Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

Keep Discovery away from the name! That reminds of bottom of the barrel reality TV and Zaslav. HBO makes me think quality. I liked the HBO Max name. "Max" alone is just dumb, but still nowhere near as dumb as Peacock. Maybe Disney + should be renamed "+" and CW renamed "C". :o

Well I watch a lot of Discovery ID crime shows so it's not bottom barrel to me. I rarely watch Discovery itself because yeah, not much into fishing boats or junk collectors.

The problem with the old name is that most people couldn't tell the difference between HBO and HBO Max shows and content. I don't know how many times I've read people online confusing the two without realising it or even acknowledging the fact that they are separate divisions. Just Max is too generic, though. I agree they should definitely have capitalised on the WB name.

I could see this in the future.

Still not sure about Max as the new name. Why not Discovery Max or Warner Bros. Plus?

It's two things that caused this according to The Town pod.

1. The family friendly target demo (basically the bible belt crowd) which Discovery has a grip on isn't too keen on subscribing to a service called "HBO Max" even though they're getting Discovery content because they don't find HBO appealing and to them, HBO only means nudity and ultra violence.

2. The guys who are running HBO want to return to the brand that made them and having "HBO Max" original content like Titans that doesn't really appear on their flagship HBO channel on cable/satellite was diluting their brand. Because nobody can tell the difference anymore between HBO Max Original and HBO Original.

Plugging them again but because I was listening to that pod, I knew the name change was happening like weeks ago because they had insider info and rumors that are usually true. But yeah I thought it was funny seeing people this week being shocked about this but it was something I kinda knew was happening.

Max clearly is. It has no relation to anything. Peacock might sound dumb, but it has some association to NBC. Max is a damn energy drink.

Except that the average person has no association between Peacock and NBC. I’m not saying that Max is any better, but if you ask anyone who doesn’t already have Peakcock, they wouldn’t be able to tell you it’s associated with NBC.

More people in 10 would know what Peacock is associated with then MAX. Especially if they saw the symbol.
