Official Black Actor Appreciation Thread

I still say Glover did his part in predator 2. It was really the director who was overall amateurish.

I was refreshed to see someone new instead of Arnold again. Denzel couldve fit that role too.

Predator 2 is one of the best movies ever made. Glover was awesome in it. It was an awesome movie.
I know it sounds lame, but I really think people who hate P2 only really hate it because they saw Predator first and wanted more of the same, because I'm a movie-snob, I never saw Predator, but we went to see Predator TWO, and when it came to the dollar theater, we ended up going 3 times a week and I have almost every line memorized.

My favorite black actors are Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Laurence Fishburne, Morgan Freeman, and Chris Tucker (S***, he's funny as motherf*****).

My favorites are:
Mos Def
Sanna Lathan
Samuel L. Jackson
Whoopi Goldberg
Taye Diggs
Angela Basset
Wesley Snipes
Anthony Mackie
Kerry Washington
Denzel Washington
Will Smith
Joie Lee
I have Way too many to name.

You guys are so tied to the last 20 years.:down
What about Godfrey Cambridge and Scatman Crothers?
And Paul Robeson will sink you!

Also, where is the "White Actors With Moustaches Appreciation Thread"?

I'm watching the previews for "Jackie Brown", and I'm startimng to get interested in Pam Grier, the lead actress.

The other movie I've seen with her is "Escape from L.A.", and that was a real stain to her career.

Can you recommend any movies with her?

Also, what do you think of her perfomance in "Jackie Brown"?

I'm gonna have to go with Ben Stiller on this one.

I watched 'Baadasssss!' (How to get the Man's foot outta your ass). Its Mario Van Peeblesa film about his dad (Melvin) and the making of his iconic independant film "Sweet Sweetbacks baadasssss song".

Mario is great in the film and I was pretty shocked at how much I enjoyed it overall.

The blaek is the better actor.

Theres somethign about that film that doesnt scream complete failure to me. Stephen Hopkins just was a bit amateurish at parts but otherwise i found it a cool sequel to Predator 1. I think all they needed was Mctiernan to tweak things in shape and it wouldve been up to par with 1. Many people dont know the same writers did 1 and 2.

The cast was fine.

Sidney Poiter, 'Nuff said...

Predator 2 was a case of the writers getting the script they wanted made. Even Shane Black couldn't get that to happen for Lethal Weapon 2. If you watch Predator and listen to McTiernan's commentary, he sheds some light on what he would have done for a sequel. However, The Thomas Brothers got the film they wanted (other than it being set in New York,) and although some of it was pretty bad and some of it pretty good, it's slowly growing a cult following considering some of the cast involved and the Predator itself...

There was sprinkes of bad dialogue imo.. and at times this Hopkins guy didnt even bother directing Glover correctly imo. Choreography problems like the predator acting too sluggish to get hit. If you saw Predator 1 there is a much more fine tuned presentation than presented with P2.. P2 felt more.. raw and in needing of 1 last polish.

You compare it to AVP and its a decent effort. Thats how low it can get ;) In light of this i feel it deserves supporters.

That movie came out like 10 years ago I don't remember too much of it either... She was really big in the 70's. She's in Roots too and she's on the L Word.

Sidney Portier(sp) He's a great actor. He was really good in Sounder and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Sidney Poitier and Denzel. Simply the best.

Seriously though, Jeffrey Wright is a great and unsung actor that just happens to be a black man.

I love Escape From L.A. and Pam Grier should be proud that she was in it.
