I defined dominance as being the most successful and prolific living group on the planet, similar to how the dinosaurs were the dominant group.

That's awfully vague. How do you define 'successful?' If reaching high abundance is what that means, then why wouldn't microorganisms (e.g., bacteria) be considered the dominant life forms on the planet?

These are the types of questions that make these sorts of comparisons tricky. You have to start out with an extremely well-defined set of parameters in order for them to work in any productive manner.
