A few days ago, my PC gave me a shutting down prompt and it turns itself off.

Now, as long as the PC is plugged into the wall, my PC will boot up by itself, starts up for 3 seconds and then shuts itself off. I am unable to start the PC back up manually.

Then after 15 seconds, and it starts booting up by itself for a few seconds and shuts off again. This keeps happening as long as it's plugged in. I unplugged it for a few hours, but as soon as I plugged it back in, it started booting up by itself again and shutting back down continuously.

I replaced the power supply, but nothing has changed. It is still giving me the same symptoms.

WHAT'S WRONG?!

I think I've got a virus!!

All of a sudden, my PC gave me the shutting down prompt that I don't remember giving it and it turns itself off.

Now, as long as the PC is plugged in, my PC starts up by itself, boots up for 3 seconds and then shuts off. Then, 10 seconds go by and it starts back up and shuts off again. This keeps happening as long as its plugged in.

OMG, what do I do? Is all my stuff gone?!

Don't you have a fire wall? Scan for a virus and let it do the work.

You are da screwed.....stop downloading porn!!!! Godsmack!!!

Boot into safe mode and run a virus scan.

Do you mean plugged into the wall, or the internet.

If you mean the wall, it sounds more like a hardware problem. Viruses don't usually live in startup sequences (your operating system needs to boot first). Unless it's an MBR virus. But I haven't heard of one of those in years (although maybe I just haven't heard of one in years and they're all over the place).

This is why you wear a condom.

Um, let's get a mod to move this to the tech forum so we avoid the spam.

Moving to tech, for better/more help.

I'm having the same problem.:(

That's what you get when you give the Nigerian prince your bank account number and click on one of those herbal Viagra links in the same day. :oldrazz:

Are you sure you power button isnt stuck/****ed? Virus dont normaly turn on the computer.... Would make sense that your button was broken and it was powering up and down when pluged in

Yeah, but I need to get the damn thing to actually boot up first.

Boot into safe mode and run a virus scan.
I haven't booted in safe mode in years. I honestly don't remember how to do it.

Ugh...This is exactly why I posted this on the Community forum. :(

I really need some help over here. Nothing has changed!

I talked to some people and it seems like I might need a new power supply. I'd rather take it to the shop and have them replace it with a new one rather than try to do it myself.

That is, if anyone can convince me that replacing the power supply is so easy a caveman can do it (like me). :p

Replacing a power supply isn't hard. And it's only like 40 bucks, depending on the model. But if you're a hardware noob (or a caveman) you'll probably want a tech to do it. Might cost you a hundred, but at least you'll know it was done right (hopefully).

Jesus where do you get your stuff done? $$$$$$

Anyway changing a power supply is easy, take 4 screws out unplug all the connections to the old one. screw the new one in, put the connections back, and there is no way you can put them in the wrong way either, just have to make sure they are all pushed in fully

Also told you it would be hardware related

So, how would I know what power supply to buy? I'm not sure 100% what kind of power supply I have. My PC was custom-built. I think I may still have the specs for it, but if I don't, will I have to open the PC up to find out first?

The serial/model number would probably be on the back of the power supply, on the fan.

All the same really just some have more connectors than others only thing you will need to look at is what Watt it is at the moment 400w is kinda standard in most (least over here)

Ok, my PC isn't starting up anymore. It isn't starting up by itself when it's plugged in and I can no longer turn it on manually.

That's most likely the power supply. When mine went out, I couldn't turn it on at all.
