Film Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

General Film
After being disappointed in Disenchantment and Grace and Frankie ending, I may be giving up Netflix. I know it means I can't be in the know with Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things, but I don't think they alone are worth keeping over Max.

If Netflix can consistently come out with content like Dark, Ozark, and Black Mirror—I can’t see myself giving it up anytime soon. Besides, I get it pretty much for free from my phone carrier.

I've actually been watching more movies on Netflix lately, both originals like Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and just stuff I hadn't gotten around to seeing before like Hunt for the Wilderpeople. There's still a lot on there for me to justify keeping it. For now.

I pay for Netflix, my in-laws pay for HBO and we use each other's.

There isn't a series right now on HBO Max for me that equals, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, the Kingdom or even Transformers: War for Cyberton, Castlevania or Dragon Prince.

Netflix isn't going anywhere anytime soon and actually might be getting better, some of their recent content has been very good.

HBO Max has more intrigue and promise than actual interesting content. They need more than the 2020 cinematic lineup to draw people in. Disney+ feels like Netflix's only real viable competition at this stage.

It would not be exclusive to HBO Max though. They'd piss off their cable subscribers by only having it available there.
Do they NEED it to be exclusive, though? They just need something as big as GOT on HBO itself, because people are far more likely to get MAX than subscribe through cable if they want to watch it.

This is where I was at 2 years ago when I dropped it (I now just use my Dad’s on the rare occasion they have something “must-watch” on there). Even their biggest shows like Stranger Things feel totally disposable to me. Like I forget what happened in them only days after I watch them. Nothing makes a huge impression. The last show on Netflix I didn’t feel that way about was Mindhunter, and that’s done. HBO Max’s content in general is much more up my alley.

They said that prior to Max, GOT kept Now/Go afloat. So yeah it doesn't need to be exclusive because HBO is still in the cable & streaming balancing act. My point was if you are going to try and get HBO Max exclusive content, I feel GOT will be off limits.

Outside of Cobra Kai, I haven’t watched anything on Netflix in forever. None of their shows interest me anymore. They just throw too much content out there without caring about quality.

Just Matrix, if they stay with this title. It's becoming a trend in Hollywood lately to have sequels with the same name as the first one (Suicide Squad, Halloween, Scream).
Damn. Was hoping that would be the name of the eventual Commando sequel when he comes out of retirement

Outlander is on Netflix and it’s a great show. Spent most of the summer lockdown watching it.

Started watching Warrior and I'm liking it already. Any news of a possible season 3?

Cinemax won't be making it as they've cancelled all original programming, so its only hope is that it does well enough on HBO Max for them to consider reviving it.

Yep that seems to be the consensus. So tell everyone you know to watch it, because I seriously NEED to know what happens next!

On the whole streaming wars thing, Amazon is my favorite at the moment and in my opinion by far and away the best of the lot.

The Expanse and The Boys are excellent and then they come up with stuff like Tales from the Loop, Too Old to Die Young and the upcoming The Underground Railroad (Berry Jenkins).

They will really come into their own with the LOTR show, its going to be massive. The second age is the perfect backdrop and the synopsis that released is pitch perfect. And then on top of it they have Wheel of Time series as well. These two should lift them to the top tier. Add the Boys spinoff, a potential Ringworld show and they are the ones to beat for me. They could have had Culture too but sadly it didn't pan out (I am still gutted, hopefully one day).

Netflix do have enough to keep me going. Bly Manor was terrific. And I am pretty excited about some of their upcoming slate especially with The Three Body Problem announcement.

HBO while they do have a great library and properties like DC, GoT, Dune and Harry Potter but so far they have been all over the place. Simply put they need that disney plus moment.

Yeah I'm going to binge Cobra Kai, Ozark, and, Black Mirror along with the MNU (Marvel Netflix Universe) before I go. The great thing about streaming is I can just pay for a month whenever a new season of a show comes out and cancel when I'm done.

Was that Paul Rudd show any good?

The one where he has a clone? It was fine. The episodes were short so it didn’t drag. If you’re a Paul Rudd fan, you’ll like it. The ending felt like a letdown.

Wow I almost completely forgot about that Paul Rudd show until now, but I actually do remember enjoying it quite a bit despite the underwhelming ending.

I would have down for a Season 2, but I really do hope Paul Rudd gets more shots to lead shows, because the guy deserves to be a much bigger star than he is and its sad to me the thing most people know him as is Ant-Man in the MCU.

It was left open ended I assume in case it was a big enough hit. But doesn’t sound like it was.

Welp, I found Promare on HBO Max. I am going to be rewatching that a ton. Studio Trigger distilled down to its base elements, so pure. I love it when Trigger gets "loose" with the animation.

Netflix feels lucky, for me. They keep releasing the random thing that I enjoy, and thus keep it around. Plus, it has a good selection of anime. Which I am kind of worried about what will happen with HBO Max with the Crunchyroll sale.

Looks like Nolan is jumping ship to Disney!

...okay not necessarily, more likely Paramount or Universal but wow if Nolan really does leave Warners than that is sure to be a huge loss for them.
