If there's one thing I want in the reboot is a change in special effects company. The main SFX company in the past films has been Sony Imageworks (which is picked for obvious reasons).

But seeing they want a fresh start, how about a new main SFX company like WETA or ILM who have proven themselves capable time and time again.

While I don't necessarily dislike SPI work I don't think its the best out there.

Anyone else share these sentiments or I'm I alone?

You're definitely not alone. Despite the reboot still being produced by Sony, I hope the studio looks to a different company, or at least more, to handle the effects... of course, as I type this, it just sounds silly to say that I hope Sony looks elsewhere other than Sony. One can hope.

I would be happy with either ILM or Weta but if I had to pick just one I'd prob go for Weta!

Yeah I'd like to see what either ILM or WETA would do with SM.

Both of them are great and wouldn't be disappointed at all if ILM is picked but right now I'm also leaning towards WETA especially after the great blending and integration of flying that was shown in Avatar.

well I hope Sony Imageworks are nowhere near this so called "reboot".

They way they gave us cack CGI for Spidey 3 and even for Superman Returns is disgraceful.

Spidey 3's CGI was actually worse than in Spidey 2, it was so rushed and jerky, and awful looking.

Its time for ILM or WETA to come on board and give us photo realistic web slinging action with proper motion capture and make the motion look smoother.

If you're spending 350 million on a movie, they should at least bother to give us great SFX.

SONY
SONY Imageworks

...do the math

I picked " No i Like Sony Imageworks ".
Here's why. The quality of CGI animation is , aside from budgetary stuff , depending on the director.
There are directors who can do wonders with CGI and there are those who can't do crap with it. SPielberg is the former , Stephen Sommers is the latter.

While it is true that WETA and ILM are currently at the top of their game due to realism for CG shots delivered for a variety of movies like POTC :DMC & AWE ( ILM ) , TF & TF:ROTF & Iron Man ( ILM) , Avatar ( ILM & WETA) you have to also look at who directed those movies.
After the LOTR Movies and King Kong many people were asking for WETA to do the VFX for pretty much every movie.
However they also worked on the VFX of FF:RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER , X3, Eragon , The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Would you say that the VFX in those movies looked good compared to the stuff they did Avatar or LOTR ?

As for Sony Imageworks , i thought the work they did on Dr Manhatten in Watchmen was spectacular. So to be honest. No i don't think they should be nor will be be sacked ( because Sony owns them). It's more about planning out shots and working with a fixed schedule . Work out a shootable script before starting production and don't make a movie without a completed script.

I don't like Sony Imageworks that much, but I doubt Sony will pick someone else.

If I could see a WETA version of the Lizard, I would die a happy man. :liz:
