Now, let's move on to what's really important shall we?
professor-hubert-farnsworth.jpg

Good news, everyone!

The offseason is here! I want discussions of every team, every day, every hour, every minute. I've been compiling a few questions to kick us off.

Will the Yankees crumble and not make the playoffs?

Will the Phillies get rid of Lidge?

Will my D-Backs pick up the option for Webb?

Will the Angels repeat their success?

Will the Pirates ever get to .500?

Will Spidey-Bat finally snap and go a killing spree in New York?

You make the call...

Gentlmen...

I think for the AL, there'll probably be the same 3 teams battling in the post-season: Yankees, Angels, and Red Sox. 4th team is a wild card, and anything goes. For the NL, Phillies will probably make yet another run, along with Cardinals. Mets might make it there, if the injury bugs don't bite again.

That is a wallpaper picture right there.

I expect the yankees to be involved in the end again...

My surprise team of 2010.........Kansas City.

i know, i surprised myself.

This worked last year in the 2009 Thread.

Go Yankees.

Maybe they'll win a few extra games with Akinori Iwamura. :o

The Decade of the 90s..For sure.

But NOT the past 10 years. :)

It's a trivial distinction - and yes we're including 2000, it's not part of the millenium but it is part of the 2000-2009 decade, it's just how that works out.

Here's the data - team wins for every season, playoffs spots, pennants and WS. Table is sorted by total regular season wins.

what do you think?

Hopefully The Phils upgrade the bullpen and bench this offseason.

I don't think there was a team of this decade. (I choose not to count # of wins, only championships) Only 2 teams have won multiple championships but even then a good portion of their lineups were considerably/totally different.

Hopefully The Phils upgrade the bullpen and bench this offseason.

That's really the biggest concern. I think the lineup is set. Except Ibanez may not even have the year he had this year.

Congrulations to the yankees and their fans.

I think this is a nice validation for Joe Girardi, I have always liked him and he got the shaft big time in Florida because he didn't want to be the owners lap dog

1. It would be one of the funniest things ever, but I don't see it happening.
2. Doubtful. No one else will want him and they're not gonna eat that money.
3. Didn't they already do that? If they haven't, probably.
4. They better.
5. Not next season they won't.
6. Bound to happen eventually.

3. Didn't they already do that? If they haven't, probably.

They have 4 days until his option is picked up otherwise he's a FA. Needless to say if AZ doesn't bring him back I will be extremely unhappy. Everything I've heard though is that they will, thank goodness.

If The Yanks lose to the Sox/Angels/Mets/Dodgers/Phillies, a big market team in the playoffs next year, especially in the late rounds, the fans will act as if 2009 never happened and the slump continues. That's the only thing I can hope for at this point, so I actually want them in the playoffs even though that is probably happening aynway.

what do you think?

It's not the Yankees. First, let me be picky. Team =/= Franchise. A team is a single season, a franchise is the team over multiple seasons.

For franchise of the decade, it's not the Yankees. It's the Red Sox. They won 2 World Series in 2004 and 2007. That's only a 4-year span versus the Yankee's 10-year span. Their comeback in 2004 is what wins it for them. No team in baseball had ever done what they did and no team probably ever will. People forget not only did they come back from a 3-0 deficit, they won 8 straight against two 100-win teams. They also came back from a 3-1 deficit in 2007 and went on to sweep the WS and almost came back in 2008.

As for team (that is single season) of the decade, it is the 2004 Red Sox because of what they did. In fact, not only are they the team of the decade, they are going to be a candidate for team of the century when it is all said and done.

I agree about Boston and all that..

let's talk contraction, not sure if it would ever happen, but if you could eliminate anything between 2 or 4 MLB teams, which teams would they be?
