new Prey reboot

Got two articles from the same place.

Based on the recently released demo.

Bethesda and Arkane Studios are on the cusp of releasing their Prey reboot to the world, and to get the masses excited, they released a demo of the first hour of the game last week. Now that gamers and media types alike have had a chance to give it a test run, opinions both positive and negative are beginning to pop up around the internet. Digital Foundry took the time to make a comparison video of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game (PC players didn't get a demo) to take a hard look at performance.
It's especially notable because Prey was built in Cry Engine, which doesn't have the greatest history when it comes to console releases. Overall, Prey's technical performance is pretty sound from a resolution and framerate perspective, despite some controller lag on the PS4 version and a weird audio quirk.
Here's the video.

As far as the gameplay goes, Prey is very much a Shock clone if the first hour is anything to go by. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the game echoes aspects of one of gaming's greatest, System Shock, but seems to be content with sticking to the formula.

We assume the full game will perform similarly.

Prey releases this week on PS4, Xbox One and PC. We got a look at the demo for Prey this week for PS4 and Xbox One. Digital Foundry worked their magic and compared the two versions and their performance.
First, the quick and dirty stats: The game runs at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One. The demo didn't have PS4 Pro support, so comparison of that version will have to wait until full release. The game ran at a solid 30fps with some hiccups on the Xbox One side for one area of the demo.

[YT]L4A5mCXVYTk[/YT]
The two versions of the game may look very similar, but there were some input latency issues on PS4. Luckily, Bethesda was on the ball when their community lead responded to a NeoGAF thread on the matter.
“To address input lag, the fix within the final release in the game changes the raw input curve on the PS4 controller to be more responsive at the low end, and to tweak responsiveness to the center point on the controller (narrowing the dead zone.). The net result is faster/more responsive movement.”
Prey releases in full on May 5 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

I find it incredibly depressing that aside from zenith16's updates (which are greatly appreciated BTW), this thread has been a ghost town even after an amazing demo was released.

I find it incredibly depressing that aside from zenith16's updates (which are greatly appreciated BTW), this thread has been a ghost town even after an amazing demo was released.
it might cause there are other things on other player list of game that mostly want to play more then this or they aren't feeling the makers of this game ether . And yes I'm suspecting me being issue as well.

point is people will talk when they feel like it or if they find something of interest to them nothing will hold them back. I've seen when new people finally spoke on a thread and after picking up a game. And I don't like spooking them.

Tidying up the anticipated return of Prey.

Bethesda and Arkane Studios have already set up the day-one Prey patch 1.01 for PS4. It fixes a number of issues, ironing out the title for release.
The patch notes were posted on the Gamefaqs forum, and detailed below. It's about 1.3GB in size and includes various fixes and improvements all over. The patch size on PC and Xbox One is unknown currently, but most likely will be similar.
The common audio issue has been addressed where booming, epic music plays even when there's a small, unimposing enemy about. Eurogamer noted:
"Another issue that deserves a mention centres on the audio mix. The music here is excellent but its usage is often grating with a loud battle tune kicking in whenever an enemy shows up. Even if it’s just a single mimic that you can kill in seconds, the booming music continues for a while – an overblown dramatic effect for what is effectively a routine in-game skirmish. It spoils the mood somewhat and becomes annoying after a while. Thankfully, as with the control issue, the team has heard the feedback and is looking at addressing this design quirk"
The input lag on PS4 has yet to be noted, but it's a common issues among users. The game is slated for release later this week on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Hopefully, the input lag can be rectified by then, or soon after.

A speed runner may have beated Prey in 20 minutes, but for those of us who take their time and experience games, the save corruption problems some people are experiencing can really hinder the experience. That is, until now.
Bethesda and Arkane Studios have released Prey patch 1.2 on Steam for PC players. The patch addresses various issues, including the above mentioned corrupted game saves that have been reported. Beyond that, the update offers some GLOO fixes, as well as tweaks to Nightmares.
This update is only for PC players, but a comprable update will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One soon. It's been estimated to be as soon as next week. Don't forget to take a look at our spoiler-free Prey review if you haven't picked it up yet.The full patch notes can be found below:
The Steam update v1.2 includes:

 • Fix to prevent Save games from becoming corrupted. Fix also returns corrupted Save games to uncorrupted state.
 • Also addresses some additional crashes on map loads.
 • Hacking during the Power Plant reboot no longer causes the reboot to fail to complete.
 • Fix to prevent the Player from becoming stuck in certain circumstances.
 • Nightmares will now always search for the player once spawned.
 • Saving and Loading PC settings will now save correctly for users with special characters in their Windows usernames.
 • Numerous fixes to GLOO to prevent breaking and bypassing collision, prevent corpses from passing through walls and floors.
 • Updated Recycling to prevent infinite material creation.
 • Fix for occasional combat freeze when attacking Phantoms
 • Kaspar’s objective indicator should no longer disappear.
 • Updates to audio mix to adjust volume of music, audio logs, cutscenes.
Note – If a Save file has been previously edited manually, it may not function properly. Deletion of level.dat files may cause game progression to not function properly.

More reason to shake your head.

While many gamers around the world are currently enjoying the reimagining/reboot of Prey, there is a relatively large sect of gamers that are still longing for the canceled sequel that was a clear evolution of the 2006 original. Not to take anything away from Arkane's vision of Prey, 3D Realms' follow-up was playing with a lot of different game mechanics, and apparently had quite a story that was able to tie gaming's oldest mechanic into its narrative in a gruesomely brilliant way.
In the latest episode of Eurogamer's Here's a Thing YouTube series, Chris Bratt shared some insights from conversations he had with the studio's former developers.
Here's the video:
[YT]0KcV3O_SODk[/YT]

The headliner of Bratt's story is how Prey 2 was going to handle the act of dying and respawning. At a certain point, the player would meet Tommy, the protagonist from the original game, and while the meeting would go over as if the two were complete strangers, it would end up turning out that your character has met him before...many times. As it turns out, the player character, Killian would have his consciousness transferred to a clone upon death and would wake up back in his apartment every time.
On top of that, once the player reached the final area of the game, they would be greeted by stacks of Killian clone corpses, representing all of the lives they had spent to get to this point, plus the ones from before the beginning of the story. The finale saw Killian get shot out into space, only to teleport himself back to Earth at the last possible moment.
We would then see a montage of Killian settle down, get married, raise a family, and eventually die of old age in a hospital bed. When your flat line, the screen fades to white, and you wake up back in the apartment you spent the entire game respawning in, in the body of yet another clone.
Crazy stuff.
On top of that, Gameplay Programmer, Norm Nazaroff lamented the missed opportunity that the Prey 2 team had to impact the industry in terms of gameplay. He said:
"You look at the most recent Call of Duty game, you look at Titanfall, and it feels like we were a little bit ahead of our time there. We were doing a lot of this stuff six or seven years ago and ultimately the industry has gone in that direction. It's just too bad that we didn't get to have it out there first."
It's hard not to agree with Nazaroff. Oh, the things that could have been.

Prey free update and DLC ‘Mooncrash’ now available, multiplayer update ‘Typhon Hunter’ announced
Published 7 hours ago. 3 comments.
More Prey available now.

Prey-Mooncrash_06-10-18.jpg

Bethesda Softworks announced several updates for Prey during its E3 2018 press conference, including a new update that adds three free modes and the standalone downloadable content Prey: Mooncrash, which are available now, and the upcoming multiplayer experience Prey: Typhon Hunter.

Here are the details, via Bethesda Softworks:
? Free Update (Available Now)
Tonight’s free update for all Prey owners introduces three new ways to play: Story Mode, Survival Mode, and New Game +. Current players can update their game now and start playing these new modes immediately.
? Prey: Mooncrash ($19.99 – Available Now)
About
Fight overwhelming odds to escape a secret TranStar moon base where the enemies you encounter, the hazards you face, the goals you complete, and the loot you collect are different each time you play. With changing environments as dangerous as they are dynamic, the Mooncrash campaign for Prey will offer a fun, infinitely replayable challenge to test even the most skilled players.
Story
In Prey: Mooncrash, TranStar’s secret moon base stopped transmitting shortly after the events of Prey. Now Peter, a hacker stationed aboard a spy satellite tasked with intercepting TranStar communications, must find out why. Trapped and under a ruthless contract with KASMA Corp, Peter’s only hope of ever seeing his family again is uncovering the moon base’s lost secrets.

 • Live. Die. Adapt. Escape! – Escape TranStar’s moon base before the Typhon threat takes over. A simple goal, but one with hundreds of viable solutions. In Mooncrash, players will experience an all-new, infinitely replayable, ‘rogue-lite’ campaign with ever-changing enemies, weapons and objectives against a constantly increasing alien threat.
 • Survive How You Want with Who You Want – Unlock multiple characters as you play, each with their own set of specialized, upgradable skills. Will you forge your path with the resourceful engineer Joan, trade that wrench in for Security Officer Bhatia and his shotgun, or will you choose the frail-but-gifted Andrius and his arsenal of psychic abilities? Prey is about choices, and those choices belong to you.
 • Search for Secrets, Loot…and a Way Off – Arkane Studios’ talent for detail and story-rich environments comes alive in Mooncrash. As you explore the station, which is the same size and scope of four levels of the original game’s Talos I station, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for precious supplies – and, of course, Mimics.
 • New Challenges, New Solutions – The Typhon threat has returned with familiar foes and tough new enemies, each armed with a unique set of deadly characteristics. Use the full power of the arsenal at your disposal, including popular weapons and abilities from Prey’s main game, to fight for your life and make a mad dash for your escape.
? Digital Deluxe Edition ($39.99)
Prey is a first-person sci-fi action game from Arkane Studios, the award-winning creators of the Dishonored franchise. Known for their creative gameplay, distinctive worlds, and immersive stories, Arkane reimagines this franchise from the ground up, with an added psychological twist. Prey Digital Deluxe includes both Prey and the brand-new expansion, Prey: Mooncrash.

I only just started playing this yesterday. Been working my way through my game collection. Barely past the tutorial stage and still working my way through the early part. I don't even have a proper gun yet. Just a gloo gun.
