Why haven't I reviewed the IRON MAN yet? Very simple. It doesn't exist!

With weeks to go, Jon Favreau and Company STILL DON’T HAVE A FINALIZED IRON MAN SCRIPT!

They have pages of course, but nothing complete. When a film rushes into production to make a release date without a completed script… well, it doesn't take an insider to know that 99% of the time, the movie will be whack!

I wish I had better news to report with Iron Man and if that script existed, I would have had it by now. I’m the Ben Gates of screenplays and I got a super secret mole on the inside and it will be impossible for them to protect that script from me! But of course, it doesn't exist yet. That’s the latest.

HASTA EL PROXIMO CAPITULO…

…YO SOY EL MAYIMBE!

I know dialogue polishes happen during the course of filming but to have no script finished this close to the start of shooting is a little worrying

Is it POSSIBLE this guy is mistaken? I mean, I've read plenty of his reviews but they haven't begun shooting yet so maybe Favs is simply holding onto the script until then. I think if I wanted to protect a script, and be very selective in who I gave pieces of it to, I could keep it from falling into the wrong hands.

I HOPE he's wrong anyway!

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Is he sure there's no script, and not that HE just doesn't have it. Saying that if he doesn't have a script then it doesn't exist makes him sound a little full of himself.

I read a couple weeks ago on Jon's myspace, he gave a update and he said "Fergus and Ostby (Children of Men) are working on the script." that was from January 17th, so they are still writing the script, but I know he's said in the past that the script was nearly done, my guess is there doing final clean ups on it, just because this guy doesn't have a script, means very little.

Well, he didn't say there was no script only that the script has not been completed yet. But how does he know the script hasn't just been completed. It could have been completed as he was writing that report. It's not like Favreau is gonna notify LR the second the script is done.

Yup, this is most likely the case. Why are there 4 screenwriters though for this movie? (Arthur Marcum, Matt Holloway, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby) Doesn't that seem a bit much? Seems like too many cooks in the kitchen.

I'm thinking the same.

I don't think it's as hopeless as Latino Review is implying..

..from what I've heard (i'm an intern in LA...wont' say where) that with the production, they're having a hard time pinning down the right budget, esp with a project like this. Mind you this is Marvel's first film without any real support (Paramount is just the distrubutor) but I'm sure everythiing will be fine.

It's possible that they are still working on a budget detailed treatment, so they can storyboard action sequence trying to keep the movie within a certain cost, and at the same time be ready with the dialog scenes (which have lesser problems of budget).

No, the Latino Review guy is right: there's no finalized script yet. Look out for the Wanted or Namor the Sub-Mariner script review: 'nuff said!

all these people from Italy with scoops galore! ha!

I honestly think that they're not in grave danger like with the rush with X3 or the first Fantastic Four.
I'm sure that they need to set out a finalized script but everything is pretty much in stone with the narrative.

When are they suppose to start shooting?

Most likely May, I doubt they finished the whole casting stuff.

March 12th 2007 is when shooting is to start.

Exactly.

I mean, you can't get the 'Batman Begins' calibur names without an excellent screenplay- unless, their all HUGE 'Iron Man' fans that just want to do it because it's Iron Man or because it's Marvel... which doesn't seem like they would take such a risk to go with a film without a screenplay.

So, they HAVE to have something to get this high a calibur in cast.

They've have had almost a year to work on it. I have a hard time believing that they haven't written at least a few drafts.

Casablanca was being written during the actual filming so nobody go into panic mode just yet.

Of course they must have done some drafts, what I think the LR guy means is they don´t have yet a shooting script, which is actually concerning given that they´re just a few weeks away from starting principal photography.

They're probably finishing up the shooting script. I just have hard time believing that they don't have the script ready. I doubt that they would be that reckless, especially considering that this is Marvel's first film that they are producing on their own.

it's NOT like they're "oh my god, we have nothing for the third act but just an explosion and a catchline."

Mark Fergus on Iron Man

March 23, 2007

For the immediate future, Fergus and Otsby are at work on director Jon Favreau's "Iron Man," having turned the armored hero into a screenplay for what will be one of the more anticipated "tent-pole" movies of summer '08.

"We're really just here, reworking, combining, changing - anything they need us to do," Fergus said. "Shooting started this week."
