News flash!

wait a minute, so the failure of SR was because Superman didn't throw punches?

He saved Metropolis from an Earthquake
He lifted a city sized rock and pushed away from earth
Saved a plane

What did GL do, didn't do any saves and [blackout]tricked diarrhea Parallax into the Sun[/blackout]

So, i think Superman Returns was a good enough movie, not the best, and it wasn't the best because he didn't throw punches, it's because the movie was slow and boring as ****, Singer ****'ed it up.

GL just didn't know what it wanted to be, was it a comedy, drama, dramedy, action film? It was all over the place
Agreed. While I think both movies were good it is very hard to call Superman Returns a failure when most comic movies after it have had trouble aside from Iron Man and Batman of coming close to its numbers. Yes it disappointed some fans but it wasn't a flop considering it was carrying the price tag from all the other failed Superman Projects as well. GL to me was a good movie but very forgettable mainly because it couldn't find it's identity. To me it seemed like it was trying to hard to be a copy of Iron Man than being it's own movie. Say what you want about Superman Returns but it got great reviews by both critics and fans. GL isn't. If it does get a sequel GL needs to become it's own movie and not a copy of Iron Man.

Better example: I have a feeling I'll be laughing my ass of, like a giddy school-girl, during the climax of the new Transformers-movie, because of the crazy amount of overwhelming visuals just working to melt my face.

But yeah, a BIG NO! to forced or campy humor, just throwing it in there to keep the movie from getting too serious. I'd almost rather have a flat out comedy then.

Exactly. I didn't care for Transformers, but you understand what I am trying to say. You understand that something that is pretty amazing to see can make people laugh out of excitement or make you feel giddy. It happens all the time in sports when nothing funny at all has happened.

A player pulls off an amazing shot like Michael Jordan's switching hands in mid-air, or any of these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26-QIC41i84http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWOJz4mZ_7o and people laugh and feel giddy but he didn't tell a joke in the air. Nothing campy happened.

It just happened, I remember watching these two moments live at the arena and I laughed even though nothing funny had happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4hCBx-3EWU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwZV_5WB3E&feature=related

Things that make you laugh for the same reasons that makes us laugh or feel giddy are great. Things that try to make you laugh by being corny, campy, silly, funny, stupid like Lois Lane fainting unrealistically, and Ottis tripping over his own shoe laces and Luthor being an idiot are not so great. In fact, I feel embarrassed watching things like that.

In my opinion what made sr boring wasn't the visuals or lines it was the lack of charisma from everyone but spacey. Routh is just dull he has monotone emotions and is just very boring to watch. Whenever i saw superman i wasn't like awe yeah *****ing superman! i was like oh ok hes flying oh hes lifting a rock made from the rock that kills him oh he can do mris with his eyes oh hes getting beat up by normal people wtf...anyways I think they just went threw the paces in that movie they hit all the beats and thats it like singer was just in it for a paycheck but thats my opinion

I agree about SR except I'd add Spacey as a problem too. He so over-acted that he turned Luthor into acaricature of himself.

I will never understand why any of these folks were cast - IMO it was almost a total mis-cast.

It really hurt the franchise - delayed a film for 6 years till when WB loses the rights.

Which means we could have had at least 1 more and maybe 2 Superman films before the ending of the franchise with MOS.

As for Singer - I have no idea what he was up to but when I saw those videos he did for BlueTights I thought this ain't the guy I want doing a Superman film.

its like wb went to him and was like so we have no good ideas for a superman film what would you do? and he was like hmm lets have a sequel to the first and second one and make it seem like the 3rd and 4th never existed and it will be about a man named clark who does stuff and yeah thats about it. and they go how will we make it relatable to people?. Well wb since there are so many single moms out there with kids wanting to see a superman movie we'll make lois a single mom! And we'll have superman lift a big rock to show how strong he is to all the comic fans that will watch it! That's brilliant Bryan! and I have the perfect cast in mind for this film it will be safe and you wont lose money I promise! sweet Bryan you have the job!...But I dont want the jo....We'll give you lots of money!...oh alright I'll do it
thats how it went down I bet you lol

Well , we also have to keep in mind that WB had pushed through several dreadful Superman scripts leading up to SR , the main one being Nic Cage's Superman Lives . Then there was the also the horrid JJ Abrams Superman concept among the other bad scripts that were circulated. By the time SR came to bat , I think WB felt that it was the best story available , compared with the 10 or so years worth of scripts that were put forward.

In the end however , given the options available at the time, I'm greatful we got something underwhelming like SR then some of the bad cheese we could have gotten with Nic Cage, Josh Hartnett, or Ashton Kutcher as Superman and Tim Burton , Brett Ratner , or McG as the director. (Shudders) :wow:.

My understanding was that Horn was under lots of pressure to get a Superman film outafter the 10 years and tens of millions spent in development hell.

Singer was a sort of Hail Mary choice.

Horn not only dropped the ball on that choice but it seems failed to put in place budget and quality control oversight by WB. The publicity photos were awful. WB should have stopped them from being releas. Maybe part of the deal was Singer had free reign - I dunno.

In the end Horn got squeezed out ironically, in part, because of the poor performance of SR.

The guy who replaced him Robinov is not a Superman guy and way back wanted to develop the other properties and let Superman go to the backburner for an extended period .

On the other hand re: WB. The Court ordered them to make a final Superman film. WB could have gone all cheap on this and not even tried.

To their credit they are spending the money and allowing expensive, talented known actors to be cast. Something they should have done for SR.

I'm confident MOS will be better tha SR It won't be a bockbuster IMO but it will do better than SR.

So hopefully the Superman franchise goes out on a positive note with MOS.

Taken from the Man of Steel facebook page:

"Man of Steel" Filming. While filming will be commencing in a few short weeks in Plano, IL for Smallville scenes, Main Street will be closing from 8/22 to 8/29 for 3-5 minute intermittent periods for filming. Along Main Street, temporary sets have been constructed. Several local area businesses and home owners have entered into agreements with Third Eye Productions for images of their respective businesses and homes to be used in filming.

Smallville High School scenes, which are being filmed at Plano’s Centennial Elementary School, are being filmed prior to the back-to-school date for the kids (8/22.) The rumored shooting at US34 and the bridge, while technically inside Plano city limits, is a state highway and negotiations would be had separately with the State of Illinois.

There have been no reported celebrity sightings in Plano yet, but sightings of Russell Crowe (cast as Jor-El) have been reported in Aurora (where the casting office is located), Wheaton, and Naperville (where crew area staying.) The infamous Starbucks photo was taken in Wheaton, where Crowe is currently residing (as stated by a representative from the City of Naperville.) The production is supposed to be a “hush-hush” deal, but with Mr. Crowe’s public appearances and frequent Tweets from the verified Twitter account about his daily exercise
regimen and other activities, there’s certainly no secret to anyone about the filming of “Man of Steel.”

The City of Plano confirmed filming would last for several weeks and possibly call for a return to Plano for additional shooting, if needed.

“Man of Steel” directed by Zach Snyder stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/ Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Julia Ormond as Lara, Kevin Costner as Jonathon Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Chris Meloni as a General. Scheduled for release in December, 2012.

Filming is taking place in Plano and Chicago, IL, Edwards AFB, CA, and Vancouver, BC. For extras casting in Vancouver, BC please visit www.AndreaBrownCasting.com

The Court ordered them to make a Superman film, not a "final" one.
MOS is not intended to be the last movie of a franchise.
I know you are hoping that MOS is the end of Superman, as demonstrated by your recent posts, but most fans, myself included, are optimistic that the WB and the other parties involved, will come to an agreement by 2013.

I'm glad you pointed this out. They'll come to an agreement because for the 100th time WB owns the superman symbol which is, at this point at least, the most profitable piece of merchandise they have including the comics. Second, superman has created lots of jobs, by giving it back to the estate they'll effectively put a lot of people out of employment, which is not what a court wants to do.

The estate can't do anything with what they win back, there not going to start making comics and no one is going to buy what they have because believe me, WB's legal team will be coming full force if they use anything remotely recognizable as something DC created. No company in their right mind would touch that.

In a way there was no one you could root for in SR except Lois's live-in Richard. He seemed the most heroic and sympathetic of all the characters. Which is a** backwards from what it should have been. But the whole kid thing doomed this film from the get-go.

Bosworth wasn't symapthetic as Lois at all. No chemistry with Routh - she had more with the actor playing Richard.

I know some liked Huntington as Jimmy but he was too quirky for my taste and physically as far removed from any Jimmy I ever envisioned.

They were basically all non-relatable characters played by mis-cast actors but for Richard. I felt sorry for him. I felt nothing for the other characters in the film.

Snyder and Nolan need to make the characters relatable, sympathetic - or despised. I couldn't despise Spacey's Lex. The character was camp and not real to me.

Casting is so critical. The SR cast was totally mis-cast.

MOS holds much more promise.

That is what I'm holding onto in hoping for it's success.

Cavill's chemistry is palpable and he has an unbelievable screen presence. uThe other actors cast so far are talented - even if maybe too pricey for a 150 million film that needs lots of FX money.

But in the end it's the characters and the actors portraying them that will sell, or not, this film. Snyder has surprised me by his choices - in a good way. Snyder scares me at times in some of his interviews - like he's had a little too much coffee or something.

But he and Nolan are paying attention to the cast in a way that Singer never did and that gives MOS a big leg up on SR.

I'm really liking that they are using the classic logo to promote this film.

you can see venom in the reflection ;)

Do we even know if this facebook page is legit when it comes to its info?

I don't know who is claiming it is a legit/official page, because it's obviously a fanpage. Just read the description in the linked Twitter account: http://***********/#!/ManofSteel2012

Also, no official WB movie Facebook page ever posted fanmade images and magazine headshots as part of their photo gallery: http://www.facebook.com/Superman.in.2012?sk=photos

that looks like the one they had at that tradeshow only in blue.

It's just the standard 2D comics 'S'

They wouldn't post such a big reveal in a cross marketing promo and not make a statement about it

Anyone still find it depressing to think at times that we'll still have to wait till NEXT December before this film is released?lol
