New Aliens vs Predator

Honestly...I'll probably hold off on it now. I'll still pick it up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this hit the 29-39 dollar range before to long.

Unless several other reviews hit and make the GI review look like trash...then, ok. But until then I think I'll hold off, maybe pick up Bioshock 2 instead.

Yea thats probably the safer route. I still hope there are a few more reviews as well, but i have really enjoyed what iv been playing. Unless the rest of the game is just absolute s**t(and having the Predators campaign be too stealthy is NOT going to make this game look worse in my eyes), then i should enjoy it. I mean im not even a fan of reg deathmatch but im just loving this demo.

No...I think some of his complaints were completely ******ed...but waiting to see what other reviews say about it would be the smart thing to do.

2nd, you are aware that Rebellion is responsible for the original critically and fan acclaimed Aliens vs Predator aren't you? Or are you just choosing to ignore that fact in order to support your judgement that you made before we ever saw the game in motion?
And that means what?
Sure, they made the original AVP on the PC, sure, they even made the first AVP game ever on the Atari Jaguar...so what?
AVP 2, made by much superior Monolith (F.E.A.R, No One Lives Forever, Condemned...) is 10 times the game the first is.
Like i said, the game can be great and the reviewer a tool, but just don´t hold your breath for it.

All the best for the people at Rebellion, but they really need to start anew, because all they release are crappy games or mediocre ones.

Also, 10 minutes with the demo isnt enough time to even familiarize yourself with the controls, for any of the characters.
I totally agree on that one, then again, if they wanted me to familiarize with the characters they should have released a SP demo.

People on AvPGalaxy have been posting screens of the Demo, this one just is just all kinds of awesome.

And you can't do it with the MP demo? I think it was the smarter way to go. You get to play with all 3 races and get to properly learn each races strengths, because your playing against other smart players.

You just seemed to block out everything Rebellion has done because of Rogue Warrior, which isnt a reflection of their studio. We have seen them make a good Aliens vs Predator before, im not going to count them out, yet.

As for the game being great, im not too worried. As iv said before, im having an absolute blast with the demo and thats an extremely limited portion of the title. If the campaigns are horrible, that wont matter to me as much due to the fantastic mp. And the campaigns being really poor are the only possible complaint i can see, based off the demo. There aren't any glaring gameplay flaws. The controls, while difficult to learn quickly, work very well for each species. The mp is extremely balanced.

Im really getting the hang of this game.

I got a really angry message from some dude who felt i was being cheap. I dont know, i guess using the Predators weapons is considered cheap. All i can say is dont charge the Predator from the front when he's rocking the plasma caster, cuz all ur gonna see are those 3 red laser lights, a flash, then ur head explodes.

lol, I love the losers who suck and send you messages on Live.

I've been trying to play the demo for awhile, but I can't seem to get a game going. :/

I don't know what exactly the problem is, but the matchmaking really takes a while. If you want I can add you to my friends list and then invite you into a game. Knowing lots of people seems to be the best way to get a game runnning. Since the demo, I added over a dozen new people to my list.

Ah, I see. Well, I'll add you since I see your PSN ID in your sig, and whenever I happen to be on again we can try it.

Yeah I've been trying to play on 360 for an hour now and I've only gotten into one match. It's pretty frustrating. So far I'm kind of on the fence with the game. As a Marine it seems like you can't aim worth a ****. It's a disorienting game

Iv never had a problem connecting to a game.

I also dont have any problems controlling the marine. Iv won multiple times with the marine. It was kind of odd not having an aim feature, but Left 4 Dead does the same thing so i guess im a little used to that. Once you get comfortable with all 3 species, the game flows really well. Im able to switch from any of the 3 species and pretty much win at will, altho its a helluva lot easier with the Predator, im pretty sick with that dude.

Oh the best one, that i still cant get over is this. Im in a full 8 man match, im controlling the Xenomorph. Im in the lead by a fairly wide margin and for one reason or another i keep killing the same guy who is controlling a marine. I end up getting the Persecutor message. Well the dude starts *****ing me out complaining that im camping on the walls too much. He keeps saying how much of a p***y i am because i keep killing him from above. He's like thats why you prob suck at Modern Warfare because you cant stick to walls. Haha im like yea i know, how dare the developers allow the Alien to stick to walls, what in the blue hell were they thinking. I love these tools who spend 90% of their Live time on Modern Warfare, they come into another title, get completely owned then start whining before they quit and go back to playing stale ol MW.

how do you pick your species??

When you get into the lobby with other players, press up to select the big box that has the picture of the selected species, then press A(360) for choose species. If another species is available, you'll be able to switch between them(this is designated by a small icon that represents each species, red is predator, blue is marine, green is alien, if one of these icons is greyd out, that means the species has reached its limit for the match). There is a limit however as to how many aliens, predators and marines can be in each game. For instance only 2 Predators are allowed per 8 man match(this is a selectable option that will be available in the full retail title however)

Played the demo, tried all three sides. Honestly I have to say I'm not that impressed. Multiplayer feels like a mess, it's really dark and I can barley tell what the hell is going on. The only fun I really had was playing as an Alien, I wanted to enjoy the other two but i couldn't figure out how to use the Predator weapons (my fault, not the games but the controls were wonky) and the human weapons just plain suck and aiming is not that great. I'm going to rent this game still because I want to play the story but I'll most likely stay far away from online. Though the Alien grab kills are awesome.

The Predator weapons are a bit difficult to use. You've got the Disc, Plasma caster, Mines and Combi-stick. The combi-stick and Disc require some practice. While you throw the Disc, it'll fly to wherever you look, so you can control it's flight path. It also ricochets off walls, so you could practically kill a corridor full of Aliens and Marines with one single Disc throw. The spear is only throwable and requires precise aim. The good thing about the spear is, it doesn't give your position away, because it doesn't activate your laser-sights.

The Plasma caster isn't recommended against Moving targets and it will only lock-on when you charge the shot. Mines don't require any explanation. But it's wise to drop them where Marines pick up their weapons.

While you target the enemy with any of your ranged weapons, you can cancel your action by tapping the focus button. So if your enemy went around a corner after you charged your shot, you don't have to waste it.

Close combat also requires tactics and a cool head, since you can't spam the attack button anymore.

As for the darkness, that's partially the selling point of the game, to create a sense of fear and terror. Also, Alien's require the shadows to hide, otherwise Marines would spot them from a mile away and gun them down. As a Marine you need to learn to read your Motion Detector. That thing is your biggest advantage, if you can read it properly, no one will be able to sneak up on you. I've seen people fire blind, relying on their motion detector and often enough hit a Predator that was standing cloaked in the shadows.

I didn't particularity find the game that dark, all three characters have vision mods.
The pre-order stuff is just re-skinned tat, wait to see what other reviews say, at the moment the game is still very appealing, the game informer review, true or not was pretty awful.

I keep seeing "the aiming is bad" complaint popping up here and there. I really don't understand it. Playing as a marine feels like any standard shooter to me and I've had zero trouble shooting enemies. The gun isn't going to aim itself. That's on you.

As a side note, I'm getting really tired of hearing people describe controls as "wonky". Not just in this game, but any game. Sometimes a game's controls are bad, but I feel most of the time when someone says the controls bad what they really mean is, "The controls are different than what I'm used to but I just don't feel like learning them."

I guess I'm just used to MW2 and being able to aim down the sights

I can't speak for myself, since I suck as the Marine, but I've been killed by other Marines literally in 1-2 seconds, as I was rushing them with the Predator. So much for bad aim.

Indeed. The Marine doesn't play much different from other shooting games, of course the Alien will be something you're not being used to and the Predator has mostly one-shot weapons that require a short cooldown, since you have to wait for the disc and spear to return, before you can use them again.

I guess I'm just used to MW2 and being able to aim down the sights

A standard FPS mechanic and I myself am surprised you can't do it in the game. But then again, you really wouldn't have much of a chance to use it, because Aliens and Predators will be up in your face like 90% of the time.

People complain about aiming because enemies usually catch them off guard and attack at close range and their screwed at that point. How much screwed you are depends on your knowledge of blocking light attacks, breaking heavy attacks, counters and your actual respond time/reflexes.
