Film Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

General Film
Those have been the same numbers that have been going around. I wish HBO Max released numbers like what Disney+ did, like 2.7M households watched Hamilton between July 3-13.

Not surprising. If anything, HBO’s dual release strategy will make other studios question their release timeline if these films keep underperforming at the box office. I’m sure Bond will get pushed again or picked up by a streaming service.
Surprised HBO Max, Netflix, and Prime Video aren't already having a bidding war for it.

Unfortunately i think most of this yea is going to prove a wash and HBO Max will end up looking good for their decision (despite the poor execution). I dont think Black Widow’s going to do well in May in Marvel keeps that date:

Unless things change drastically within the next month with the vaccine getting distributed I honestly doubt it will actually come out in May unless Disney decides to take a page from Warner Bros and do what they did with WW84 by also making it available on Disney Plus like they did with HBO Max.

The execution might have been poor but it sounds like it was successful for the most part which should be all that matters, especially with the pandemic still going strong.

Sounds like crew members will also get a bonus. They didn’t before in the old box office payout method. Would be hard to argue for theatrical only now, when that means you’re denying your crew members a potential bonus.

Still don't think filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve it would make a difference. And the key word is potential.

I was watching Wendy Williams today and right there...just talking about SATC she goes "But I heard its on HBO Max? I dont have that. I have HBO, whats Max? Do I have to watch it on my phone?"

There's your problem HBO(Max)! people are still confused about who you are!

Yeah, WB/AT&T need to do a better job with their PR team because this is bad. Because I can imagine tons of SATC fans being upset that they thought having HBO meant they get access to the new season only to discover they have to shell out more money to get a premium version.

She is but I can already give you a laundry list of people who would confuse HBO with HBO Max.

Nobody who’s paying for HBO should have to pay any more for HBO Max. They would just need to download the app.

But I agree about the confusion part. Their branding on this has sucked.

I think the issue with so many people who have HBO who don't download HBO Max might be a generational thing. Maybe people are content with the way they have HBO on their tv now. Add to that most of the current HBO shows can be viewed through regular cable.

I thoroughly agree that HBO has probably the best library so I'm not sure it's the generational thing, the price, the marketing, the lack of original content shows exclusive to HBO Max or combination of all 4.

Meh it’s Wendy Williams. She’s not exactly with it in general

I have Xfinity cable and if you have HBO you can watch HBO Max for no extra charge. The bad thing is when I had HBO and would try and sign in it would take me to HBO Go not Max.

My two problems with HBO Max are the price and the fact the Cinemax shows are not on HBO Max. If I have HBO Max I shouldn't have to also get Cinemax as well.

Also Cinemax is referred to as Max. I'm pretty sure the XFinity guide list all Cinemax channels as Max. Cinema's streaming site is Max Go. If people at AT&T, WB, HBO or whoever don't realize there is at least the chance for brand confusion then I'm not sure what to say. I like the service just fine but as it is now I think it should be $10 a month. And if the sell is approved Crunchy Roll will be removed and there will be less content for the same money if something isn't added in its place.

All joking and annoyance aside, I really hope they get it together in terms of marketing. I like the service, and more sources for streaming shows for me to enjoy, the better. This is the new battleground for studio warfare. The more studios in the game, the better chance for quality entertainment. Also I need Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn to live!

I am watching 2049 right now, and I'd kill for a show set in this world. HBO MAX could make it happen.

I'm actually shocked there hasn't been a Blade Runner show announced yet, tbh. That premise feels tailor-made for TV.

I'd never say a bad world about HBO MAX again if they announced that. I am more of a 2049 guy then the original flick, but I will take a show anywhere on the timeline. It's such an amazing world to explore. They could even do an anthology series, and it would work incredibly well imo.

They haven't announced anything Matrix based, right? That feels like another that would be pretty perfect.

Side note. I am watching the 4K for 2049 the first time with my new speaker system and our picture frame on the wall rattled do the sub and that made my brother way too happy. :hehe:

Yeah I enjoyed 2049 way more than the original. I’d be game for a tv series to happen on HBO. I think a lot of these niche sci-fi movies would do better as television series than film (I’m looking at you Dune).
