Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

Oh I get it. But I don’t see how you grow that base. I’m definitely canceling my subscription if even half of what’s being speculated on happens.
They are going to shrink the fanbase, focus on dude bros, spend less money, and pray their big prestige stuff hits. That is how they plan on making money.

He'll just wait until HBO Max is merged with Discovery, and then he'll be able to say, "See, I kept my word. I didn't cancel HBO Max shows. These are Discovery shows."

Big brain CEO 4d chess.

I think the problem here might be that when Zaslav says "shows" he's not even thinking of animation, which to him is pointless kid stuff.
My soul. It hurts. All I can hope for is Harley being part of the Bat Family saves her. Doom Patrol is definitely dead after this season. But I already expected that. Just hope I get to see this one, and they don't get a tax write off for it instead.

Zaslav isn’t going to last 10 years
I’m pretty confident on that. You can’t pull the wool over people’s eyes for that long. He can make money from reality shows and keep shareholder’s happy on that front but you need fans and regular people onboard for these big productions and the same shareholders will notice when things go wrong on that end. He’s alienating people who see DC films multiple times in cinemas.

I will take the win with The Batman.

Also, Scoob 2 not happening is alright by me.
I don’t really call it a win. Under anyone with a brain there would be no thought of it being at risk in the first place.

I was hoping one of the analysts would ask about the Ezra situation. Just wanted to hear Zaslav’s reaction. Oh well.

Zaslav on Scripted Drama: "It's like a kid's soccer game - everyone saw something that worked and started chasing the ball. It's way too expensive."

I cannot comprehend thinking that way about scripted tv - the definitive root of the medium for all of its history. And he's talking about it like its some lame fad. :cmad:
Feels like he landed in the wrong industry and is applying what worked in a different one here as he really doesn’t seem to understand some basics. Scripted shows (and films) may have large inherent risk but the industry has been around for a very long time. You don’t last that long if there is an obvious flaw in the model. Reality TV scratches a completely different itch and even if it makes money with less risk, it’s a different source of revenue, not a replacement of what you can get from scripted drama.

At a time when premium scripted television is praised as much as or more than cinema this idiot wants to come in and act like it's the stuff of wasteful children.

Scripted TV will go the way of the dinosaur any moment now.

I'm curious to see what happens to WB's stock.

His soccer analogy on scripted shows, while crass, isn’t entirely wrong. Success breeds copycats.

I bet HBO Documentaries are getting the chop. John Oliver may want to look for a new employer too.

Oh and it won't surprise me if Zas starts selling ad space on HBO. We'll have to put up with Charmin ass tissue and Coca-Cola ads.

He blatantly hasn’t seen the best modern shows or seen the engagement levels they bring.
