Film Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

General Film
At least for some of those movies you can rent for VOD it seems from what I looked up on Amazon.

But I’m already paying for Max. I should be able to watch Max originals with it

Still doesn’t make sense. I can’t imagine paying residuals on these movies are that much in the long term.

It's very funny since I was praising HBO Max a few days ago. I'm holding off to see if I'll unsubscribe...let's face it I won't as long as they have Succession and Barry. And they never released the complete series of Insecure on home media :cmad:

EDIT: Actually Insecure is only $10 a season on Amazon but for digital only. Might buy it.

I don’t really care about those particular movies and I understand stuff cycles in streaming. But it is about what this means. If you aren’t keeping your own films that you own free and clear, then why have HBO Max at all? It really seems like they are killing the service.

That's just it, they don't own them "free and clear". They don't want to pay residuals. It's a gross and disgusting practice, that really makes me want to cancel my HBO sub. Which I've had for 13 years.

Im expecting before the end of the year to here HBO Max is ending and will be rolled in the discovery app and call it a day.

What miserly bastards. If I said what I really feel about WB, I’d be banned.

That's like when someone keeps deleting 10-20 photos off their phone instead of the 50gbs of music, when their phone keeps warning them their storage is full.
Pictures come and go...but a bop is forever

It almost feels like the new management is taking the attitude "If we can't be number one, we don't even want to play". They would rather write off a vast amount of potential, and potential money, rather than "only" be number two or three in the streaming business.

Just to clear this up, HBO "Max" scripted are getting swindled... but HBO (regular) is technically ok overall - even though HBO stuff also streams on the HBO Max app.

Wouldn’t be surprised if all this downsizing is to pave the way for a sale to a bigger fish down the line. Like the safety of a telecom (which they had all that AT&T money to mess with for years and do not now), electronics company, mega retailer, or theme park company.

That's what I've gotten from this.

And if the rumors are true HBO content will be a tab under Discovery+
