The Dark Knight Nolan: "Running time comparable to the first film's 140 minutes"

Batman Begins was 131 minutes with about 9 minutes of credits

So? Lots of movies have credit times that can be proportionate to its running time. Most movies nowadays have over 5 minutes of credits. That's still over 2 hours of narrative.

Just to be technical, the first movie was about 2 hours 11 minutes long WITHOUT credits.

Kinberg, Penn, and Ratner said Batman Begins was too long. Audiences have short attention spans remember?

batman begins was by no means too long. audiences can have short attention spans, but film fans don't. the so-called "casual moviegoer" does. but i think TDK will bring in more than the "casual moviegoer." if it is as good as we all think it will be, then it'll be a critical darling, like begins, and bring in film fans as well as comic fans, as well as casual moviegoers.

I really hate to say it because I set my expectations of this movie so high but that dialogue does not sound very good. I'm hoping it will work though once I see it with the characters and the situation.

yeah. like i said before, think about some of the begins dialogue. mediocre dialogue sounds a lot better coming from good actors and within a good plot and scene structure.

guys , in the long term , we re gonna have a 2+ hours of Batman . Standing on the history of both Nolan and Goyer ( Nolan bro too ) we re not gonna get smthg lame . Just remember all the lines from TDK . there will be dialogue that equals the action . Nolan is realistic . He is the kind of guy that will probably have a long conversation with....emmm...let's say joel schumacher before he kicks his head off.
So,in my opinion TDK is
Proper dialogue 45&
Action 45%
Katie Holmes kind of dialogue 10%

I really hope that this movie lives up to it's hype because otherwise its going to suffer like the Star Wars Prequels and the Matrix sequels. (Not that I'm comparing them to those movies, because they honestly were mediocre, but had it not been for the hype they had, they wouldn't be as low regarded as they are.)

mark my words. this movie will exceed all expectations.

again. an interesting movie can be over 2 hours long and noeoen will care. if the movie is interesting the time flys by.

mark my words. this movie will exceed all expectations.

[Norrington voice] Consider them marked. :cwink:

I don't know if it can meet expectations, let alone exceed them. I think a lot of us are expecting one of the most kickass movies ever. It might work out, but odds are it won't be able to meet everyone's expectations. I'm trying to keep myself somewhat grounded in my expectations.

maybe we should all calm down . we did't know how the first film would come out and it did pretty good . BB satisfied most of us batfans . let's not expect tooooooo much and hope for the best . So far the material we receive is spectacular . The story is interesting . the only thing i'm not getting is the obsession of the marketing with Joker . ok he is the main villain (untill the end of the film i suppose . but what about batsy?or dent?or gordon?anyway . thumbs up the effort untill now .

Now its funny to compare it to a laughable comic film "franchise" like Fantastic Four, especially the putrid second one and its running time of 92 minutes. Those people have very little story to tell, which is why you get such a short running time.
Story? What story? I remember only some bad, really bad acting and terrible jokes. What a crap.

It's funny... just tonight I dreamed that The Dark Knight's running time would be 90 mins. - IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!

Hopefully they're an excellent two and a half hours.

140 minutes really is perfect. Look how much they were able to pack into the first film at the same length. Now think about the fact that this movie will not need to use the first hour of that to set up the story.

so why do we need to talk about this.... really? time really...

no I get to use my new weapon on this thread

This thread gets an I hate you, it is about 140 minutes what else is there to discuss? What kind of soda you want to drink while you watch it? How to ration your snacks up?

I think a films running time is an important topic of conversation. I know that for me, a movie that tries to pack too much into a short runtime usually dissapoints. So I am very stoked to see that the film will clock in at 2+ hours. And it is all forward progress this time. No need for lengthy set up. I think it is very exciting.
