Good point. His performance will be great I'm sure, but Oscar worthy? I don't know.
The Academy doesn't know what they're doing though. They don't always reward the people who deserve it. Look at De Niro, in no sane world could they not give him the Oscar for his role in Taxi Driver.
So, it's not a case of Ledger not being worthy, it's whether that cadre of old men will get what he's doing. And being old men they probably won't.

 Awesome that he still works without a second unit. I guess he still has the indie director thing in him, which is really refreshing.
