Blade Official Blade General Discussion and Speculation Thread!

At the very least, there won't be a Blade Mcu movie that would flop at the box office and also get middling reviews in the year of 2025 or 2026.

They can always revisit Blade at some time. Maybe late 2020s to early 2030s, when it might be a better time to reboot the character in the movies. Its a good thing, Blade only had a voice cameo in Eternals, so they could easily recast the character.

I have a bad feeling they’re so frustrated at this point that they may just hire someone like Tim Story to just get it done without any fuss.

They already grabbed an in house writer for the script.

Throwing another director under the bus. I see. First DeCosta, now him.

The director having a clash with the lead actor is weird, especially when they haven't filmed anything.... like why?

I always thought the issue with this movie is Marvel Studios is simply multitasking in a lot of projects and this was in the lower part of the totem pole.

Ali has a bigger role in this just being an actor. Its been reported he's been part of the development process in some capacity. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a producer credit on it as well...well if he doesn't walk away anyway lol.

Marvel Studios is too all over the place now and working so many projects. But they also hired him before they hired someone to write/direct iirc. Which imo, isn't a really good idea to begin with.

If we ever do get a Blade film in the MCU, I would put good money on Ali not being in the lead role. Considering this is something that he wanted and not necessarily Marvel Studios, he could walk at any time and Marvel Studios would probably just put the film on ice.

Or, again, just bring Blade in via Midnight Sons. For Ali's only 'time' as Blade to be a voice cameo in Eternals is sad.

I don't even see the need for Midnight Sons, with so many ips vying for a film slot.

Ordinarily there'd probably be no need for Midnight Sons, sure, but the MCU already has several potential members out there and introduced with Moon Knight, the Werewolf, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone (basically a chunk of folks introduced in the Werewolf By Night special), and Doctor Strange, to name a few. If we're not going to get a 616 Illuminati (merely speculating- I have no reason to think there will or won't be), may as well have Strange as part of the Midnight Sons. Or Wong.

The lawyer publically saying that doesn't bode well for Blade happening with Ali.

Well Moon Knight, Werewolf, Elsa and Man-Thing were introduced in the MCU, before things backfired for Marvel Studios and Disney. They were also teasing Young Avengers in several projects and even announced Armor Wars as a movie.

we don't know how many of these ideas/projects have been canceled or put in the backburner or if they still need more time to reaccess these characters they've launched in phase 4/5. But I'd rather see a Doctor Strange 3 that doesn't feature any of those characters you've mentioned, than have DS3 absorbed Midnight Sons because Midnight Sons movie (with Elsa, man Thing, Blade, Werewolf) is no longer viable for a feature film or a Disney+ series.

Wasnt it even him who approached Disney in the first place with the Movie?
Its one of those things where i guess too many people have their fingers in this and are hellbent on their ideas to get done.
And then things can get bad.

I assume this will end one way or the other by the end of the year.
It reaches what? 7 years...this is getting laughable.

For the love of God, how do you not get Blade up from the ground?
Make a John Wick movie with Vampires...didnt the director even offer that he would love to do it?
How do you fumble this so much?
Like, at this point its getting laughable dumb how they cant get this ready to shoot.
Did he? Sounds like the biggest no brainer ever otherwise.

It's brief, but on Josh Horowitz's podcast, Stahelski said he would "take a swing at Blade." Feels more like a hypothetical and that he didn't actually get to pitch it, but I think it was just him spitballing, even talking about bringing back Snipes.

Thanks for finding that for me! One can dream lol. Can only imagine the excitement if this happened.

Wow that Variety article is so informative and gives a great insight how troubled the development for this film is.

Canceling the movie, that they already spent millions during development sounds like a bad idea. But this movie is really going nowhere. Its gonna be 5 years next month since the lead role was announced and they should probably just let this go for the time being. I don't think this is going to progress significantly in 2025 and miraculously started filming. Next year, Marvel Studios would be busy ramping production for Avengers 5, Avengers 6 and Spider-Man 4 (to name few of their biggest upcoming projects). I can also see X-Men taking Marvel's attention from Blade even further.

They could always comeback to this sometime in the late 2020s and early 2030s, especially if they need to introduce a new face in the franchise. But as of this moment, MCU doesn't need Blade and Blade isn't getting the best treatment or else, they would have already filmed and released this.

Ali is gonna walk. It's insane how long this is taking.

Isn't he already 50? If they want to establish a new Blade for several films, how will they even work? Granted, he looks great! But still.

Perfect time to get Constantine and Static Shock out, Gunn. :o

They put the cart before the horse with this one.

It should always start with a proper vision/story... not ''Wouldn't it be cool if this actor played this character?''

In slight fairness to Marvel, they were already developing Blade before Ali approached them. Marvel Studios had intially tried developing it as a film. Then some time later (not sure if it was before/after the Studios split from Marvel Entertainment) Ike gave Marvel Tevelsion dibs on the character. Lorraine Cink, creative director for Marvel, accidently tweeted about the show back in 2017 then deleted it.

Then when with all the the Netflix cancellations and reports of the imepending doom of Marvel Television, at some point Marvel Studios tried reignite their development to do Blade as a movie again. The Variety article and Ali himself even acknowledge this on a podcast a few years back.
Marvel Was Discussing a Blade TV Series Before Mahershala Ali Signed on

Now it can definitely be argued that Marvel probably wasn't as far development wise as they would have liked to have been by the time Ali contacted them. And given the timeline of events, they probably weren't. Most of what they had developed was probably years old stuff from prior to Marvel Television taking control of Blade. Ultimately this stuff is moot and doesn't make too much of difference all these years later. But just wanted to point some of this out, since most people seem to forget this.
