Is that picture professional concept art?

seriously it looks way too good to be uh, non-professional

Make 'em look like this and we're in business.

I don't like that.

we all know that the new suits would look better. if you look at hellboy movies you see that they know have better materials.
i say body suits. for the head they should use a fake head but hten in post production they should use CGI to make better expressions.
with CGI you have 100% control. with a fake head you have at least 50 -40 %.
and they use animatronics today for monsters that dont have a lot to say.

Yes with the why movie creature costumes are today we could get a very good looking turtle body suit going. I would love to see hellboy 2 scale suits for any new live action turtle film. As for the heads i totally agree a mix of an actual face mask/cgi enhancements and animatronics could work out very well.

i saw hellboy yesterday. Perlmans body suit looked great. they could do a turtle suit. but it had to be mroe shiny since turtles are always wet right?

Laird Talks TMNT Live Action/CG Hybrid
Source:MTV
September 9, 2008

MTV alerted us they have an update on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project, which will actually be a live action/CG hybrid:

Kevin Eastman's much-discussed rumor of a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may have been quickly shot down last week, but that's not the end of this story.

TMNT co-creator and owner Peter Laird has confirmed to MTV News that he is close to a deal for a live-action/CGI hybrid "TMNT" feature film, and that he'd like to get "TMNT" voice actors Chris Evans and Sarah Michelle Gellar back..."but this time in the flesh."
Eh, so this means they're going with the Hulk/King Kong route. Not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this. The budget would have to be good if we're to expect quality cg turtles. Then again, this wouldn't be an issue if they'd just go with modern puppetry/rubber suits again.

The puppet suits were extremely limited in what they could do, and there were way too many camera tricks that had to be put into play to do it. We were little kids then, of course we ate it up because we were seeing the Turtles in real life. But as nostalgic as we are, if they still used those suits with the limited animatronics and didn't incorporate any CG, we'd say they should have done more, as they did with The Thing in FF...who should have been fully CG as well.

Need to find that balance.

As I said though, the budget would have to be good. I'm talking 120+ million here, at least. With the subpar business that TMNT did, I just do not think they'll get that type of money to make astounding cgi creations.

There's much less of a risk factor by going with the puppets and suits. I understand that by today's standards, the old movie suits look a bit dated. But they're not horrendous. I've watched clips of those movies and they look fine. Given all the tools we have NOW, who says we can't make that work for a modern age?

Sounds good to me.

I don't know about Gellar as April or Evans as Casey, but frankly, I don't care either. I just want to see a dark PG-13 turtles movie.

How would you guys feel if it was in black and white like the original comics?

What if Frank Miller directed? (Sorry, went too far there)

I would love for it to be PG-13 but wouldn't be surprised at all if they are aiming for PG which would suck.

im juiced for the project but like LAird said its still in its early stages alot can change

I like the idea of really well-done body suits for actors/stuntmen. However, there's a certain quilaty to the Turtles, both in poise and movement, that is extremely difficult to duplicate with humans in suits. That was something I thought the 2007 movie captured very well. I would hope that Laird and the director talk to the other directors who have juggled creature effects with such success. GDT and PJ are at the top of that list, but I think Jon Favereau has a firm grasp on this kind of film as well (as evidenced by Zathura and Iron Man).

In response to some of the other things said in the MTV News interview, it seems like Laird has his finger on our collective pulse as to what we want. I don't know about Evans and Gellar reprising their roles. I like them both, so I won't pass any negative judgement and remain optimistic by default. I was most excited about his comments regarding what he'd personally like out of a new DVD for the 1990 film. A director's cut and digital tune-up of the footage is pretty much all I would want from that sort of product.

i don't want evans but casey jones needs to be in this.

and as i've said, i'd kill for a directors cut and maybe some commentary for the original

The puppet suits were extremely limited in what they could do, and there were way too many camera tricks that had to be put into play to do it. We were little kids then, of course we ate it up because we were seeing the Turtles in real life. The Thing worked great in FF

^Somewhat, though he could have stood a little polish.

Regarding the TMNT thing, I know in the cartoons and comics it's done for artistic license, but would you prefer they have pupils in the new movie or just have white eyes without pupils, to showcase that they are in fact mutants? I know the 2007 flick didn't do that, so i would be more inclined for the former, but who knows.

YESSSS, huge fan of the first. 2nd was ok too. 3rd was crap.

The 2nd one was too much on the cartoony side, but still fun. But I don't know what happened to the 3rd Movie, that one was terrible. It would really be great if we get another movie like the 1st one, but without the whole runaway kids nonsense.

And a mix between animatronics and CGI would really be awesome.

If the revamp this put in Shredder, Krang, the Foot and Bebop and Rockstedy. Its time to see the real turtles on the big screen.

I can do without Krang and especially Bebop and Rocksteady. I just want a Movie like the first one, just better in every aspect and more mature. Then in sequels they should explore the more sci-fi and fantastical aspect with the Utroms, time travel, all other kinds of space aliens, parallel dimensions, etc. I wonder if we ever get to see Yojimbo in a Turtles Movie. I'd really love that.

oh man, if they have shredder. Wow, im gonna nerdgasm.

1st movie came out when I was a kid and was a huge part of my young life at the time (can't believe I actually bought the 'Turtle Rap' on 7" single)

Re-visited it the other month and the henson suits still hold up imo; given that suit/prosthetic technology has evolved in leaps and bounds since - I imagine that they could create something really visually amazing.

Not to mention it would be cheaper than CGI.
