGBT people are - or more specifically were (and in some cases still are) treated by the majority of people and those white privileged people.

I know this is obviously only a fiction show, but seeing those scenes which are largely based on a trie history actually kinda' sickens me. I'm glad that (for the most part at least) society has woken the hell up and become more accepting of difference.

This is a theory I found on another comic book discussion site/forum, so I can't take credit for it, but about the Sparrow Academy:

Someone noted that Harlan was last shown floating around a wooden carving of what could be a...sparrow.

So the speculation goes: He's the first one found by Reggie in the new timeline and establishes the Academy around him.

Which means that Harlan might just show up as an old man in S3.

I have to admit, that 2.7-10 was pretty entertaining

I can definitely see them doing that.

at first I was thinking, was this predestined to happen?
when they met their "father", again in the in the past, was that how he knew about when and where to find them/ when the world was going to end

then that twist ending
I was like so it was more like he learned who not to adopt this time around by meeting them in the past lol

this was an interesting season over all, not really what I excepted based on the first season final scene, but it was an intriguing concept nonetheless
maybe a little to preachy/political at times for my taste, cause I just more enjoyed the otter non-scent of the first season, that clearly set it in it's own weird/whimsical world, where this grounded it too much
but it was handled well

Otter Non-Scent... that's totally going to be my stripper name.

I binged both seasons over the past week and find the series to be surprisingly enjoyable. Few predictable bits here and there, but an interesting premise and strong production values helped out. Looking forward to the next season.

Finally finished watching it. I so agree season 2 is better than 1. So much fun

The only issue I have with season 2 is that Luther is a little bit underused and the ping ping of the other plots.

Watched it last week. I wasn't a huge fan of S1 and glossed over some bits, but S2 was much better. Pacing was good, all the characters got a fair bit of attention, the 60s setting was great and the time travel not too convoluted.

My only complaint was some inconsistency in the use of their powers. We have Luther in the opening taking a hit from a rocket launcher to his back and shrugging it off, yet in later episodes we see him getting pretty beat up in the ring by his opponent - who's pretty big, but nonetheless, a normal human.
