New Devil May Cry 4 Hands on

Woman, I just saw the GT videoreview on Spike TV (8.6) and it looks pretty cool, but they said the enemies mostly just stand there and also, that Dante is much more interesting to control, with better fighting styles
I'm going to wait until it's cheaper :cmad:

GT >>>> 1up.

Hey got the game already. Jus to ruin your day: Dante becomes playable by Mission 12. Okay game so far. The Devil Bringer feels like Capcom's answer to Kratos' grabs though I do love the Grim Grip feature. Don't play on Human difficulty. Ruins the whole experience.

Nero is suddenly growing on me. Just so you know, I bought the game out of peer pressure. Had Tekken 6 been out by now on the PS3, I'd know exactly where to waste my money.

I got the Japanese version. Because the disc is Region Free (I think), it runs completely in English on my PS3. Completed it this morning on Human mode (easy). Playing as Dante was pretty fun especially when you get GILGAMESH, this melee Weapon which allows for some serious Shin-Shoryuken!

Major complaint though:
repetative boss fights. The four bosses: Berial, She-Viper, Ice Toad and Agnus you can fight up to 3 times throughout the game, twice with Nero, once with Dante. Maybe on Devil Hunter mode, they're a little harder. I just went through Human mode to breeze through the Puzzles. Now its time to break the combat system in thoroughly. Thankfully, Proud Souls (skill points) and Red Orbs are carried over between the two difficulties.

ah ok cool, i'll have to read that spoiler after ive done the game story lol

i know nothing about the story pretty much, which im really happy about considering that who nero is, is all over the net and ive avoided it luckly lol

4 days to go for me ! or 3 if GAME delivers early to me, like they always do lol :D

Trust me man, the story won't be the reason you'll be playing the game. And when playing as Nero, you'll have this sudden urge to go "GET OVER HERE!" Scorpion style:indy:

8.7, eh?
I'll have to see the video review...

You do that Gammy. Seriously, once I'm done with the game on Hard, I'm looking to sell or trade it. Maybe for DW6 or Unreal. To me its more of a solid 8 rather than an 8.7.

I'm not fully convinced I should pay 60 bucks for this.
I think I'll just get DMC3 instead, that one rocked.

I got the demo yesterday. Pretty dull all round. I know you shouldn't rate a game fully on the demo, but it seemed stilted, less organic than before.

In DMC3, I could run/flip/jump anywhere causing mayhem and racking up combos. But on the demo it seemed like the sword had no reach, the lone pistol lacked oomph and when I attacked it seemed like I was rooted to the spot. I had to run quite close to the target, root myself to the spot, then hack away.

I always liked DMC, but I'll give this a miss for a while.

The graphics where a bit dissapointing as well, just a high res DMC. The enemy models looked very un original.

Trust me, they aren't/ But the Demo's combat system is meant to be dulled down. In reality, once you master Nero's Devil Bringer (easy enough) and his Ex-Gauge (not so easy) you've got a whole new ball game.Playig through 2nd time around. Bosses are a wee bit tougher, especially Agnus.

I just thought the enemies in the demo were bland
Mannequinns? check. Mecha shaped Ice Knights? check. Ifrit rip off? check.

Also, whilst I recognise that it was just a demo and the moves list was understandably small, the actual movement and attacking seemed way too rigid and close. I dont understand how that would change for the main game.

The game play for this series is always fun and fast even if the story fall a little short.

Like I mentioned earlier, storyline will NOT be why you play this game unless you're one of those compulsive types who needs to know just who is Nero (which you won't be getting. Sorry Uchiha) or what happens to Dante.

Rimmer, its hard to explain but Nero's moves need to be bought and stuff to truly bring out the character's full potential. True, the game seems to be rigid but I think its done purposefully to allow the player more time to adapt to the character.

Now I do like my stories, my plots in games to be rich as I feel it helps a game in terms of depth. Don't get me wrong I have loved all DMC games 1 to 3 and I will play and love DCM4. It is what it is, a fast paced action button basher nothing more nothing less.

If it wants to become more it will need a better story unlees it wants to stay in the category.

I think Nero was meant to be that change. Dante's story is more or less done. Maybe Nero provides a sorta "Expanded Universe" into the DMC world.

Say it ain'ts so!!! I'd rather see more Dante next game, or at least an equal division of playing time for each. I'll have to see if Nero can hang with Dante, maybe he deserves his own game, then they can both reach their full potential. Nero is gonna need to find more weapons though, cuz two just won't cut it, especially when Dante had like ten weapons in DMC3, and even in 4 he has more weaponry, and he's just a side attraction they needed to have to call it DMC.
