In schools we are required to wear utilitarian uniforms of "patriotic" colors, and are monitored by CCTV cameras. On streets, we are observed at the traffic-lights by - once again - CCTV cameras. Metal detectors abound in public places, and we are always watched.

I'm a sad panda.

This isn't just where I live, this is everywhere. And yes, this is old fact. But is it relevant, and warrants discussion.

Sad pandas are bad. Much worse than dead ones.

Just touch yourself 12 hours a day. They'll get tired of watching that crap and look away.

But what if they like watching? :wow:

It's all in your head.

And if it's not, they're just trying to protect you from the bad guys. Or film you doing crimes. Imagine a forum where Mods didn't spy on you, and check all conversations secretly. And keep tabs on you all. Chaos.

..Not.. that we do that here ... :o

Superhobo...did this.....just occur to you?

:down

"Oh my Freak! Where is the GOLD STANDARD?!?.....How do I know that this piece of paper in my wallet has ANY VALUE?!?!?!?"

:whatever:

Nope none of thats near me. My school like alot in NC is poor.So 1984 is no where near me except in my poor excuse for a history book.

none of the schools here require uniforms, except the private ones, and none of the traffic lights that have the cameras actually HAVE cameras, it's all just a scare tactic...round here anyway

He's obviously British where there actually are cameras every where outside your house watching you. And where anyone who goes to primary or secondary school wears a uniform.

But here as in all of north america almost no one who goes to a public school wears a uniform. And in my city there are 0 traffic cameras and 0 cameras in public places (outside of retial stores) watching.

White and navy blue is patriotic? The uniforms are usually there to knock off youth gang nonsense and build a sense of unity.
You're being watched in a public school? So what, when in the public you have no guarantee of privacy (except in the bathroom to some extent).
You're being watched on the street? How's that any different than living in a small town? If the system’s any good it will save lives on a regular basis. It's for your safety so just accept it while you live in the city or live in the country where you’ll still be watched but only by cold satellites that don’t care if you’re having a heart attack. At the end of the day you aren’t important enough to warrant special attention so knock it off.

There are cameras here, and they work so well we're getting more than the crappy parts of the city done pretty soon.

I love waving at cameras and making faces, even though there's probably some pervert on the other side groping his balls.

LOL, same, I even threw a ball made of rice and splatted so the camera didnt see me... (in a lift)

Only cameras I've seen are police cameras that are placed(here in Baltimore City) on streat corners/intersections because of the high rate of drug dealing.

So far it's kepts them off the corners....even though they will find a different method of dealing but it just made it harder for them.

As for uniforms, I've never heard of a public school that required you to wear one....

Yeah, Baltimore sucks. Baltimore has a higher crime rating per person than New York City! It's second only to Detroit!

Why can't we all just have LOVE & PEACE!!!!!???

I don't know, newb. I don't know. Over here, at the high-school, you are required to wear red, white, and blue constantly. It's not a private school, and it does nothing to deter the gangs and all that. But, it's for 'unity.' Strength through unity. Unity through faith.

Woo.

Other stuff mentioned is almost nothing new, but this one is.

It seems quite petty and makes no sense. For a school that necessitates a no-uniform policy, it limits the freedom of wardrobe as well.

Fine if we're required to sing the national anthem and say our prayers (they've always been around and while they're often a mixed bag, they do no one harm and it's good recognition too, particularly if you re-use them in later life) but not this overt extension of jingoism. Don't think more reinforcement is needed.

And seriously, you're just now realizing all of this, Superhobo? I'm glad you came out of your cave, finally.
