Because they aren't Sony. ;)

Reggie: We WILL Sell 4 Million Wiis This Year

"All systems are go for reaching the 4-million target we have in our financials by December 31," he said at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. "We will sell everything we make so now it's simply a manufacturing thing."

Nintendo on Tuesday said it had sold 600,000 Wii consoles in the first eight days after its November 19 release in the Americas — and that Wii-related revenue, including games and accessories, had hit $190 million.

But now according to their Financial statement for year Ending 2006:

The company held firm to its previous forecast for consolidated worldwide shipments of 6 million Wii hardware systems by the end of the fiscal year. Nintendo manufactured 4 million Wii systems by the end of 2006 and during that time sold and delivered 3.19 million to its distributors and retail customers around the world.

Oh and they have something like 7.1billioninthebanknothingimportantmuttermutterstuff...

I find gamers clinging to "sales goals" for Sony, Microsoft OR Nintendo to be a little bit goofy. I don't care if ANY system reaches its "year end goal."

Too bad that it outsold the PS3 by only.. what.. 2-2.5 million units?

Yes, damn you Nintendo for not selling a whole 4x as much as Sony did, damn you indeed!

you see, the difference is this...PS3's are now readily available, and still not selling...we've had the same 14 of them sitting in the back room at the Toys R Us I work in for a month now, and have only sold 2...Wii's on the other hand have still been consistently selling out, the only reason they seem to have not made their goal is because that many systems simply dont exist...we have yet to even have a Wii make it to the floor before being snatched up by someone wanting to buy them, and I have at least 5 people ask me everyday I work when we'll be getting Wii's in, while no one gives a f**k about the 14 PS3's just sitting there in the window of the R-Zone booth, and out on the floor in the EDC case :o

Come on little Xbot, shout louder!

No one cares because Nintendo isn't taking a huge loss by not meeting their goal.

Nintendo is taking a loss by not selling those units since they make money on their hardware, Sony doesn't so... huh?

Come on little Xbot, shout louder!

Considering that I love Nintendo as well, how does that make me a Xbot? Oh yeah, because you're a complete and utter moron, I forgot about that.. excuse me for my short term memory.

The fact that you're even trying to compare a very successful launch that only didn't sell as well as the company projected because they couldn't produce enough consoles, and a launch that was riddled with ****-ups and has pretty much stagnated only a month after launch is ridiculous. It only exemplifies your naivete.

But I digress.

I sincerely hope you weren't being serious. Wasn't making an idiot out of yourself over the 50 meg limit enough?

But I digress.

I am being serious. And I didn't make an idiot out of myself over the 50 meg "limit", seeing as even with the "cap" (funny how it's now 250 megs) XBLA still managed to have more quality downloads than PSN.

But really, you have no point here. You're trying to compare a phenomenal launch to a stagnant launch that should go down in history as Sony's worst yet. The fact that you'd try to pull something like that is mind-numbingly stupid.

"NINTENDO MISSED THEIR TARGET BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T MAKE/SHIP ENOUGH CONSOLES TO PLEASE THE MASSES!!!1! THIS PROVES THAT YOU ARE BIASED AGAINZT SONY!!" Has to be one of the most ridiculous arguments I have ever seen.

The fact that you'd even cite a past argument to try to deter/insult me is even more pathetic. I don't get what anyone sees in you. Your posts are just alot of hyperbole and trying to connect A and B when they're obviously disparate things. I also love your placement of smilies as if they somehow "enhance" your argument.

if they had made those units and then not sold them, yes, then they would be taking a loss...but seeing as how all units they have produced have sold, that's not a valid argument

Doesn't matter. It's over 4 million sold WW now.

No doubt. The wii is selling awesomely, I just wish they had their release schedule planned out a bit better. I mean they apparently pushed Metroid to spring for just about no reason at all, something about whating it to corolate with the release of their other titles better. March would've be perfect to give us another meaty game to keep the hardcore Nintendo fans happy.

Anyway:

Amongst the Q3 financial news an interesting bit about the production of Wii has been revealed
http://gonintendo.com/?p=12281
http://today.reuters.co.jp/news/arti...N-244267-1.xml
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/biztech...ion=cnn_latest

Nintendo manufactured 4 million units by Dec 31st 2006, and intends to manufacture a total of 7 million by fiscal year end, March 31st 2007, at a rate of 1 million per month during the first 3 months of this year. However, in April Nintendo is going to increase this manufacturing rate.

This news suggests Nintendo could be intending to forecast over 12 million units for the next fiscal year, which would make 18 million shipped in 18 months! When you consider GC sold ~22 million in 6 years, this figure for Wii is huge. This also points to Nintendo having a really strong line-up of Wii titles in development.

I hope the wii starts getting more then third party shovelware though, it's getting rediculous.

Actually you did. And talking about the cap being raised just proved it even more because you're aknowledging there was a cap. BTW, devs can now request up to 450 megs but it involves a bit more then just asking and Microsoft saying ok, like you insinuated, sort of like how everything I linked showed that.

And let's not forget that you started that arguement blindly claiming there was no 50 meg limit and that it didn't exist whatsoever until I proved it to you 3 times over.

You just can't help yourself.

Actually I didn't compare the launch on the Wii to the PS3. All I said what Nintendo missed their 4 million target by 800k and no one cared because they aren't Sony, it's not like I was, say, makinga post talking about how Nintendo missed their shipments by an equal or greater amount realtive to Sony etc. Nice job on the reading comp.

And your logic of you loving Nintendo not making you an Xbot doesn't work since they aren't entirely mutually exclusive. I love Nintendo, but yet you call me a Sony bot, so drop yet another flawed line of reasoning and you might be better off.

Actually your entire post history is what I based that remark on. Not any one comment, but you're right, Xbot might not be as appropreate as just Sony hater. I do expected you the launch into a diatrib of why you think Sony sucks, but you probably won't now that I just pointed out what you were going to do.

The fact that you'd even cite a past argument to try to deter/insult me is even more pathetic. I don't get what anyone sees in you. Hey you're welcome to your opinion. Just thought I'd make a fun post about Nintendo not meeting their goals. Nothing serious as the ;), picard smiley, and the mention of 7.1 billion in the bank and then not having any spaces should have made apparent. Theirs nothing to raise your sheilds over here, but one comment sent you into full attack mode. Whatever.

Actually there is something else I'm going to point out that you got wrong, not as embarassing as your "Arcade games" digression from the old thread, but here:

The fact that you're even trying to compare a very successful launch that only didn't sell as well as the company projected because they couldn't produce enough consoles[/quote]

Try reading the original post sometime, that wasn't why they didn't sell the 4 million. You keep toping yourself.

Have fun!

For Zenien (I suppose this is how we're going to address each other now, eh?):

Actually you did. And talking about the cap being raised just proved it even more because you're aknowledging there was a cap. BTW, devs can now request up to 450 megs but it involves a bit more then just asking and Microsoft saying ok, like you insinuated, sort of like how everything I linked showed that.

I acknowledged there was a "cap" in the other thread. I just said it wasn't a 100% full cap. It is more of a guideline for developers that can be exceeded as long as they get permission from MS. It's not like they could never exceed it, no matter what because MS has set it up as a rule.

Also, before you said that Castlevania was merely an exception to the rule, yet now you're acknowledging that the rule actually dictates that you can exceed said cap. It wasn't a set-in-stone rule that you had to make a game 50 megs no matter what, like you seemed to be trying to tell me in that other thread.

And let's not forget that you started that arguement blindly claiming there was no 50 meg limit and that it didn't exist whatsoever until I proved it to you 3 times over.
laugh.gif

I didn't say it didn't exist. It's just not important, since it can be exceeded. Thus it is not a true "hard cap." It's there as a guideline, not as the end-all, be-all like I was trying to say in the other thread.

You just can't help yourself.

I can't, really. You hit the nail on the head.

The whole basis of the idea that no one cared because it wasn't Sony was not true though. It's because they still had a stellar launch nonetheless, and had little to no manufacturing and shipping problems unlike Sony. Hell, that's the only reason I have singled-out Sony's launch. Well, and the poor launch titles but I guess the Xbox 360's wasn't too great either.

And your logic of you loving Nintendo not making you an Xbot doesn't work since they aren't entirely mutually exclusive. I love Nintendo, but yet you call me a Sony bot, so drop yet another flawed line of reasoning and you might be better off.

But being a Xbot requires for you to be in love with everything Xbox and some measure of hate for every other company, or at least this is the definition that I have gotten out of the name. See, I call you a "Sony wh***", which means you're in love with Sony. I don't call you a Sony "bot", which would imply that you eat, drink, and sleep everything Sony and don't see anything else as good enough.

I love Nintendo and Microsoft about the same, which means I'm not a Xbot. I may be a Xbox wh***, but I definitely do not have my head crammed so far up my ass that all I can see is MS and Xbox. Hell, I USED TO love Playstation (less so with Playstation 2) but just the crap that Sony's done in the last few years has disgusted me.

Actually your entire post history is what I based that remark on. Not any one comment, but you're right, Xbot might not be as appropreate as just Sony hater. I do expected you the launch into a diatrib of why you think Sony sucks, but you probably won't now that I just pointed out what you were going to do.

You're right there, I do hate Sony pretty much outright. And actually, I never was going to launch into a diatribe as to why Sony sucks. I never even thought about it. It's not like all I do is plot about how to next make Sony look like a bunch of idiots. They do it for themselves, really.

See, I expect it out of you, though. That's the problem, every argument I've ever been in with you has given me the impression that you are willing to make any company look bad as long as Sony looks better in the process. Coupled with the fact that I don't easily see sarcasm through the computer, seeing as I can't hear/see your voice or facial expressions.

Try reading the original post sometime, that wasn't why they didn't sell the 4 million. You keep toping yourself.

I'm sorry, I meant produced/shipped. If you would read the original post, there's a little part in there that clearly says they SHIPPED and sold only 3.19 million consoles. Not that they shipped 4 million but only sold 3.19. You can't blame them for not being able to teleport Wiis straight to the retailers. It's plain economics.

as much as I love Zelda, it just not enough for me to buy a wii, close though, but when Smash comes out, that's a different story.

I expect a huge sales increase when smash comes out.
