Superman Returns New interview with mike dougherty, now Iam worried the space journey left out?

i thought that in the first teaser they showed superman going through the remains of krypton with the flashlight

So, why is this chapping your ass so bad? Again--Daniel is fine with it. I'm fine with it. We're enjoying ourselves DISCUSSING A MOVIE on A MOVIE DISCUSSION BOARD. AND, on top of that, it was GOOD DISCUSSION.

You're getting your nipples in a twist for, what again?

Is having a discussion on this board THAT bad a prospect?

LMAO at ^

Take a chill pill, sit back in front of your monitor and continue what you so ably mention you were doing! Dont mind me, im just an amateur of filmaking that just happens to dissagree with a filmaker's decision. It's all good Fatboy...

Btw, nice title ;)

Dude, I'm fine. Chill pill not needed. You and whatshisname were the ones getting all pinched off about me and Daniel talking movies.

But if I can get you to laugh, hey, the more the merrier. I thought it was funny that you seemed so amazed at your ability to leave the computer for 3 hours and that the world hadn't stopped while you were gone :)

Nah , only thing that bugged me FR is you "seemed" to insist that this change is not bad. To each their own opinions man. It wont ruin the movie and im shure i didnt say such a thing but for ME it would have made a difference. It would have been a plus for the film and its pace/story. Hopefully they include it on the damn DVD that's oh-so-far-away!

Hey, I'll admit, if this f**ker doesn't show up on the DVD, THEN I'll be disappointed. It always promised to be a pretty cool scene, I remember describing it to some people at work and they all nodded and thought that'd be great to see on a big screen. I don't think the change is bad as far as the story goes, but hopefully we get a loaded 2 disc DVD straight off the bat, and I'd like to pop in the alternate opening--or maybe even have it offered via seamless branching on the main feature.

This whole scene being gone, I have one problem with, and it's that it supposedly explains why he's so exausted from the flight home because he was dodging asteroids or something while up there in space. It's in the book thread, someone said he has trouble on the flight at some point. After landing he's exausted and like in the pics we have from the landing scene, he's near death and laying in his mom's arms. I don't know how they explained superman being tired after a space flight though. He's superman.

What did the book say about his space journey? Especially about how he has encounters with asteroids.

oh and this thread's like one huge lesson in social psychology. snooch.

I have to ask, does Bryan Singer have the habit of packing his DVD's in extra's? Deleted scenes and alternate material? I shure hope so. Im the type of person that would love to see every frame shot, even if its a 5h movie. I just love seing what they come up with, the visuals, angles, color hue etc.

He doesn't pack em as full as say, the guys who do Ridley Scott DVD's, but Singer's DVD's are typically pretty decent as far as the special features go. Hell, the soundtrack is gonna have a bonus video segment on it, so I'd think we're going to at least get some deleted scenes and such.

Singer did, however, contribute to the Usual Suspects Laserdisc and DVD, and both of those were considered REALLY well done DVD's at the time. So he does have the inclination to get a good DVD Producer and contribute.

Well, i still think its a bad decision to cut this scene. Movies are supposed to be watched on the big screen, not on a DVD at home. However, i`ll wait for the movie to actually see how that plays out. If i think the story doesn`t work and that scene was really missing, i`ll say it.

I don't understand how deleting this sequence is going to have any affect on the storyline whatsoever. It seems like a sequence that should have been axed in the script itself, and would only make for a really nice visual.

If i think the story doesn`t work and that scene was really missing, i`ll say it.

That's an understatement, Dan :)

The DVD is a decent consolation prize. And, not to get hopes up, but if they DO add a seamless branching choice to watch the ORIGINAL intro on the DVD, well hey--best of both worlds--the version you get to watch for the rest of your life on DVD is the version you wanted in the first place.

How are you going to say it would have been a plus for the pace of the film when you haven't even seen the pace of the finished film? There's a chance that such a scene might slow down the forward momentum from the beginning and prove to be too much exposition.

hey Superboard, I know this is really off topic, but this board is one of my mainstays, been around long before Singer and I'll be around long after the movie comes out, many of you know me and we're doing this thing in community, if you could take out a few seconds and vote for me I'd appreciate it, especially because the guy I'm going against thinks SR look horrible and bashes it every chance he gets...;)

the scene was important enough for the script. it was important enough tha tthey fiomed teh scene. and it was important enough that they made the CGI.

why now delete it? i guess singer has nothing to do with this. and if you think about it if they cut a scene like this out god help us what else will they do.

Dude, if filmmaking ever followed that logic ever, you'd never have an editor. Ever. The profession would automatically cease to exist because everything you write and everything you film automatically fits and locks in perfectly with no questions

and that's not how creating stories works.

i know that but still they made the effects right? or am i wrong?

what a waste of money and talent (poor CGI guys) if Singer dropped those scenes.

i dont understand why did he make that decision so late. yes some scene are cut out. but so late? after the effects were made?
thnk god that ottman didnt make the music.

so how much is the budget now? i am talking about CGI effects that were done but will nto be in teh movie ;).

Listen!!!... They have included the KRYPTON THEME on the album. Why would they use the Krypton theme, if Krypton wasn't at least seen ONES in this movie (or what's left of it!)... I just dont buy the fact that they've made a huge set, AND DISPLAYING THE DOME (from STM!) if they weren't sure that it would be seen in the film! Seeing the Dome ones again would surdently give a beautiful connection to the first Donner film, and that MUST be in order!!! ...

Besides, in the teaser, we see the spacescraft flying through the canyons of Krypton, for petes sake!!! We even see in one of the blogs, that Singer is sitting in front of the computer directing this very sequence, og how he wants it to look. We hear him talk about it! ALSO, need I remind you people that the scene of supes in the spaceship flying through the remains of Krypton, was ALSO shown at ShoWest!!

We WILL see this... I dont know for how long, but we will see SOMETHING... If I see the Dome and a little of Supes flying near Krypton, I'm happy... than I dont mind if the rest is explained! But we better see something.

well, in the original, they played the Krypton theme when the fortress of solitude was being formed...so who knows? It may have something to do with the Fortress, the spaceship crashing...maybe even with Superman because he's KRYPTONIAN, showing even more how he understands that he's not one of us.

^yeah well, it's also playing on the freaken website when it opens up... This just can't be... We must see SOMETHING from Krypton... and as weird as this may sound, I DON'T believe Dougherty!!! We've seen too much and heard too much from sneak previews and such, so I refuse to believe it.. we must see something from Krypton.

I believe that we'll see superman flying through the remains of Krypton, and I also believe that we'll see the Dome! They're so freaken stupid if they dont show this!!!!!!!!... what he was actually doing there is another case. That I dont mind if we are only told about... but we damn better see that much. It's shown in the teaser that he flies in the spaceship near Krypton... that's to much of a question mark for people, if we all of the sudden dont see that in this film. So Dougherty, with all do respect: Kiss my ass!
