Nine

^ Are you referring to Hudson's singing? From what I've listen to so far she's definitely the weakest of the actors.

I actually found Nicole Kidman's performance weakest, which makes me sad because the song she sings is one of my favorite songs from the show.
Fergie and Cotillard are the strongest performers in my opinion, but I find Hudson on par with Lewis, Dench and Cruz, it's just her song is bubble gum pop for the time-frame of the movie, so it's kind of the weaker song, I just find it so addictive though.

Perhaps the song does plays a part in it, I really don't like that Cinema Italiano.

Well it is one of the original songs for the movie.

Sophia Loren's little lullaby-type song "Guarda La Luna" is sweet and simple. I don't think she sings much else

Cinema Italiano is one of my favorites. I play it and try to impersonate Kate's dancing. :oldrazz:

Hudson is by far one of the strongest singers in the film.

Kidman is the weakest without a doubt, but that's no shocker.

I thought you said you'll pass?

I'm not much into musicals. I'd only see this for Lewis and the attractive women.

I have 8 1/2 on my DVR so I'll get to it eventually. Dark, if you have TCM, it shows up on there now and again. It's a great channel to watch essentials.

Wow, you're right -- looking at the first page. Musicals are rarely my niche, but I was impressed with the trailers. Visually, it looks great, and it's ****ing Daniel Day Lewis. As for TCM, I'm not sure if I have it. I rarely watch tv, anyway.

Kate Hudson is one of the worse actresses ever. Why she still has work is beyond me.

I think Hudson can act, Almost Famous showed it, it's just her choice of films, more so her continuous roles in tedious romantic comedies, is what hurts her.

^Exactly. I  her in Almost Famous.

Is Nicole bad? I thought she was excellent in Moulin Rouge and she sounded fine in that clip.

Considering which song from the show she's supposed to sing and compared to the rest of the actors in the movie, she's a disappointment. Especially considering they had a male singer sing a bonus track of it and totally blow her out of the water.

She's too soft and breathy for the song it is.

From the trailers all his performance in that movie is is SHOUTING WORDS VERY LOUDLY!!!

Watch the whole movie. There is no dialogue for the first 20 minutes and it is just the magnitude of Day-Lewis's incredible intensity that sells the movie. And given it is a 3 hour film and he has three "yelling" scenes in the whole movie and those were the two you chose to watch on Youtube, you are depriving yourself of one of the most iconic performances of the decade.

Day-Lewis almost always deserves the Oscar. He did in 2002 for Bill the Butcher. He probably deserved a supporting Oscar for A Room With a View. He deserved at least a nomination, though perhaps not a win for The Age of Innocence. He was amazing in Last of the Mohicans and There Will Be Blood may be his most wonderous performance to date.

If you ever value just amazing acting, minimalist non-structured direction/narrative and brilliant cinematography and musical composition, go watch There Will Be Blood. Now.

Perhaps. I never heard the original show or watched it. But in honest comparison, Kidman is a better singer than Hudson, but I suppose Hudson got the easier, flashier song.

I hope it is a case of everyone hating Johnny Depp's voice as Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham-Carter as Mrs. Lovett who had seen the original show or any production of it (especially if they had heard Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury in the roles) and then they're so good in Burton's film nobody cared. However, Marshall seems to be much more of a glitzy director than Burton, if that's possible, and less concerned with internal performance, so I don't know if that could be pulled off with this one, therefore.

Sorry, but not at all. But then again they both have different styles of voices, and Hudson is by far a stronger singer.

Nah, I don't really get into the whole "They're totally wrong for the part because they have the wrong voice" thing. The only things with Depp and Carter for me was I had never heard them sing before, so I didn't really know how I felt about it; I trusted them on delivering their roles acting-wise.
I always like to see the finished product, but I considered Kidman singing in Moulin Rouge, and how she performed the Nine song 'Unusual Way' and it just isn't good. It's almost makes me think of a not so good 'One Day I'll Fly Away' from Moulin Rouge.

Listen, Hudson, from what I have seen in Nine, has a pretty amazing voice. One that I totally did not see coming.

Kidman, can carry a tune, but doesn't have much of a voice.. at all. It was excusable in Moulin Rouge and Happy feet because those where just fun covers of pop songs. And in the case of Moulin Rouge, you're distracted by all the glits and glamour to really notice her singing (except for "One Day I'll Fly Away", and Majik pointed out).

When I found out Kidman cast in this film, and that she'd be singing "Unusual Way", a song written for a soprano, I figured there might be trouble. They brought the song down an octave, and she doesn't sound BAD on the it, but she is definitely the weakest voice in the cast.

Wow, I just built up a whole wad of respect for Ms. Hudson. God is her voice amazing!

And Kidman is definetly the weakest of the bunch but even then, she isnt bad so that just proves they have a really strong cast.

I cannot wait for this movie.
