Any of you other Rangers fans go to the Texas Rangers Rally right by the Ballpark?
It was crazyyyy...A bunch of players showed up...Got there an hour early and got near the front

I still agree with Spidey. Who honestly gives a crap about the ratings for the games? I mean, should FOX executives care? Sure. Are any of us FOX executives? I kind of doubt it. Ratings are only interesting if you're talking about something that may or may not go off the air. Baseball is never going to go off the air, hence their ratings are irrelevant.
 
It tells us that people don't care about baseball as they once used to.

That's an important fact. The downward trend in ratings in baseball is not only a scary thing for FOX, but MLB and people who love going to games. More people are going to see a lackluster environment with tons of empty seats during the regular season.

It does not affect the fan directly, but it impacts the sport
 
Oh man that Rangers Victory Rally was crazy tonight..seeing most of the players like Oliver, Murphy, Elivs, Cruz, Young, Kinsler, and of course the MVP Josh Hamilton along with Wash, Nolan, Greenberg, and JD and hearing them talk about the season and the plans for the offseason was awesome..and what shocked me is you wouldve thought they had won the whole thing 10,000 strong there and it was LOUD the whole time..ahh sorry guys still got me amped up..

I was listening to the Josh Lewin show here in dallas today and he brought out a good point; that even though the World Series recieved one of the lowest ratings ( I think he said 8.9) one of the highest rated NBA Finals games is 4.9..now idk if thats true or not I havent researched it but if it is that just shows how strong baseball still is..

The Nielsen Co. said Thursday's game on ABC was the most-watched event during television's summer season since the first "Survivor" finale in 2000, with the exception of the Olympics. During the game's deciding moments in the fourth quarter, viewership peaked at 36.5 million – even though it was after 11:30 p.m. on the East Coast.

That's completely misconstruing it. Because people in New York had no interest in watching, that suddenly means people as a whole don't care? Those stadiums in San Francisco and Texas were still packed, and I'm sure the local ratings were very strong. There just aren't as many bandwagoners around the country as there are for the Yankees.

You can't ever expect consistent ratings because of how regional a sport it is. They will always be match up determined. And that will never matter, because we will all get to see the games and the World Series will still always sellout.

This is not only with the Mets but everywhere else. No one cares about local ratings. Everyone knows they will be high if your team is in the championship.

Even the Phillies vs. Yankees WS was not as high as the games were in the 90's and the first couple of years in the 2000's (This was the best matchup for the year too if you compare that Celtics vs. Lakers was the best matchup for the year in the NBA). Ratings have fallen and it is clear with the nationwide ratings.

Postseason the games will be sold out everywhere, but I'm just saying regular season the attendance levels have been really low nowadays. Sure the prices have something to do with it, but fans aren't as around as they were back 20-30 years ago.

NOTHING gets as high a ratings as they did in the 90s and especially not 20-30 years ago. That's the fractured nature of television. There are far more options nowadays. Back then, if your team wasn't in the series, your other options were Friends repeats.
 
George “Sparky” Anderson, one of the greatest ambassadors to the game of baseball, has been place in hospice care in his Thousand Oaks, CA, home.

The living legend is suffering from severe demetia–a disorder that affects mind function and results in symptoms similar to Alzheimer’s. However, dementia patients suffering from such severity can and will lose the ability to recognize languages, times and locations.

Anderson, who is 76, played his pro ball in the Dodgers and Phillies organizations–a great middle infielder who was never that much of a hitter. Perhaps his shortcomings at the plate encouraged him to study hitting like a science, because he went on to manage two franchises to championship success–first in Cincinnati, and then in Detroit.

Looking at Sparky Anderson, he’s everything that you imagine when you think “baseball manager.”

His time with the Cincinnati Reds came during the 1970s, leading the Reds to back to back seasons of 1975 and 1976. This was the era of the dominant Cinci squad known as “The Big Red Machine.” Anderson managed the squad from 1970-1978, when he was fired for finishing second in the division for two consecutive seasons.

He went on to manage the Detroit Tigers in the 1980s, leading them to World Series glory as well, in 1984. He retired in 1995, and became a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Yeah, I know, I’m writing this as if it’s an obituary, while Sparky is still with us–by no means is that my intention. Just want to give the man props, as he has always been one of my favorites. I wish his family the best during this tough time.

Yeah, I heard about a ring going up for sale. It belongs to one of their media guys who was fired like four years ago. If I had some extra cash lying around...

Anyway, my favorite player is the one who inspired my user name.

Tim Salmon...Good pick and played his whole career with one team.

As for the ring...It just sucks that the guys name is on the side (Fergoso), however I would so change that to my last name by going a local jeweler. lol

I was really surprised to find out how many people get rings...Media guys and I think even the back office people get them along with the dudes who drive the team bus.

My theory for why the 2010 World Series ratings were so low:
*Too much competition, whether it was from Sunday Night Football on NBC during Game 4 and Monday Night Football on ESPN during Game 5, college football during Game 3, or Dancing with the Stars on ABC.

*The Giants won all of their games relatively easily (via blow outs to put it in other words). I'm highly sure that if the games were more closely contested, viewers would've been mo re inclined to watch longer.

*FOX and to a lesser extent, ESPN arguably pays more attention during the regular season to East Coast teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Phillies. So naturally, when two Western Division teams (that aren't the Dodgers of course) are in the World Series, that lack of interest probably going to spill over to the coverage.

*The Cablevision dispute that only got settled prior to Game 3.

*Many fans simply don't like having to putting up with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver calling the games and would rather simply settle with the radio (assuming of course, that people don't sync the radio coverage with the TV volume down).
