Film Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

General Film
So could Warner Media continue to make these expensive movies and release them just on HBOMax. Is it sustainable? How many could they make per year?

Doubt it. At&t or whoever owns them is currently losing money which is why we get constant lay offs and they sold Crunchyroll.

There's a reason why most streaming movies/series have a cap at about $150M. Yes something like LOTR may cost more but as of right now, Netflix, Disney+ aren't paying 200+ for anything.

Was searching around on HBO Max and saw the Blade trilogy is on there too, at least for now. Guessing that won't be lasting forever. ;) Have never seen the movies so I'll definitely be watching them soon.

The first one is good enough, the second is great, and the third is trash.

Sustainability seems to be measured by getting and keeping subscribers. If they had Netflix's subscription numbers, they could do whatever they want. But I am of the opinion that TV series and NOT feature length films is what streaming audiences want. So WB would be better off investing in several 10-12 episode TV series than movies for HBOMax.

I'm finally getting to watch Young Justice Season 3 and loving it so far. So happy to see all the DC cartoons slowly coming home to roost. (Maybe we can get a revival of GL:TAS?)

Also, peep at Person of Interest joining up this month!

GL: TAS was good? I guess I just forgot about it.

GL TAS is really great. It sorta has a rough start, and the CG animation style isn't the most fluid either, but so so good towards the end.

In retrospect, it's a bit similar to Transformers Prime, as they have the same animation style, and both have rough starts that get a lot better as they progress.

I never watched Young Justice, but I did watch the GL Animated Series a few years ago. I think it was on Netflix then. Anyway, decent show. Didn't blow my mind or anything, but it was solid entertainment.

Going to have an action movie marathon today. Plenty of old school macho action movies I enjoy very fondly!

It was fantastic, imo. I much preferred it over Young Justice (the two got cancelled together, but only YJ got resurrected :( ).

Young Justice was great so I'll be sure to check it out.

Poor GL. A great character that had the misfortune of a bad movie and ruined everything.

I punched out of YJ when it went to DC Universe. The first 2 seasons prior on Cartoon Network? I thought were really well done.

Yeah YJ season 3 was meh. The first 2 seasons were really well done.

Like most shows it got better around the second season once the writing starting to come together.

They just try to be way tooooo big in storytelling. Skipping ahead so much in years each season and focusing on so many brand new (often uninteresting) characters was the downfall of S3 for me. "Gen"2 got next to no development if your name wasnt Blue Beetle and then they all practically are silent in S3 with nothing to do so an Alien bug can get screentime.

Yeah, YJ just had so many characters that barely any of them got enough screen time for me to care. When it comes to animated half-hour shows, I prefer a smaller cast of main characters for better character development. That’s probably the main reason I preferred GL.

GL:TAS was brilliant and sadly cancelled far too soon. No toyline and expensive CG animation killed it, but I'd be happy to see Bruce Timm continue it with regular animation on HBO Max.

'Young Justice' simply got worse with each season... both the writing and animation were underwhelming in season 3.

Not surprising. If anything, HBO’s dual release strategy will make other studios question their release timeline if these films keep underperforming at the box office. I’m sure Bond will get pushed again or picked up by a streaming service.
