No so much a political thread as a thread tracking the development of an international crisis and tragedy.

The middle east will always be at war as it is written "whenever they say 'peace,' sudden destruction comes upon them."

Quick question: who actually listens/agrees with Chomsky?

...academics?

Of course with his academic career but with his political activism, etc.

I sort of agree with his less radical viewpoints.

Killing all soulless robots.

Honestly:

Anti-War views
Free speech/anti-censorship
Empowering the working class.

Not particularly well-informed on said views anyway.

It is unfortunate no one west of France can say a WORD about Israel.

You can actually, you just get labeled an anti-semite...even if you are Jewish! :(

Hahaha...that's really unfortunate that some would say that.

I was especially annoyed, as a Canadian, that my recently and barely-elected-in-one-of-the-smallest-margins-of-Canada's-histories minority government Prime Minister sided "firmly" with Israel. It was kind of like a dog barking after America, I mean...it's master speaks. I just feel ashamed that my state is now one condoning the violence. I do not think one side is blameless, I just would rather have dialogue with people - have leaders - that want to sit down with BOTH sides. Whom will actually critique things objectively.

That is why I said the Western world is no place to speak ill of Israel. I've been having to come to grips that my country now officially supports Israel. Ugh.

Siding vehemently with a nation 'cause they "look like us" and their god is our god (well, he's not my god, in any event) is so...schoolyard.

I do. As do a great number of people I know. And based on his book sales, turnouts for lectures and all out popularity, I'd be willing to bet there are a wealth of people all over the world who agree with him.

Noam Chomsky wrote the 55th symphony right?

As a free thinker I rarely agree with anyone 100% but Chomsky is a man of have a lot of respect towards and look forward to reading/hearing his views and commentary and giving it serious thought with an open mind.
