Comics Official Fans of Reilly Thread - Part 1

By the way, one thing I really liked from the '90s clone saga is its concept that 20 years in real time equals 5 years in comic book time (and so roughly 4 years, 48 to 52 issues, 1 year), that seemed and still seems like a good compromise in time passing but at a delayed rate rather than at real time.

Lol...
You must have missed where Amazing Spider-Man #s 121 to 141 occured over 2 years...

I have read Spider-Man ever since I was a little kid, it was the first comic series I ever picked up and, to this day, remains my favourite - even with all the unfortunate missteps of the series as of late.
I remember being very shocked when I first came across Ben as Spider-Man, but over time began to really enjoy the character. Mostly, it has to be said, thanks to his Scarlet Spider persona, which was just an amazing name and design for a superhero.

It's sad he was never fully accepted, but I think his character has been validated over the years by those of us who still remember him fondly.

Have any of you guys read the huge "Life of Reilly" retrospective about the Clone Saga? It's a really eye-opening analysis of what the writers were dealing with during Ben's (First? Technically second?) stint in the comics.

Where is this stated?

Another much better picture of the new costume. I really, really like it here.

Hey, welcome to the Hype!

Life of Reilly is one of the best looks inside the comics industry ever created, and examining one of the most tumultuous times in the Spidey office and at Marvel in general. Really cool read, highly recommend it to any comics fan--but Ben fans for sure.

Looks much better here, but I still don't care for the tacked-on hood very much. (I like the idea of the hood, but execution here is sorely lacking). Also would've liked to see external web-shooters.

I'm still upset that Life of Reilly never got published.

Very disappointing, that would be an automatic buy for me (and I'm sure a lot of others as well). Thankfully, we still have the online manuscripts hosted in a couple of places. :woot:

I believe I posted them here a few years ago...
I can't remember though...

My favorite place to read is the Ben Reilly tribute site. He incorporated some related images so it feels more immersive. Start here!

Just realized based on the last 2 issues of Clone Conspiracy that Ben low-key planned to replace Spider-Man once he was killed by all of the villain clones. There better by a Jackal consciousness rattling around in there or Slott has really missed the whole point of Ben.

just read the last issue this monring (UK) don't get your hopes up for this story being good

it's like Slott couldn't even be arsed and just used Ben as a generic because he knew the reveal would be good (even though a billion people saw it coming 27 miles off)

I hope PAD redeems him and gets him back to the Ben we know

I knew someone would finally bring him back and **** it

So... the implication is that

Ben and Doc Ock just disintegrated?

yeah I guess.... **** mini series, at least Ben is back and some non-hack writer can make him good to read again

in good news, the classic costume is back! http://www.newsarama.com/33185-scarlet-spider-going-back-to-classic-costume.html

The plan the whole time like they claim or a reaction to everyone pointing out how crap the last one was?

PAD wen't on about the smile design in an interview so seems strange to have a new costume for less than one issue... perhaps it's more than one issue and it's to show Ben becoming Ben again and getting rid of Slott's **** characterisation?

I think I'm getting my hopes up again

I wonder if they will give an in story reason for the costume change? Also will this Ben just be essentially Superior Spider-man 2? Like I've said before it looks like this Ben is going to be in the same grimdark anti-hero vein as Kaine was when he was the Scarlet Spider.

You're probably right, which sucks. What a waste of the character if so.

You gotta love the Internet. Wonder how much off the issue had to be redrawn with the original Scarlet Spider costume.

woops I misread it said by the end of the first arc not first issue AND it's a story line reason

Hopefully means PAD is taking an arc or to start to undo Slotts bastardization

I've not read Spider-Man in years and have zero interest in doing so, but dagnabit I just love Ben too much. Help me out. Do I need to read the Amazing Spider-Man issues of the Clone Conspiracy or does the Clone Conspiracy mini stand on its own?

The Clone Conspiracy mini stood pretty well on its own for me, that's all I bought. I did read the Amazing tie-in issue elsewhere that was the backstory for how Ben came back and if you're a real big Ben fan you'll probably want to read that one as well at least/or not, it's pretty baaaad.
