Hard to look forward to this when there's 1000 exorcism movies in Tubi and i doubt this is much different, also this doesnt have that same grimey look and tone of the original. I dont see how this could be a trilogy.

Have you seen the original Exorcist recently? I would not describe it as having a "grimey look and tone" at all, aside from the content of the demonic sequences.

The OG Exorcist was shot like a straight drama with polish and some excellent cinematography.

Also, I've seen my fair share of terrible possession movies for the past 10+ years, this looks a cut above.

This honestly doesn’t look that exciting. It looks like it’s trying to have as many callbacks to the original as possible while also seemingly addressing some of the half backed ideas from the sequels.

I've had this same feeling since the trailer dropped. I've tried to ignore it but I just feel like this may not end up hitting the mark in the way it should. Unfortunately, so far it just looks like your average supernatural movie with nothing that really stands out about it.

Unfortunately I’m agreeing with everyone’s first reactions to the first two trailers. It seems like a total wasted opportunity to make something special when horror has been doing fantastic these last few years.

The first trailer I thought was okay, but this one just decreased my curiosity for this movie. It doesn't really look anything special.

I don't know, I still think it looks fine. My biggest critique so far is how much they're leaning in on the Regan imagery with the white girl. Like really? Some kid in this day and age is still wearing those nightgowns? That feels a little too desperate.

I think the subgenre itself kinda sucks too. There's only two movies like this that have ever worked for me and that's the original Exorcist and John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. The latter being a Lovecraftian horror movie disguised as a possession movie.

I won't watch the new trailer, considering trailers for horror movies notoriously show a lot, but I'll give the movie a watch if I see it at my local library or it ends up on Netflix or Prime.

Personally, I'm hopeful for this and think it could be good, or at least one of the better in-franchise Exorcist films (which isn't a very high bar). On its surface, Exorcist: Believer does seem like a generic legacy sequel that ticks all the usual legacy sequel boxes, but it all comes down to execution.

Other than the incredible and iconic original film, I also love The Exorcist III and I think it was a very worthy and unique follow up to the original. It thankfully ignored the garbage Heretic sequel. And while interesting to watch the two versions of the prequel film (The Beginning/Dominion) to see the differences, neither of them were any good.

The TV series, however, was surprisingly very good and proved that there is still some life in this original franchise if handled correctly. Really wish that series has gone on longer.

I would be ok with the trailers, but reports about multiple negative test screenings and changes in the film don't instill me with confidence.

I prefer what we’ve been seeing with horror movies that have religious themes and subtexts but have strayed away from being straight up possession movies. Saint Maud, The Witch, and Sinister are some of the best recent examples. But for all we know these trailers could all be a marketing strategy by the studio to play on the familiar scenes and shocking moments of the original, but the actual product could be a Halloween Kills situation.

As someone who isn’t into exorcism type of films as has never seen The Exorcist. This does look kinda generic. And it bites because there was some era, I can’t remember the years, where every single horror film was a possession (whether it be demons or aliens) type movie and every trailer was cut the same way. The trailer I saw for this, seems like it could be dropped in that era so it ends up looking meh.



I hope it works out for Leslie Odom Jr’s sake

Just rewatched The Exorcist III for the first time in awhile and man, this movie is fire. Great slow burn (perhaps a bit too slow in parts), love the murder mystery element, and it has great connective tissue to the original. Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it.
