News flash!

I'd guess Lex. I can't see Penn as Zod no matter how hard I try. Shame, I think he'd have made a great Lex.

Then again, I think he plays a military commander in that new movie he's got coming out with Christian Bale, so who knows. Maybe he could have pulled it off.

Then again... maybe Penn was in talks to play Superman, before Cavill signed on. He does have the crazed eyes of a killer, you know. ;)

Too old for Lex, no? I'm guessing Perry White.

If there's an origin it must be flashbacks.

I don't think they would have went after a guy like Penn for Perry. Although Perry is an essential character, realistically, he'll probably only have about 10 total minutes of screentime. Penn is a guy you get for a major role.

I agree, he's a little old for the (current) comic version of Lex but I think in all of the film/TV versions, Lex has been cast at least a little older than Supes, even in Smallville.

When Snyder said they were making this movie as if there had never been a Superman movie made before it, I don't know how people thought it wouldn't be an origin.

Is This The Officially Registered Plot Premise For The Man Of Steel?

A lot of the data and information on movies that ends up online and in print seems to have its roots in The Baseline Studio System. Once upon a time, in the misty history of 2009, back when nobody knew what the Shyamalan-scripted Devil was going to be about, I found its “top secret synopsis” listed as Baseline data. Their blurb proved to be 100% accurate.

Several other times I’ve seen casting listed that has gone on the become news breaks in the trade papers a few days or weeks later. I’m pretty sure that Baseline Studio System data has a very high accuracy rate, even with things that remain unreported on the “surface” of the media.

So, now that I see they’re listing a plot premise for The Man of Steel, I’m inclined to believe they’ve got it right.

Here’s what they say, word for word:
A young reporter named Clark Kent roams the world covering various news stories. When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, he returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be.
Yep, it’s an expanded version of something we’ve heard before, a few words from a well discussed “casting breakdown” for the film. I never managed to get my hands on that breakdown, but I know some reputable people who vouched for it existing.

It looks to me like Warner Bros. registered some details of the film, most likely with casting services who fed it to Baseline, somehow, but have since decided to play coy. I’d be prepared to make a reasonable sized bet on the above being the film’s story.

I don’t think it’s locked, I just like the odds. A lot.

The next puzzle would be ‘What does Zod have to do with all this?’

There’s probably something thematic going on about corrupt dictatorial leaders and warring factions of the same populace, on Krypton as much as in Africa, but we still don’t have any indication as to how these pieces of plot might fit together.

It’s Sunday tomorrow, and Sunday always seems to bring some Superman press release or another. Maybe we’ll get a good beam of light shone on something big this time.

Well, if it follows Birthright, then Clark of course already knew of Lois, but once the Planet hires Clark, we learn that Lois has read his articles in the African newspapers and journals and is impressed with his writing...and puzzled that such a nebbish produced it. So it adds a little context to their first meeting, plus it establishes a resume of previous work by Clark, and it shows that he is indeed an excellent reporter. I think that Lois is going to be important in this movie-and by important, I don't mean just as the love interest. Lois is important because she believes in Superman and she became a reporter for similar reasons to why Superman has chosen a life of service. Lois believes in a lot of the same ethical things as Superman, but years of life and of covering a world that seems devoid of hope have made her lose faith in people. Superman justifies Lois' belief in a better world, and gives her hope when she had almost lost it. In many ways, Lois represents the audience. She gives and face and a name to the world when it first encounters Superman. Because if Superman were real, then the world would be a completely different place after he began his career. I'm not a big supporter of Superman as a Christ figure since his creators were Jews, but it's still hard to deny that one could easily classify the history of world where Superman exists as Before Superman and After Superman.

If it's real, it's interesting that it doesn't mentioned metropolis or zod at all.

also, REALLY hoping clark doesn't know lex from smallville, and with time constraints, it looks like that may be the case

Sorry guys, but has anybody else had trouble with **************.com? I haven't been able to access it all day. It comes up with an error message that says I can not view the page with the 'credentials' I have supplied. :/

we aren't allowed to post links from there anyways. garbage site.

The Moses myth-parallels to Superman are well recognized and probably had a bit more resonance for S&S. In any case, they lived in a predominantly “Christian” milieu and wouldn’t have been immune to its cultural influence. Indeed, Donner and Singer were inspired to make the Christ metaphor even more explicit – and they, likewise, are both Jewish.

Cheers,

The Comic Book Gods came down from the heavens and smote it.
Consider it a blessing!

Again, I really believe that the Superman=Christ metaphor and the "big blue boyscout" die, at least outside of comics, on May 13 on the Smallville Season Finale.
They are going to make Superman "relevant and modern" and that means out with the dated Jesus similitude.
This is 2011 not 1951.

Not sure how reliable this site is, but it does sound plausible. Writer says he can't "bank" on the info.

BaseLineResearch.com, a "professional" movie and tv database listing site, has a description listed for the upcoming Man of Steel, according to Bleeding Cool.

"A young reporter named Clark Kent roams the world covering various news stories. When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, he returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be."

Now, that sounds a lot like Superman: Birthright, the 12 issue comic written by Mark Waid and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu. If Zack Snyder plays off that, I'll be one happy super fan. This saw Superman fend off a Kryptonian alien invasion with Lex Luthor heavily involved. Actually, there is a bit more to it than that, but if you decide to give it a read (highly recommended for any Superman fan), I don't want to spoil.

Speaking of spoilers, my source close to the production of the Man of Steel, who told me about Krypton and Lindsay Lohan's role, offered up the following details.

Along with Zod and Faora, the Kryptonian scientist Jax-Ur will be in the movie. (In the comics, Jax-Ur is responsible for the destruction of the Kryptonian moon which causes Braniac to take notice of Krypton - which fits in with what I was told about setting up Braniac as the potential villain in the sequel, if one is made).

The three are trapped inside the Phantom Zone and work their way out. They home in on Kal-El's craft that landed in Smallville and make their way to Earth.

The three Kryptonians integrate themselves into human society where Zod grows a deep hatred for the humans as he feels they are destroying the planet. With this view of the humans "wasting their perfect planet," the Kryptonians then begin to formulate a plan to make a better Krypton.

Zod wants to make Earth the New Krypton, using Faora to start the new Kryptonian bloodline and using Jax-Ur to accelerate human technology though LexCorp, which is the most advanced company on the planet, run by Lex Luthor.

Enter General Samuel Lane.

Earlier it was reported that Alberta, Canada lost the filming location due to not having the right military equipment. Aircraft Carriers and things of that nature were cited, with Chicago reportedly having the necessary vehicles.
General Lane will be leading Earth's defense against Zod, Faora and Jax-Ur -- and also Superman. Just as Zod's hatred for humans grows, Lane's hatred for aliens does, as well, - and this applies to Superman.

I've been told Jeff Bridges and Ed Harris are being looked at for the role of General Lane.

I've also been hearing different things back and forth as the script is getting rewritten. Earlier I stated that Braniac destroys Kandor, but that doesn't seem to be the case (which fits in more with Jax-Ur, actually) with the latest script. However, Braniac is still set to be involved with Krypton's destruction.

Again, I can't bank on any of this info, so keep that in mind.

Sounds like someone who had not been online in awhile explored the various Superman man of steel internet discussion boards, took all the plot rumors we've gotten in the last year, got drunk, and then decided to put them all together as one incoherent story for fanboy consumption.
Heh.. this clown is even touting he knows who the villain is going to be in the sequel to Man of Steel..:lmao:

I did not see Metallo mentioned, so it must not be true!

So this Lohan thing just won't die. So it's Lana that she's up for according to multiple sites around the net. You guys... I'm starting to think... this might be for real?? She's supposed to see Clark perform one of his Super saves. I'm not going to link anything right now though. But what if...

Well, sometimes, there's no smoke without fire...

I mean, she could well have auditioned for Lana but never got the job.

She's pretty high profile, so her doing something as little as auditioning is obviously going to spread like wildfire.

Who knows?

I'm not going to lose sleep over this stupid rumor.

Jax-Ur and Brainiac, I like. General Lane, I don't like. Don't really believe it though.

I wouldn't be shocked is Lolo's people have tried to get her involved in Superman as a way a "cleaning up" her image and giving her a platform to make a comeback but something tells me WB doesn't wanna go anywhere near her.

As for the BleedingCool rumors , I do like the idea of Harris or Bridges being involved , though I think it would be cool to have Harris as Lane and Bridges as Perry White.
