Comics Official Fans of Reilly Thread - Part 1

Unfortunately, Marvel would never give Ben the spotlight, but the thing is, it will be a long time (if at all) before they get the Spidey movie rights back from Sony.

This would actually be a good way for Marvel to show that they could do better with the character than Sony if it succeeds, and would give Marvel the grounds of possibly getting the character back in house for a future Avengers movie or something...

Wait, Sony doesn't already have the rights to Ben Reilly? That doesn't make any sense. I thought he would come with Spider-Man?

I don't know how the rights work, I just thought they had the Spider-Man/Peter Parker name...which could easily be worked around in a show called "Scarlet Spider: The Lost Years" if that is the case.

marvel have the tv rights to spiderman

ben reilly comes under sony's movie rights though

A Ben Reilly Lost Years TV show would work be one of the best things on TV, but it would get canceled really fast, just like The Lazarus Man, Nowhere Man, Night Man and a bunch of other shows that were too awesome for the general public.

id like an ongoing lost years comic!

but you guys are right the concept is so well suited to tv.... the 1st ep would be hardish to do, although could be told via monologue with flash backs i suppose. but yeah a super (spider) powered wanderer trying to find his place, with kaine being the overarching villain would be awesome

I wonder what a The Spectacular Spider-Man version of Ben Reilly might have been like?

My original idea was to have Ben reference back to being "the clone of a famous super hero" and not mention that it was Spider-Man, since I wasn't sure if Marvel had the ability to put live action Spidey on TV at the time.

Who knows, maybe Slott will see our convo here and tell the right people at Marvel they should make this happen...hey we all could hope, right?

I don't think Slott would do that - I mean he has the power to bring him back in the comic but hasnt

For my next prediction, Kraven the Hunter will kill either J. Jonah Jameson Sr or Carlie Cooper. Kraven is trying to goad Spider-Man into killing him, right? Who better to kill than someone close to Spider-Man? How he will know to pick one of those two I dont know but his resurrection is fairly pointless unless he tries to drive Spidey to murder. My money is on JJJ Sr, though. We all know that May's romances are doomed to failure and one of Peter's arch enemies has already killed his girlfriend. Marvel wont want to pull the same trick twice.

Anyone else want to see Ben Reilly return and redesign his Scarlet Spider costume?

is he still not back yet???

how can one of the best characters in the spiderman universe get so lil love

Oh man, killing JJJ Sr. would be awful. Having her lose two husbands to murder, both indirectly because of Peter, is just ridiculous. I'm as tired as most with the constant use of death to make stories some how more poignant, or memorable. I have no strong opinions on either JJJ Sr. or Carlie Cooper, but I'd rather see them just discarded to character limbo than murdered to "shake things up".

Agreed. Why is death the only way to make these characters memorable?

Don't forget Nathan Lubensky (or however the hell you spell his name). They weren't married, but they were engaged and Vulture killed him during a battle with Spidey.

how's the sonofbat, he must be an old cretin by now

He's good... he'll be 13 next month if you can believe it.... :wow: :wow: :wow:

He's buying his own comics now, even though he still likes to read some of mine... He's buying Hulk, Batman: TDK and Sonic the Hedgehog.

He has a new little brother who is 4 1/2 months old... he loves having a sibling to "brainwash into liking what he does"... his words... :woot:

:yay:

damn, time does fly, look like you and the hype did your jobs and instilled good hearty comics into his life.
