Disney sets Rob Marshall to adapt "Into the Woods"

Well Disney didn't really market this as a musical, so I don't blame people for being surprised.

Well, they showed them singing in the trailer. Three separate songs. I don't know what else is necessary to market something as a musical.

I remember people said the same thing about Sweeney Todd.. but they literally SHOWED Depp singing Epiphany in most of the trailers.

"Those Moneyball trailers showed baseball and Brad Pitt playing the manager of the Oakland A's.... I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A SPORTS MOVIE!!!!"

I like Crowe a lot in Les Miz. Still, Brosnan is awful.

i didn't like Crowe much in Les Mis, but I like his rendition of Stars

just saw this tonight btw :)

Oh, well, any time I saw a trailer on tv or in the theater it was one that didn't show any singing.

Kinda curious about this one. Is it a good date movie?

Most people are kind of stupid. You'd think people would do just a little bit of research before paying to see a movie. Just look under "genre". It's like parents taking their kids to an R-rated movie and then getting upset cause there's *gasp* violence!

If you didn't know this was a musical, it is your own fault.

As for the movie. I loved the first 2/3s of it. Everyone was great, especially Streep and the young girl playing Red. Agony was hilarious and I loved all of Streep's little interruptions. Really, I loved everything about Streep. However, the final act didn't work as well for me. It loses the message, and some characters while slogging along. There is almost a disconnect. In those ways it has similar problems to Sweeney Todd, but Sweeney Todd kept the momentum up allowing for a very emotional and very satisfying finale, even in Johanna and Anthony were lost.

It still liked it plenty, but I felt a bit letdown at the end.

That's how I felt, hearing people groaning whenever a song came on I was like 'you didn't look at a single trailer outside of the first one or go online and see what it was about before deciding to spend money on it'...

Funny story about the R-rated comment: I used to work at a theater and this woman went to see Sex and the City 2 with her child, she comes out about 2/3 of the way through the movie and demanded her money back because it had sex scenes. The manager looked at her and said "Let me get this straight you want your money back because you took your child to see a rated r movie titled Sex and the City and you're upset that there are sex scenes in the film", the lady just walked away.

Short answer is yes. Especially since it reminds women that chubby honest guys with boring jobs are often better men than horse-riding princes. ;)

Just like in real life.

Saw this again tonight. So in love with it.

I really want to see this again. Loved Agony, just wow. Pine blew me away in this and damn that man is good looking.

Agony was great, and I wish there were some way for Pine and Magnussen to do the reprise from the show's second act. It wouldn't work in the movie due to the changes but I bet they'd be great in it. The lyrics are even funnier than the first act version.

Here's the reprise from the original Broadway production, with Robert Westenberg as Cinderella's Prince and Chuck Wagner as Rapunzel's Prince:

The problem with the lack of agony reprise is that back in November was telling the ladies from work that Snow White makes a cameo in this film, but then that part is cut out.

Emily Blunt has an amazing singing voice. She ought to get a record deal.

Saw this hours ago. I really liked it. The Witch and Little Red were my favorites.

I absolutely loved this movie. Streep turned it out as the Witch! Last Midnight and Stay With Me, anyone?

Even if they'd somehow kept the Agony reprise, I doubt we would have seen the princes with Snow White and Sleeping Beauty at the very end, since they didn't do the end of the show wrap up with all of the characters coming out. That was a very theatrical thing to do that wouldn't have worked onscreen, unless they did it as a post credits scene or something.

Loved it…can't really find faults, though the end did wallow a little bit. Excellent casting and not a weak spot in the cast.
This will get many repeated viewings from me.
